Department of Public Instruction and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wisconsin's Quality Educator Initiative, Chapter PI 34 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code, is designed to build teacher training programs and ongoing professional development opportunities that are competency-based and consistent with the state teacher standards. The new system asks students in teacher training programs to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions for teaching, pupil services, and administration. Initial licenses are issued only to prospective educators who perform successfully, as measured by the standards. This document addresses the implications PI 34 will have on the early childhood education and care workforce. The document also defines specific strategies to achieve priorities identified for individual early childhood programs. The first sections of the report provides the vision and an overview of PI34 and its implications for the workforce. Then the report identifies priorities and general strategies for implementing PI34 within each segment of the early childhood work force and, for each segment, in various early childhood settings. Each section of the report can be used with the main report or as a stand-alone piece to address concerns in each of the following early childhood programs: (1) school district teachers in community settings; (2) special educators in DHFS Birth to 3 programs; (3) licensed teachers in Head Start; and (4) licensed teachers in child care. The Appendixes define the approaches to professional development in the early childhood work force. The Appendixes also include a question-and-answer section.

Book Mentoring in Education

Download or read book Mentoring in Education written by Cedric Cullingford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mentoring has become a hot topic in a number of professional spheres in recent years, but its most important and longest-established location is in education. However, this volume is the first wide-ranging academic critique of the concept and its application. Offering both a critical and a practical stance, the authors examine the historical and cultural aspects of mentoring and the motivations behind it. They also explore the effects on the individuals involved and on the system, and examine the different approaches to the idea and implementation of mentoring. Drawing contributions from Europe, the USA and the Middle East, this work considers a wide range of empirical studies of mentoring from those countries that have invested in it, including case studies and analyses of current practice. The book makes a major contribution, not only on account of the international perspective it provides but also through analysis of cases in order to establish the difference between the much-vaunted theoretical advantages promoted by policy makers and the everyday realities and complexities that arise in a scheme entirely dependent on personal relationships.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Dickens and America’ has been amply studied, his no less important relationship to Italy much less so, despite his friend Forster's assertion that his long stay in Genoa represented ‘the turning-point of his career.’ This book, arising from a major conference held in Genoa in 2007, attempts to redress the balance, focusing primarily on Dickens's two major writings about Italy—the travel book Pictures from Italy of 1845, and Part Two of his great novel Little Dorrit of 1855–7. It falls into six sections: the first concerns Dickens's enjoyment of leisure for the first time in his life in Italy; the second, his response to the visual attractions of Italy, both natural and artistic; the third, his political stance about Italy in the period of the Risorgimento; the fourth, his preoccupation with death and decay in what he saw and experienced in Italy; the fifth, his representation of ‘Italianness’ in Little Dorrit and elsewhere; and the sixth, his relation to modern and contemporary writers about Italy. It thus aims to fill a vital gap in Dickens studies.
