Book The Suffering of Chasing Dreams

Download or read book The Suffering of Chasing Dreams written by Danny Duran and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you really and truly want God in your life, you owe it to yourself to read this book. This story is about a young boy who suffered and still suffering chasing dreams and facing a lot of suffering along the way, and how he achieved most of his dreams. After fifty-five years of his life, he came to find Jesus Christ even though he came from an extremely dysfunctional family, feeling rejected, not loved, was sexually, physically, and verbally abused. He faced the nasty words from his father, "You are way too stupid and black and ugly. You'll never amount to anything!" Those nasty words from his father were the words that motivated young Danny to execute his dreams. At the tender age of ten, Danny was put into the juvenile hall for incorrigible boys. But after three long years, he was released and became a matador (bullfighter) in Tijuana, Mexico; prizefighter, Rodeo Brahma bull rider and bareback bronco rider; professional roller skating derby skater for thirty-two years, a professional Texas bounty hunter; a repo man; a successful entrepreneur, was in a few motion pictures and Hispanic soap opera called Padres con Poder; and an author. Danny also spent five years in prison, and that's how he found our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his ordained minister wife Dharma. She came to the prison to minister to seven hundred inmates, and that's how Danny met her. Danny's partner, Jane P. Peterson, was killed in an arrest attempt. His son was shot, and his house was bombed. Danny had been shot and stabbed multiple times and was left in a coma for seven days in an attempted arrest as a bounty hunter. And while he was in a coma, Danny had his second Christian spiritual experience with God. The first spiritual encounter was in the juvenile hall. The story you are about to read may seem like fiction or something out of a movie script. If you enjoyed the books Divine Revelations of Hell, by Mary K. Baxter, or Proof of Heaven, by Dr. Eden Alexander, or the movies Forrest Gump or Walking Tall, then you'll love reading this book. Ninety-five percent of what you will read in this book is true. All of the names have been changed to protect the innocent. God bless.

Book Deer Hunting with Jesus

Download or read book Deer Hunting with Jesus written by Joe Bageant and published by Crown. This book was released on 2008-06-24 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years before Hillbilly Elegy and White Trash, a raucous, truth-telling look at the white working poor -- and why they have learned to hate liberalism. What it adds up to, he asserts, is an unacknowledged class war. By turns tender, incendiary, and seriously funny, this book is a call to arms for fellow progressives with little real understanding of "the great beery, NASCAR-loving, church-going, gun-owning America that has never set foot in a Starbucks." Deer Hunting with Jesus is Joe Bageant’s report on what he learned when he moved back to his hometown of Winchester, Virginia. Like countless American small towns, it is fast becoming the bedrock of a permanent underclass. Two in five of the people in his old neighborhood do not have high school diplomas or health care. Alcohol, overeating, and Jesus are the preferred avenues of escape. He writes of: • His childhood friends who work at factory jobs that are constantly on the verge of being outsourced • The mortgage and credit card rackets that saddle the working poor with debt • The ubiquitous gun culture—and why the left doesn’ t get it • Scots Irish culture and how it played out in the young life of Lynddie England

Book Hunter S Thompson

Download or read book Hunter S Thompson written by Kevin T. McEneaney and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-06-09 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade after Hunter S. Thompson’s death, his books—including Hell’s Angels, The Curse of Lono, The Great Shark Hunt, and Rum Diary—continue to sell thousands of copies each year, and previously unpublished manuscripts of his still surface for publication. While Thompson never claimed to be a great writer, he did invent a new literary style—“gonzo”—that has been widely influential on both literature and journalism. Though Thompson and his work engendered a significant—even rabid—following, relatively little analysis has been published about his writing. In Hunter S. Thompson: Fear, Loathing, and the Birth of Gonzo, Kevin T. McEneaney examines the intellectual background of this American original, providing biographical details and placing Thompson within a larger social and historical context. A significant portion of this book is devoted to the creation, reception, and legacy of his most important works, particularly Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In addition to discussing influences on Thompson's work—including Homer, Nietzsche, Spengler, Melville, Twain, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Kerouac, and others—as well as the writers Thompson influenced, McEneaney also explains the literary origins of gonzo. With new biographical information about Thompson and an examination of his writing techniques, this book provides readers with a better understanding of the journalist and novelist. A look beyond the larger-than-life public persona, Hunter S. Thompson: Fear, Loathing, and the Birth of Gonzo will be of great interest to fans of Thompson’s work as well as to those wanting to know more about gonzo journalism and literature.

Book Momentum

  • Publisher : Out Your Backdoor
  • Release : 2002-01-01
  • ISBN : 9781892590565
  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Momentum written by Peter Vordenberg and published by Out Your Backdoor. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Momentum: Chasing the Olympic Dream" is a memoir that people are calling the best-ever look into ski culture. Pete Vordenberg is already a favorite writer in the XC ski magazine scene. Here he pulls out all the stops and opens skiing to all of life in a way we haven't seen before. Vordenberg is a two-time Olympian, NCAA Champ, and a current US Team Coach on a team which has, not coincidently, become the winningest team we've seen in decades. "Momentum" is about spirit and camaraderie. If you're tired of sports ego-mania and doping scandals, the big little world of American XC ski racing offers a breath of cold, fresh air."Momentum" is a non-linear voyage traveling the world, crossing from childhood to the edge of adulthood. It shares the quixotic humor, excitement, and poignancy inherent in the pursuit of something as unlikely as an American gold medal in XC. Americans in XC ski racing have to make their stand with little support, and great, continuous effort, for a long time -- about 15 years before they can expect best results. How to endure for that long? Vordenberg shows us that you can't make it without your family, friends and coaches. In "Momentum" we see friendships like we know sports can show us, but we also feel what it's like to be hanging in the wind oceans away from home and help. Why dedicate your life to such slim chances for victory and even less for livelihood? Vordenberg says: "This is not a retelling of the little engine that could. Rather, it is about why the little engine even tried." Bob Woodward, veteran ski journalist, says "The marvel of Vordenberg's book is that it appeals to the non-skier as well as to ski racers past and present. Healthy doses of self-revelation, touches of *On The Road*, and remarkable insights make this a unique book. It's supposedly about skiing--but it's more about life and seizing it."

In letters to a Who's Who of luminaries from Norman Mailer to Charles Kuralt, Tom Wolfe to Lyndon Johnson, William Styron to Joan Baez--not to mention his mother, the NRA, and a chain of newspaper editors--Thompson vividly catches the tenor of the times in 1960s America and channels it all through his own razor-sharp perspective. Passionate in their admiration, merciless in their scorn, and never anything less than fascinating, the dispatches of The Proud Highway offer an unprecedented and penetrating gaze into the evolution of the most outrageous raconteur/provocateur ever to assault a typewriter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What I feel has no name... Suanne Laqueur's award-winning debut novel The Man I Love thrilled readers with its memorable characters and depth of emotion. Erik Fiskare's journey of love, recovery and forgiveness captivated hearts but also left questions unanswered. Now Daisy Bianco has a chance to tell her story. It's been three years since a single lapse of judgment cost Daisy the love of her life. Erik was a conduit to her soul but now he's chosen a path of total disconnection, refusing to speak to her or acknowledge her betrayal. Alone and shattered, Daisy attempts to take responsibility for her actions while building her career as a professional dancer in New York City. But Erik's unforgiving estrangement proves too much for her strength. Plagued by flashbacks to the Lancaster shootings, she falls into a dangerous spiral of self-harm, cutting into her own skin as a means to atone. Only the timely appearance of an old friend, John "Opie" Quillis, saves her from self-destruction and gives her a chance to love again. Laqueur skillfully weaves flashbacks to the college years with Daisy's present life. Supported by John's patient affection, she works to separate her evolution as an adult from the unresolved guilt and grief of her youth. As her professional accomplishments lift her out of depression, Daisy learns to hold onto her accountability without letting it become her identity. Years pass and she builds a beautiful life filled with dance and friends. Lovers come and eventually go, leaving her on her own with the old thought: Come back to me. In this parallel narrative, Laqueur peels open the beloved characters from The Man I Love to reveal new and complex layers of vulnerability. The scars from the shooting are deep and pervasive within this circle of friends. Like Daisy, they are trying to evolve without being fully resolved. But when questions from the past go unheeded, you alone must find and give your answers true.
