Book The Psychophysiology of Mental Imagery

Download or read book The Psychophysiology of Mental Imagery written by Robert G. Kunzendorf and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serving to bridge the gap between differing approaches to psychology, this new text provides some of the most compelling evidence yet for the subjective presence and objective efficacy of the mental image. In this day and age of "dissociation" between physiological psychologists and other psychologists, between cognitive scientist and mentalist, between researchers and practitioners, mental imagery and its psychophysiology pose some intellectually "sticky" problems - and some promising resolutions - that should bind together differing disciplines within psychology.

  • Author : Joseph B. Hellige
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 9780674005594
  • Pages : 418 pages

Download or read book Hemispheric Asymmetry written by Joseph B. Hellige and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is "right-brain" thought essentially creative, and "left-brain" strictly logical? Joseph B. Hellige argues that this view is far too simplistic. Surveying extensive data in the field of cognitive science, he disentangles scientific facts from popular assumptions about the brain's two hemispheres. In Hemispheric Asymmetry, Hellige explains that the "right brain" and "left brain" are actually components of a much larger cognitive system encompassing cortical and subcortical structures, all of which interact to produce unity of thought and action. He further explores questions of whether hemispheric asymmetry is unique to humans, and how it might have evolved. This book is a valuable overview of hemispheric asymmetry and its evolutionary precedents.

Book Internalizing and Externalizing Expressions of Dysfunction

Download or read book Internalizing and Externalizing Expressions of Dysfunction written by Dante Cicchetti and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributors to this volume apply a developmental focus to their examination of one of the most widely agreed upon classifications of behavior disorders in child psychopathology -- internalizing and externalizing expressions of dysfunction. The research reported spans a wide range from infancy through young adulthood and from normalcy through severe psychopathology. These current investigations demonstrate that the implications of utilizing the developmental approach for the evolution of theory, research, and intervention are vast.

Book Depression in Schizophrenics

Download or read book Depression in Schizophrenics written by Richard Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters of this volume were originally presented at a symposium on "Depression in Schizophrenics" held at the University of Calgary, Health Sciences Centre on July 06 and 07, 1988. It was the intent of the organizers to draw together leading international researchers to address, in a comprehensive fashion, the persisting problem of depression in schizophrenic individuals. As many of the authors point out, depression was clearly identified as a central problem in schizophrenia by the pioneers of psychiatry. Their wisdom and clinical acumen was lost for a time to be only recently re discovered. Their insights must now be integrated with modern taxonomic systems, evolving etiological models and methods of assessment. With increased recognition of the problem of depression in this population we must also examine appropriate methods of ameliorating the suffering of those afflicted. The conference was divided into sections (theoretical aspects, phenomenology, suicide and treatment) and the chairmen of these sections have given brief introductions. Necessary overlap of topics and methods provided a convergent and validating examination of empirical results which may serve to direct continuing studies. As well we hope that thoughtful review may directly influence clinical practice and thereby improve the quality of life for schizophrenic patients.

Book Brain Asymmetry

Download or read book Brain Asymmetry written by Richard J. Davidson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-three contributions in Brain Asymmetry provide a comprehensive survey of modern research on laterality and brain asymmetry, showcasing new approaches and novel domains in which knowledge of the asymmetrical functioning of the brain is a key issue for the complete understanding of the phenomenon. Of particular note is the inclusion of material on laterality, learning, attention, and emotion and their relation to subcortical and peripheral structures and processes. In addition, the clinical relevance of brain asymmetry for neuropsychological and psychopathological practice is surveyed.Following a preface and historical overview, chapters are divided into eight parts that cover: Phylogenetic Antecedents and Anatomical Bases; Perceptual, Cognitive, and Motor Lateralization; Attention and Learning; Central-Autonomic Integration; Emotional Lateralization; Interhemispheric Interaction; Ontogeny and Developmental Disabilities; and Psychopathology.Contributors : Marie T.
