Book Inclusive J psi Production Measurement in Pb Pb Collisions at Sqrt s NN

This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum Chromodynamics predicts that the hot and dense matter produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP), behaves as a deconfined state of quarks and gluons. Since 1980's it was predicted that quarkonia are suppressed due to screening effects in the QGP, making quarkonia a good tool to probe the plasma.ALICE is the only experiment at the LHC that was designed and built to characterize the physics of the QGP. The muon spectrometer, one of the detectors in ALICE, is used to measure the quarkonia production at forward rapidity. In this thesis the efficiency of the tracking chambers of the muon spectrometer is studied along one year of data taking. The results obtained from real data are compared to simulations in order to compute the systematic uncertainties associated to the tracking apparatus.A complete analysis of the inclusive J/psi --> mu^+ mu^- production in the 2011 Pb-Pb collisions is also presented. The study includes the signal extraction, normalization and acceptance times efficiency corrections. An important part is dedicated to the quantify the systematic uncertainties arising from different sources. The resulting R_{AA} and p_{T} are compared to previous experiments and also to theoretical models.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied the[ital J]/[psi] production in[ital p][ital[anti p]] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV with the D[null] detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, using a[mu][sup+][mu][sup -] data sample collected during the 1994-95 running period. We have measured the inclusive[ital J]/[psi] production cross section as a function of the[ital J]/[psi] transverse momentum, [ital P][sub T][sup[ital J]/[psi]] in the central and forward rapidity regions. The new measurement of the cross section[ital d[sigma]/dp][sub T][sup[ital J]/[psi]] for[vert-bar][eta][sup[ital J]/[psi]][vert-bar][lt] 0.6 is in a good agreement with the CDF and earlier D[null] results. The cross section measurement[ital d[sigma]/dp][sub T][sup[ital J]/[psi]] for 2.5[lt][vert-bar][eta][sup[ital J]/[psi]][vert-bar][lt] 3.7 covers the[ital p][sub T][sup[ital J]/[psi]] range from 1 to 16 GeV/c. We combine the measurements in several[vert-bar][eta][sup[ital J]/[psi]][vert-bar] regions to discuss[ital d[sigma]/d[eta]][sup[ital J]/[psi]] for[ital p][sub T][sup[ital J]/[psi]][gt] 8 GeV/c. The data are compared with the next-to- leading order (NLO) QCD calculations, which take into account different[ital J]/[psi] production mechanisms.

Book Centrality Rapidity And Transverse Momentum Dependence of Cold Nuclear Matter Effects on J Psi Production in D Au Cu Cu And Au Au Collisions at S NN 1 2

This book was released on 2011 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have carried out a wide study of Cold Nuclear Matter (CNM) effects on J/[Psi] = production in dAu, CuCu and AuAu collisions at √s{sub NN} = 200 GeV. We have studied the effects of three different gluon-shadowing parameterizations, using the usual simplified kinematics for which the momentum of the gluon recoiling against the J/[Psi] is neglected as well as an exact kinematics for a 2 → 2 process, namely g + g → J/[psi] + g as expected from LO pQCD. We have shown that the rapidity distribution of the nuclear modification factor R{sub dAu}, and particularly its anti-shadowing peak, is systematically shifted toward larger rapidities in the 2 → 2 kinematics, irrespective of which shadowing parameterization is used. In turn, we have noted differences in the effective final-state nuclear absorption needed to fit the PHENIX dAu data. Taking advantage of our implementation of a 2 → 2 kinematics, we have also computed the transverse momentum dependence of the nuclear modification factor, which cannot be predicted with the usual simplified kinematics. All the corresponding observables have been computed for CuCu and AuAu collisions and compared to the PHENIX and STAR data. Finally, we have extracted the effective nuclear absorption from the recent measurements of RCP in dAu collisions by the PHENIX collaboration.

Book Measurement of Prompt and Nonprompt J psi Production in Pp and PPb Collisions at Sqrt s NN

Download or read book Measurement of Prompt and Nonprompt J psi Production in Pp and PPb Collisions at Sqrt s NN written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports the measurement of J/psi meson production in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The data samples used in the analysis correspond to integrated luminosities of 28 inverse picobarns and 35 inverse nanobarns for pp and pPb collisions, respectively. Prompt and nonprompt J/psi mesons, the latter issuing from the decay of B mesons, are measured in their dimuon decay channels. Differential cross sections are measured in the transverse momentum range of 2

Book J psi Production at High Transverse Momenta in P p and Cu Cu Collisions at Sqrt SNN

Download or read book J psi Production at High Transverse Momenta in P p and Cu Cu Collisions at Sqrt SNN written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The STAR collaboration at RHIC presents measurements of J/[psi] → e+e− at mid-rapidity and high transverse momentum (p{sub T} > 5 GeV/c) in p+p and central Cu+Cu collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV. The inclusive J/[psi] production cross section for Cu+Cu collisions is found to be consistent at high p{sub T} with the binary collision-scaled cross section for p+p collisions, in contrast to previous measurements at lower p{sub T}, where a suppression of J/[psi] production is observed relative to the expectation from binary scaling. Azimuthal correlations of J/[psi] with charged hadrons in p+p collisions provide an estimate of the contribution of B-meson decays to J/[psi] production of 13% ± 5%.

Book Shadowing and Absorption Effects on J psi Production in DA Collisions

Download or read book Shadowing and Absorption Effects on J psi Production in DA Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors study medium modifications of J/[psi] production in cold nuclear media in deuterium-nucleus collisions. They discuss several parameterizations of the modifications of the parton densities in the nucleus, known as shadowing, an initial-state effect. They also include absorption of the produced J/[psi] by nucleons, a final-state effect. Both spatially homogeneous and inhomogeneous shadowing and absorption are considered. They use the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions as a centrality measure. Results are presented for d+Au collisions at √S{sub NN} = 200 GeV and for d+Pb collisions at √S{sub NN} = 6.2 TeV. To contrast the centrality dependence in pA and dA collisions, they also present pPb results at √S{sub NN} = 8.8 TeV.

This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative modification of the prompt psi(2S) and J/psi yields from pp to PbPb collisions, at the center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair, is presented. The analysis is based on pp and PbPb data samples collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2015, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 28.0 inverse picobarns and 464 inverse microbarns, respectively. The double ratio of measured yields of prompt charmonia reconstructed through their decays into muon pairs, (N[psi(2S)]/N[J/psi])[PbPb]/ (N[psi(2S)]/N[J/psi])[pp], is determined as a function of PbPb collision centrality and charmonium transverse momentum pt, in two kinematic intervals: abs(y)
