Download or read book Struggles of Voice written by José Antonio Lucero and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2008-10-31 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last two decades, indigenous populations in Latin America have achieved a remarkable level of visibility and political effectiveness, particularly in Ecuador and Bolivia. In Struggles of Voice, Jose Antonio Lucero examines these two outstanding examples in order to understand their different patterns of indigenous mobilization and to reformulate the theoretical model by which we link political representation to social change. Building on extensive fieldwork, Lucero considers Ecuador's united indigenous movement and compares it to the more fragmented situation in Bolivia. He analyzes the mechanisms at work in political and social structures to explain the different outcomes in each case. Lucero assesses the intricacies of the many indigenous organizations and the influence of various NGOs to uncover how the conflicts within social movements, the shifting nature of indigenous identities, and the politics of transnationalism all contribute to the success or failure of political mobilization.Blending philosophical inquiry with empirical analysis, Struggles of Voice is an informed and incisive comparative history of indigenous movements in these two Andean countries. It helps to redefine our understanding of the complex intersections of social movements and political representation.

Download or read book Mama s Voice written by Esther Bganya and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-03-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mamas Voice is the product of a middle-aged Christian psychiatrist and mother who journals her life observations and experiences, hoping to pass on some life lessons to her children. What started off as random journaling of thoughts ended up being a published book released as a birthday present for her children. The book is written in a random manner with life lessons ranging from self-esteem, bad habits, addictions, snobbery, conflict, money, selfishness, greed, and codependent relationships through to family dramas. The author attempts to capture some important life lessons with a touch of humor and rawness that depicts the real-life dramas. Both pleasurable and painful life observations and experiences are unapologetically expressed with a rawness that does not coat it with sweet candy. Its about real life seen through the eyes of a mother going through a midlife crisis and questioning most things she had taken for granted. The messages are given as direct instructions to her children in second or third person voices and riddles. The messages are just as random as they entered the authors thoughts. This is a light read for both the middle aged and young, who are questioning a few things in their worldview. Like the philosopher in the book of Ecclesiastes, the author grapples with certain life issues until she finally realizes that she cannot fix the world and she gives up control. The forty-five-year-old author starts off by writing a letter to her thirteen-year-old self and ends the book with her modified version of the Ten Commandments and a futuristic letter to her eighty-five-year-old self.

On this anniversary God grants it. Ruairi falls asleep. A little girl leads him to a place called the depository where the angel Sirreal is waiting to meet him. At the top of the building is the library, guarded by the Keeper Bookbook, which contains all the Books of Life of each of the Inhabitants. Seeing Ruairi there they rebel and seek out their own Book of Life. They tear the waxen seals off, unleashing their whole life stories as Ruairi planned them. However, some of them abandon their lives when they read the final pages and return to their rooms in the Depository. Others such as the dwarfs decide not to read the last pages and go on a quest to find a place called The Red Pavilion, traveling through strange towns such as Morbeg Dorbeg and its Parliament of Hats, the country of the Belly Rumblers, Colonel Bombois and the Rusty Knight, and Obscuranta where decent souls are persecuted, and skeletons are partially re-fleshed to make their spirits suffer, and, finally, imprisonment in the City of the Jinn. At the same time Ruairi is being shown terrible visions as Bellybulb the devil, battles to deceive and discourage him on his journey. Only when the dwarfs fall into the Pool of the Spirits where Ruairi meets his mother is the real meaning of the Red Pavilion revealed and Ruairi's apocalypse is ended.
