Book Liturgical Catechesis in the 21st Century

Download or read book Liturgical Catechesis in the 21st Century written by James C. Pauley and published by Liturgy Training Publications. This book was released on 2022-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Liturgical Catechesis in the 21st Century: A School of Discipleship, Dr. James Pauley explores the sacred action most essential to forming genuine disciples: the transformative encounter with God in the liturgy.

Drawing upon important twentieth-century intellectual influences as well as the experience of several of today’s foremost catechetical leaders, this book will inspire readers with a promising new vision for sacramental preparation and mystagogical catechesis, one that places maximum emphasis on apprenticing people into an active and fruitful sacramental life in Christ. Dr. James Pauley stresses the importance of discipleship and apprenticeship, leading from the visible to the invisible realities of the divine encounter with God in the sacraments. The relationship of liturgy and catechesis is vitally important to full, conscious and active liturgical participation, and to the life of holiness and missionary responsiveness which depends upon liturgy as its source. This revised edition has been updated to reflect the 2020 Directory for Catechesis.

Participating in the liturgy—the Mass, the Liturgy of the Hours, the sacramental rites, blessings, and other official rites—is the most important act of Catholic Christians, for it is through the liturgy that the faithful give praise to God, thank him for his blessings, and go forth strengthened and challenged to life as Christ’s disciples in the world. This easy-to-read resource explores what it means to call liturgy “source and summit.” It will help the Catholic faithful to understand the meaning of the liturgy and its importance to our life of faith, experience Christ’s four-fold presence in the various Church rites, come to a deeper relationship with God, and reflect on the transforming power of the liturgy to change the world.

Book Returning to Worship

Download or read book Returning to Worship written by Caroline Harvey and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Vatican Council called for a renewed way in which the laity thought about and participated in the liturgy. To this end, the Church is ever in need of pastors and catechists to instruct and guide the faithful to fully conscious and active participation. This project offers a series of catechetical sessions to deepen an adult's understanding of their participation in the highest point of the Mass, the Eucharistic Prayer. The series follows the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states, "Liturgical catechesis aims to initiate people into the mystery of Christ (It is 'mystagogy.') by proceeding from the visible to the invisible, from the sign to the thing signified, from the 'sacraments' to the 'mysteries.' (CCC, no. 1075). Liturgical catechesis provides the catechetical foundation for the project, and mystagogical reflection is the framework for the sessions. Since the participants are adults, the learning model used by the project is the andragogical model, which is learner-driven and experience and discussion based. Reflecting on parts of the Eucharistic Prayer, the participants share their experiences with the other participants and draw conclusions from the shared discussion. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the discussions for this project took place online and asynchronously. Comparing pre-project surveys with post-project surveys reported an increased understanding of the Eucharistic Prayer, the Eucharist, the universal priesthood, and active participation. Individual session surveys also showed an increase in understanding of the session topics - mystery, presence, sacrifice, and worship - the aspects of active participation and universal priesthood that were highlighted in the various parts of the Eucharistic Prayer. The responses from the surveys and the project feedback from the participants indicated that mystagogical catechesis is an effective way to deepen a participant's desire to actively participate in the Mass.

Download or read book Understanding Liturgy written by Charlie Dispenzieri, M.A.P.T. and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Liturgy is a thoughtful exploration of the meaning of the rites and rituals of the Catholic Church. This book is designed for anyone who wants to delve deeper into their Catholic faith and appreciate the beauty of the liturgy. Many Catholics experience the rites and rituals of the Catholic Church without fully understanding their meaning and significance. For these people, the sacraments and other liturgical rites are not relatable to their everyday life. They come to church to pray and encounter God, but often leave the church unfulfilled and unable to make the connections between liturgy and life. Understanding liturgy will draw each person into a more meaningful relationship with God by guiding them in their appreciation of: -liturgical art and environment; -the celebration of feasts and solemnities; -church devotions; -the Mass and the other sacraments; -the liturgical year. Understanding Liturgy is organized into sections, allowing the reader the opportunity to learn the material and put it into use immediately. The content is presented in a practical fashion to explain why the Church prays as it does, drawing upon Catholic Church documents published since the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Charlie Dispenzieri makes sense of these rites and rituals in a very accessible style. He is a master teacher, presenting throughout the country in formal classroom settings, retreats, and seminars. As a liturgist with a vast educational background and an abundance of practical experience, he has mentored priests, deacons, and laypeople to be more successful and effective liturgical ministers.
