Download or read book Evaluating Skeletal Maturation written by Shally Mahajan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers have agreed that skeletal maturity is closely related to the craniofacial growth, and bones of hand wrist and cervical vertebrae are very reliable parameters in assessing it. The complete hand wrist radiograph involves 30 bones and assessment of these stages is one elaborate task which needs time and experience and also involves increased radiation exposure therefore putting a question mark on ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle, since this is very important mainly for children and young adults who have proliferating cells in crucial organs e.g. thyroid gland, bone marrow and salivary gland. This book is a comparative study to assess the radiographic evaluation of stages of cervical vertebrae and hand wrist radiograph to determine whether cervical vertebrae an be used as a reliable biological marker.

Download or read book Hand Bone Age written by Vicente Gilsanz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, determination of bone maturity relied on visual evaluation of skeletal development in the hand and wrist, most commonly using the Greulich and Pyle atlas. The Gilsanz and Ratib digital atlas takes advantage of digital imaging and provides a more effective and objective approach to assessment of skeletal maturity. The atlas integrates the key morphological features of ossification in the bones of the hand and wrist and provides idealized, sex- and age-specific images of skeletal development New to this revised second edition is a description and user manual for Bone Age for iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch®, which can be purchased and used separately from this book. The App can be easily employed to calculate the deviation of the patient’s age from the normal range and to predict a possible growth delay. This easy-to-use atlas and the related App will be invaluable for radiologists, endocrinologists, and pediatricians and also relevant to forensic physicians.

Book Skeletal Maturation Assessment

Download or read book Skeletal Maturation Assessment written by Anna Morrison (DMD.) and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare and investigate the correlation existing between the hand-wrist and the cervical vertebral radiographic assessments of maturation among a middle class population sample from European descent. Methods: The sample consisted of 100 patients (63 females and 37 males) 9-13 years of age, from a private orthodontic practice. The hand-wrist radiographs were evaluated with the Skeletal Maturation Assessment method developed by Fishman. Cervical vertebral maturation was assessed by using the method developed by Lamparski and by Hassel and Farman. The Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to correlate cervical vertebral maturation and the skeletal maturation as determined by hand-wrist radiograph. Intra-operator relativity was evaluated by the intra-class correlation. The intra-operator reliability assessment was based on 5 cases, selected at random, which were re-evaluated by the same operator two subsequent times, at a minimum of ten day intervals. Results: The Spearmen correlation between CVM and SMI for the study population was .928 and this correlation was statistically significant (P

Book Comparative Evaluation of Cervical Vertebrae with Hand Wrist Radio Graphs

Download or read book Comparative Evaluation of Cervical Vertebrae with Hand Wrist Radio Graphs written by Manisha Kamal Kukreja and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an original work done by myself to evaluate the skeletal maturation in 10-12 year old children by comparing the cervical vertebrae with hand wrist radiographs. The main purpose for this study was that for growth evaluation an additional radiographic exposure is given to adolescents by taking a hand wrist radiograph but cervical vertebrae are seen in lateral cephalograms which is an essential diagnostic aid taken in all orthodontic patients so why to go for an additional radiographic exposure if we can evaluate growth using cervical vertebrae.

Book The Growing Spine

Download or read book The Growing Spine written by Behrooz A. Akbarnia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spinal disorders in very young children may be caused by a variety of conditions. The treatment of such conditions is often challenging due to the age of the patient and the progressive nature of the deformity. There also may be associated problems such as congenital anomalies, respiratory insufficiency, and neurological problems. Depending on the etiology of the deformity, these children are often cared for by multiple specialists including pediatricians, pediatric orthopaedists or orthopaedic spine surgeons, neurologists, pediatric surgeons, pediatric neurosurgeons, oncologists, and/or pulmonologists. Health professionals in all of the mentioned disciplines are involved in the management of these patients, which is why compiling a comprehensive textbook that is not limited to orthopedic specialists is essential. This textbook will effectively help to standardize the care of these patients. Furthermore, other professionals such as nurses, physical therapists and healthcare professionals in training are usually not familiar with these conditions and are in need of a reference book to consult when caring for children with spinal deformities.
