Download or read book Deformation and Exhumation at Convergent Margins written by Uwe Ring and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Franciscan subduction complex formed a long-lived accretionary wedge of Late Jurassic through Oligocene age that fringed the western edge of the North American Cordillera. This volume summarizes absolute finite-strain data from the Franciscan subduction complex and brittle strain data from important faults in and above this complex. Because the Franciscan is generally considered a prototypical sediment-rich subduction complex, its tectonic evolution is important for understanding convergent plate margins, and the results outlined in this volume may have broad implications for other subduction-zone settings."--pub. desc.
Download or read book Deformation Mechanisms Rheology and Tectonics written by Siese de Meer and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2002 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motion and deformation of rocks are processes of fundamental importance in shaping the Earth, from outer crustal layers to the deep mantle. Reconstructions of the evolution of the Earth therefore require detailed knowledge of the geometry of deformation structures and their relative timing, of the motions leading to deformation structures and of the mechanisms governing these motions. This volume contains a collection of 22 papers on field, experimental and theoretical studies that add to our knowledge of these processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thematic set of 32 papers in this Special Publication celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1907 Memoir on The Geological Structure of the North-West Highlands of Scotland by placing the original findings in both historical and modern contexts, and juxtaposing them against present-day studies of deformation processes operating not only in the NW Highlands, but also in other mountain belts.

Download or read book Tectono metamorphic evolution of the continental units along the edge between Alpine and Hercynian Corsica written by Maria Di Rosa and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work the central area of Corsica island was studied in order to reconstruct the tectono-metamorphic history of the continental and oceanic high pressure units that occupy the structurally deeper levels of the tectonic stacking of Alpine Corsica and their stratigraphic and structural relationship with the European margin (Hercynian Corsica). The study includes the geological mapping, the mesoscale and microscale structural analysis, the acquisition of chemical analyzes and micromaps with the microprobe, thermobarometric estimation through specific methodologies for metapelites, U-Th-Pb dating of zircons and allanites. The results obtained allows to reconstruct the geodynamic model of this sector of the Alpine belt from the Permian to the Burdigalian.

Download or read book High strain Zones written by Geological Society of London and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2005 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of research and review papers addresses the question of structural evolution during deformation to high strains and the physical properties of rocks that have been affected by high-strain zones. The discussions range from natural examples at outcrop to microscopic studies. They include experiments and numerical models based on the active processes in high-strain zones as well as studies on the physical properties of highly strained rocks in the field and laboratory. Specific questions addressed include magnetotelluric imaging of faults, magnetic fabrics, fabric development, seismic properties of highly strained rocks, change of rheology with strain, influence of melt on the localization of deformation, the relationship between deformation and metamorphism as well as new methods in the analysis of deformation. The book is aimed at an interdisciplinary group of readers interested in the effects of high strain in rocks.

Download or read book Analogue and Numerical Modelling of Crustal scale Processes written by Susanne Janita Henriët Buiter and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2006 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crust of the Earth records the deformational processes of the inner Earth and the influence of the overlying atmosphere. The state of the Earth's crust at any time is therefore the result of internal and external processes, which occur on different time and spatial scales. In recent years important steps forward in the understanding of such complex processes have been made by integrating theory and observations with experimental and computer models. This volume presents state-of-the-art analogue and numerical models of processes that alter the Earth's crust. It shows the application of models in a broad range of geological problems with careful documentation of the modelling approach used. This volume contains contributions on analogue and numerical sandbox models, models of orogenic processes, models of sedimentary basins, models of surface processes and deformation, and models of faults and fluid flow.
