She could paint and draw and sing and wite and most importantly, she could imagine. She earned her Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Art and won several awards for writing. She was nomainted for the Pushcart Prize for poetry in 2001. Her art has been displayed in galleries throughout Chicago and the suburbs. She composed and sang 14 songs for children on her CD, A Hanful of Sunshine, and four of those songs were included in a compilation CD of children's songs. This CD called Kid Tunes was in the first round of judging for a Grammy in 2003. Her video, Love Me/Wash Me was screened as the video poetry festival in Vancouver, Canada in 2004. She sang Girl from Ipanema in concert with world famous sax player Bunky Green. She has written books and produced art installations and raised thousands of dollars for hundreds of disadvantaged kids in Chicago. She was always the sqweetest, kindest, and gentlest person, and she made each day for me an absolute jou. Mary passed in 2015, but her contribution to humanity will live on forever.

The body of work of such sound-based music (which includes electroacoustic art music, turntable composition, computer games, and acoustic and digital sound installations) has developed more rapidly than its musicology. Understanding the Art of Sound Organization proposes the first general foundational framework for the study of the art of sound organization, defining terms, discussing relevant forms of music, categorizing works, and setting sound-based music in interdisciplinary contexts. Leigh Landy's goal in this book is not only to create a theoretical framework but also to make the work more accessible—to suggest a way to understand sound-based music, to give a listener what he terms “something to hold on to,” for example, by connecting elements in a work to everyday experience. Landy considers the difficulties of categorizing works and discusses such types of works as sonic art and electroacoustic music, pointing out where they overlap and how they are distinctive. He proposes a “sound-based music paradigm” that transcends such traditional categories as art and pop music.
