Book Cell Surface and Differentiation

Download or read book Cell Surface and Differentiation written by T. Muramatsu and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-06-30 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cell surface membranes contain a range of types of molecule of which proteins form a significant part, and which play important roles in regulating cellular activities, such as growth and differentiation. In recent years considerable advances have been made in the understanding of the structure and function of cell surface molecules, partly stimulated by the development of recombinant DNA technologies. This book provides a review of current knowledge of the molecular biology of the cell surface with particular emphasis on cell differentiation, relating the molecular properties of the cell surface to developmental biology. In addition to the central theme of cell differentiation, cell surface markers, which are useful in monitoring differentiation and cell adhesion molecules, which influence differentiation, are covered.

Book The Cell Surface

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1992
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 220 pages

Download or read book The Cell Surface written by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So much has been learned about the surface of cells that it can almost be counted as an organelle. The surface has been revealed as a complex assembly of proteins, highly mobile in time and space, with overlapping activities and shared structural motifs. The locations of their genes and the untangling of their functions are major challenges being tackled by laboratories worldwide. The 57th annual Cold Spring Harbor Symposium brought together over 80 leading investigators to discuss data and ideas on receptor-ligand interactions, membrane organization, signal transduction, peptide transport, cell adhesion, and the regulation of developmental processes. Studies in molecular and cell biology, embryology, neurobiology, and immunology were presented. This volume of collected papers from the Symposium, like its predecessors in this most prestigious series, provides a wide-ranging, eclectic review of a topic central to the understanding of cell structure and function

Book Topographical Projections of Limb Innervating Motor Neurons in Drosophila Melanogaster Specified by Morphological Transcription Factors and Downstream Cell Surface Proteins

Download or read book Topographical Projections of Limb Innervating Motor Neurons in Drosophila Melanogaster Specified by Morphological Transcription Factors and Downstream Cell Surface Proteins written by Lalanti Venkatasubramanian and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using in vivo live imaging I describe the developmental steps involved in Drosophila leg motor neuron axon targeting during metamorphosis and the spatial expression patterns of a novel hetero-binding Ig domain transmembrane protein family - the DIPs and Dprs (Ozkan et al., 2013) in leg neuro-musculature. I further describe a function between interacting partners DIP-alpha and Dpr10, expressed in subsets of leg motor neurons and muscles respectively, in establishing the final stereotyped terminal axon branching of corresponding motor neurons. The combinations of such interactions throughout development between leg motor neurons, not only with muscles in the periphery, but also among themselves, with leg sensory neurons and other components in the central nervous system may ultimately lead to synaptic specificity and stereotyped morphologies of Drosophila leg motor neurons.

Book Membrane Protein Cytoskeleton Interactions

Download or read book Membrane Protein Cytoskeleton Interactions written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1996-11-21 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The plasma membrane acts as both a boundary and a site of exchange between the outside and the inside of a cell. The cytoskeleton plays essential roles in delineating membrane protein distributions, in defining structural and functional domains in the plasma membrane, and in regulating membrane protein, and ultimately, cell function. This volume reviews the regulation of membrane protein distribution, organization, and function at the plasma membrane by the cytoskeleton. Discussions also include the roles of cytoskeleton in the structural and functional organization of membranes and membrane proteins with emphasis on key problems, the current status of understanding, experimental approaches, and future directions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 Kevin Moses It is now 25 years since the study of the development of the compound eye in Drosophila really began with a classic paper (Ready et al. 1976). In 1864, August Weismann published a monograph on the development of Diptera and included some beautiful drawings of the developing imaginal discs (Weismann 1864). One of these is the first description of the third instar eye disc in which Weismann drew a vertical line separating a posterior domain that included a regular pattern of clustered cells from an anterior domain without such a pattern. Weismann suggested that these clusters were the precursors of the adult ommatidia and that the line marks the anterior edge of the eye. In his first suggestion he was absolutely correct - in his second he was wrong. The vertical line shown was not the anterior edge of the eye, but the anterior edge of a moving wave of patterning and cell type specification that 112 years later (1976) Ready, Hansen and Benzer would name the "morphogenetic furrow". While it is too late to hear from August Weismann, it is a particular pleasure to be able to include a chapter in this Volume from the first author of that 1976 paper: Don Ready! These past 25 years have seen an astonishing explosion in the study of the fly eye (see Fig.
