Book Guide to Monogenoidea of Freshwater Fish of Palaeartic and Amur Regions

Download or read book Guide to Monogenoidea of Freshwater Fish of Palaeartic and Amur Regions written by P. Galli and published by Ledizioni. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first key to parasites of freshwater fish of the USSR was published in Russian in 1962 and was translated into English in 1964. It was a one volume book that included keys for all parasite groups to the species level. Its translation is only one available internationally to present day. The second edition, also in Russian, was published between 1984 and 1987 and consists of three volumes (editor-in-chief O.N. Bauer). The second volume deals mostly with monogenenans (editor A.V. Gussev) and includes 24 keys and 16 supplements. In this volume, the Dac-tylogyridae (s.s. & sensu Bychowsky et Nagibina, 1978) includes seven genera, and two separate keys can be used to identify over 200 nominal Dactylogyrus species.

Book Microbial Zoonoses and Sapronoses

Download or read book Microbial Zoonoses and Sapronoses written by Zdenek Hubálek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-25 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state of art in the field of microbial zoonoses and sapronoses. It could be used as a textbook or manual in microbiology and medical zoology for students of human and veterinary medicine, including Ph.D. students, and for biomedicine scientists and medical practitioners and specialists as well. Surprisingly, severe zoonoses and sapronoses still appear that are either entirely new (e.g., SARS), newly recognized (Lyme borreliosis), resurging (West Nile fever in Europe), increasing in incidence (campylobacterosis), spatially expanding (West Nile fever in the Americas), with a changing range of hosts and/or vectors, with changing clinical manifestations or acquiring antibiotic resistance. The collective term for those diseases is (re)emerging infections, and most of them represent zoonoses and sapronoses (the rest are anthroponoses). The number of known zoonotic and sapronotic pathogens of humans is continually growing − over 800 today. In the introductory part, short characteristics are given of infectious and epidemic process, including the role of environmental factors, possibilities of their epidemiological surveillance, and control. Much emphasis is laid on ecological aspects of these diseases (haematophagous vectors and their life history; vertebrate hosts of zoonoses; habitats of the agents and their geographic distribution; natural focality of diseases). Particular zoonoses and sapronoses are then characterized in the following brief paragraphs: source of human infection; animal disease; transmission mode; human disease; epidemiology; diagnostics; therapy; geographic distribution.

Book Parasites of North American Freshwater Fishes

Download or read book Parasites of North American Freshwater Fishes written by Glenn L. Hoffman and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thoroughly revised and updated edition of a classic reference work is the definitive guide to the identification of the parasites of freshwater fishes of North America. The book provides information on public health concerns about fish parasites, the methods used to examine fish for parasites, and those parasites found only in very selective organs or tissues. It lists the known species of each genus, along with reference citations that enable readers to find literature pertinent to species identification, life cycles, and in some cases, control.

Book Invasive Alien Species

Download or read book Invasive Alien Species written by Thammineni Pullaiah and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 1488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES Invasive Alien Species: Observations and Issues from Around the World Volume 1: Issues and Invasions in Africa Invasive alien species are spreading into new ecosystems each year. The impacts caused by these invaders can be swift and devastating. The topic of invasive alien species is large, complex, and globally significant at various scales, exacerbated by the globalization of world economies and increased trade and commerce that has overcome natural barriers to species movement. Invasive alien species threaten global food supplies, water quality and availability, and energy production and delivery. With the added risks associated with global climate change, the global homogenization of plants, animals, and microbes is a major factor in the decline in ecosystem health and ecosystem services worldwide. To counter this trend, there is a critical need to unify governments, cultures, and programs to improve cross-boundary coordination to effectively address the wide range of invasive alien species threats to the environment, economies, and to plant and animal health; particularly human health. This 4-volume work is the first to compile a set of useful material for key topics, to provide a better understanding of the overall global threat of invasive alien species and the diverse array of problems faced around the world, and assemble material that includes potential replicable solutions to overcome these threats. The books also highlight the threat posed by invasive alien species in terms of a global ‘call to action’. Since invasive species know no boundaries, it is our hope that by compiling material from different scientific and social perspectives around the world, and sharing knowledge and examples of a diverse array of associated topics, we can advance global awareness and improve unified national responses to the threat posed by invasive alien species.

The book serves as a record of the progress of concerted research in marine pathobiology and also as a useful reference tool. The compendium consists of contributions that are reflective of the subdisciplines of the biological sciences that are of immediate concern to investigators interested in pathology in marine aquaculture. Topics discussed include viruses, bacterioses, mycoses, protozoan diseases, metazoan parasitic diseases, toxicological syndromes, teratological and neoplastic diseases, epidemiology/epizootiology, nutritional pathology, and immunology. Book Small Water Bodies of the Western Balkans

Download or read book Small Water Bodies of the Western Balkans written by Vladimir Pešić and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The small water bodies such as headwater streams, springs, ditches, small lakes, and ponds are critical to maintaining freshwater biodiversity. This is especially true for Dinaric karst, where they are often the only water bodies present. However, despite their importance, they remain widely overlooked and excluded from government policies like the EU Water Framework Directive. This book includes information on different aspects of these essential but still neglected habitats. This book intends to be of interest to a wide range of audiences, from researchers and conservationists to the public and decision-makers.
