Book Caution Contents are Hot

Download or read book Caution Contents are Hot written by Sandra Alex and published by Sandra Alex. This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An attorney. A billionaire. A secret relationship. And a lie that brings an ugly legal battle, and a promise to end it all…with just one signature. Of course, I didn’t plan on seeing Chas Ford outside of the office, and it’s his fault, if you want the truth. He and his brothers clearly have some so-called iron clad plan to test future business associates. And me, being their new lawyer, is next to take that test. It’s innocent and transparent at first, but then something happens that throws us both off. My lawyer friend Tanya doesn’t know the half of it, but as we meet for our regular Friday lunch, it seems that now we’ve both got secrets in the bag. She being the one dating some mystery man, and me knee deep in Chas, and elbow deep in trouble with his other brothers. Do you think I passed the Ford Brothers’ test? I won’t know until someone signs on the dotted line… *** It’s a bad idea from the start. Me being on a date with our client’s EA, that is. But after the meeting today, there isn’t much choice. With my foot in my mouth and my ass being handed to me, I stew in my own stupidity, as I order her steak and red wine. Worst part is, she doesn’t take the hint, and I end up in hot water with my brothers and with Ericka. With two women on my case, one I can’t stand, the other I can’t stand to be without, let’s just say that I learned a hard lesson. But, as if that isn’t enough, foolishly, while I think I can salvage my reputation with my brothers, a threatening document arrives at my doorstep, begging for more blood, dragging all ten of us in for one last hoorah. Will the party end before it even gets started? HEA (Happily Ever After) Billionaire romance Friends to lovers romance Military romance Medium heat Course language Cliffhanger ending

Book Eighteenth Century Thing Theory in a Global Context

Download or read book Eighteenth Century Thing Theory in a Global Context written by Ileana Baird and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Enlightenment attitudes toward things and their relation to human subjects, this collection offers a geographically wide-ranging perspective on what the eighteenth century looked like beyond British or British-colonial borders. To highlight trends, fashions, and cultural imports of truly global significance, the contributors draw their case studies from Western Europe, Russia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania. This survey underscores the multifarious ways in which new theoretical approaches, such as thing theory or material and visual culture studies, revise our understanding of the people and objects that inhabit the phenomenological spaces of the eighteenth century. Rather than focusing on a particular geographical area, or on the global as a juxtaposition of regions with a distinctive cultural footprint, this collection draws attention to the unforeseen relational maps drawn by things in their global peregrinations, celebrating the logic of serendipity that transforms the object into some-thing else when it is placed in a new locale.

Book excerpt: How do you prevent a critical care nurse from accidentally delivering a morphine overdose to an ill patient? Or ensure that people don't insert their arm into a hydraulic mulcher? And what about enabling trapped airline passengers to escape safely in an emergency? Product designers and engineers face myriad such questions every day. Failure to answer them correctly can result in product designs that lead to injury or even death due to use error. Historically, designers and engineers have searched for answers by sifting through complicated safety standards or obscure industry guidance documents. Designing for Safe Use is the first comprehensive source of safety-focused design principles for product developers working in any industry. Inside you’ll find 100 principles that help ensure safe interactions with products as varied as baby strollers, stepladders, chainsaws, automobiles, apps, medication packaging, and even airliners. You’ll discover how protective features such as blade guards, roll bars, confirmation screens, antimicrobial coatings, and functional groupings can protect against a wide range of dangerous hazards, including sharp edges that can lacerate, top-heavy items that can roll over and crush, fumes that can poison, and small parts that can pose a choking hazard. Special book features include: Concise, illustrated descriptions of design principles Sample product designs that illustrate the book’s guidelines and exemplify best practices Literature references for readers interested in learning more about specific hazards and protective measures Statistics on the number of injuries that have arisen in the past due to causes that might be eliminated by applying the principles in the book Despite its serious subject matter, the book’s friendly tone, surprising anecdotes, bold visuals, and occasional attempts at dry humor will keep you interested in the art and science of making products safer. Whether you read the book cover-to-cover or jump around, the book’s relatable and practical approach will help you learn a lot about making products safe. • Author : James R. Copland

Download or read book The Unelected written by James R. Copland and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America is highly polarized around elections, but unelected actors make many of the decisions that affect our lives. In this lucid history, James R. Copland explains how unaccountable agents have taken over much of the U.S. government apparatus. Congress has largely abdicated its authority. “Independent” administrative agencies churn out thousands of new regulations every year. Courts have enabled these rulemakers to expand their powers beyond those authorized by law—and have constrained executive efforts to rein in the bureaucratic behemoth. No ordinary citizen can know what is legal and what is not. There are some 300,000 federal crimes, 98 percent of which were created by administrative action. The proliferation of rules gives enormous discretion to unelected enforcers, and the severity of sanctions can be ruinous to citizens who unwittingly violate a regulation. Outside the bureaucracy, private attorneys regulate our conduct through lawsuits. Most of the legal theories underlying these suits were never voted upon by our elected representatives. A combination of historical accident, decisions by judges and law professors, and self-interested advocacy by litigators has built an onerous and expensive legal regime. Finally, state and local officials may be accountable to their own voters, but some reach further afield, pursuing agendas to dictate the terms of national commerce. These new antifederalists are subjecting the citizens of Wyoming and Mississippi to the whims of the electorates of New York and San Francisco—contrary to the constitutional design. In these ways, the unelected have assumed substantial control of the American republic, upended the rule of law, given the United States the world’s costliest legal system, and inverted the Constitution’s federalism. Copland caps off his account with ideas for charting a corrective course back to democratic accountability.

Book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions

Download or read book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions written by Jesse Florea and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-09-21 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As girls enter their tween and teen years, it’s especially important for them to have an open and growing relationship with their father. Unfortunately, this is often the time when parental relationships are strained. The One Year Father-Daughter Devotions can foster communication and understanding; and it’s a wonderful way for a father to bond with his daughter during a crucial point in her life. Each of the 365 devotions begins with an introductory story, then daddy-daughter time provides discussion questions, activities, or other practical applications of the daily lesson. A “What’s the Word” section gives a related Bible verse to help bring God’s Word alive as father and daughter apply the Scripture to their lives. Written by three fathers, the devotions have a tone that is conversational and relatable: the authors use everything from flavored potato chips to the Etch-A-Sketch game to share truths about God’s Word and to help fathers and daughters relate to each other.

Book excerpt: Author of Circuit of Heaven “Danvers’s move to SF is a welcome one.” Washington Post THE PATH TO ETERNAL LIFE TRAVELS THROUGH CIRCUITRY In his prophetic masterwork Circuit of Heaven, author Dennis Danvers created the "Bin," a computer-generated paradise into which the vast majority of the world's inhabitants escaped to live forever in virtual bliss. In END OF DAYS, Danvers returns us to this technological Eden—and to the ghost planet, Earth, which humanity abandoned. Seventy years have passed since an army of religious zealots "destroyed" the Bin. Now, in the rubble of New Jerusalem—the ruined city once called Washington—a young Christian Soldier named Sam has uncovered a prototype housing a single uploaded personality. The release of renegade geneticist Walter Tillman from his hundred-year prison leads Sam to an even more astonishing discovery: the Bin, with its billions of inhabitants—including Tillman's lost lover, Stephanie, who desires the freedom of death—still exists, unbeknownst to the mad messianic leader Gabriel and his Army of the Lord. But soon Gabriel, too, will learn of the Bin's survival. And as doubts erode Sam's religious fervor, as Tillman strives to reunite with his love, and events on Earth and in virtual Heaven move rapidly toward a violent, inescapable conclusion, the destinies of disembodied and planet-bound souls alike will converge. And the consequences will be worlds-shattering. "A worthy sequel to Circuit of Heaven... a thoughtful and consistently entertaining book." The New York Times Book Review
