Book First Transgenic Geminivirus resistant Plant in the Field

Download or read book First Transgenic Geminivirus resistant Plant in the Field written by FRANCISCO JOSE LIMA ARAGAO Aragão and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bean golden mosaic virus (BGMV) belongs to the genus Begomovirus, whose genome is composed of two single-stranded DNA molecules, designated DNA-A and DNA-B, both of which are essential for infectivity. BGMV is transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) in a persistent, circulative manner, causing golden mosaic in common bean. This disease is characterized by yellow-green mosaic of leaves, stunted growth and distorted pods, which may vary among genotypes.

  • Author : R. Vinoth Kumar
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2019-07-12
  • ISBN : 3030182487
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Geminiviruses written by R. Vinoth Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides in-depth information on all key aspects of geminivirus biology, e.g. the genetics and evolution, global diversity and spread of these plant pathogens, as well as the molecular mechanisms underlying their virulence. Geminiviridae is one of the largest viral families, comprising numerous plant-infecting viruses that cause diseases in crops and weeds. These diseases have been reported from nearly all continents, in particular Asia, Europe, Africa and America. The book summarizes the current state of knowledge on the interactions between plant host and virus. In addition, it discusses advances regarding the trans-replication of satellite molecules and its effect on geminiviral pathogenesis, as well as pest management strategies to combat these diseases in the field. Given its scope, the book is a must-read reference guide for all researchers and advanced students working in virology, agriculture and plant biotechnology..

Book TT Viruses

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ethel-Michele de Villiers
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-11-27
  • ISBN : 354070972X
  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book TT Viruses written by Ethel-Michele de Villiers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-27 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eleven years ago the circular DNA of a novel single-stranded virus has been cloned and partially characterized by Nishizawa and Okamoto and their colleagues. According to the initials of the patient from whom the isolate originated, the virus was named TT virus. This name has been subsequently changed by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) into Torque teno virus, permitting the further use of the abbreviation TTV. Although initially suspected to play a role in non A –E hepatitis, subsequent studies failed to support this notion. Within a remarkably short period of time it became clear that TT viruses are widely spread globally, infect a large proportion of all human populations studied thus far and represent an extremely heterogeneous group of viruses, now labelled as Anelloviruses. TT virus-like infections have also been noted in various animal species. The classification of this virus group turns out to be difficult, their DNA contains between 2200 and 3800 nucleotides, related so-called TT-mini-viruses and a substantial proportion of intragenomic recombinants further complicate attempts to combine these viruses into a unifying phylogenetic concept.

  • ISBN : 1461560535
  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book Plant microbe Interactions 2 written by Gary Stacey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant-Microbe Interactions, Volume 2 Volume 1 of this series has made its appearance and dealt forcefully with impor tant current topics in the field of plant-microbe interactions. We believe that the quality of those chapters was high and should serve as a focal point for the state of the art as well as an enduring reference. Volume 2 builds upon these accom plishments. Chapter 1 discusses the fascinating lipo-chitin signal molecules from Rhizo bium, aspects regarding their biosynthesis, and the basis for host specificity. These molecules are a cardinal example of how microorganisms influence plant development and stimulate speculation that they have identified a previously un known aspect of plant hormone activity. Chapter 2 continues the discussion of Rhizobium by considering the trafficking of carbon and nitrogen in nodules. Al though the ostensible advantage of nodules to plants is the fixation of atmos pheric nitrogen, the actual process involved in supplying reduced nitrogen to the plant host is complex.
