It was, in fact, Arizona's first, and for a long while only means of public transportation. If you wanted to travel to or within the Territory in the early days, you had better own a horse or a horse and buggy, or be willing to do a lot of walking. With the advent of stage travel in the late 1860s, all that changed, at least for those well enough off to pay the stagecoach fare. Catch the Stage to Phoenix covers the history of stage-coaching in the early days of the Arizona Territory. Stages traveled from Prescott to Phoenix first via Wickenburg and later through the Black Canyon. The drivers, stage station operators and the travelers, as well, deserve medals for their fortitude and bravery.

Mia Phoenix is an overly responsible nineteen-year-old striving for stardom since losing her parents in a house fire. When Mia ends up on Kolton's team for the debut of the new nationwide singing competition, The Stage, she's not sure if it's her or her voice that he's hell-bent to control. After he takes special interest in her welfare, they've been warned, any contact between them outside of filming is strictly forbidden. He has other ideas. She's a phoenix rising from the ashes, the only one who understands the pain that lies beneath the persona. Though he's not sure if he's too bad for her, he can't stay away. All sinners have a past. All saints have a future. But does being born in fire make the fissures weak in all the wrong places, or stronger than they've ever known? Warning: This book is intended for an adult audience 18 + due to adult content, language, and graphic scenes of a sexual nature. This is book one in a two book series. There is a preview at the end of The Stage called The Tour Preview. Read it at your own risk. This book does not end in a cliffhanger, but the preview does.

Download or read book David and the Phoenix written by David Ormondroyd and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David has no greater wish than to explore the mountains behind his new home in North Carolina and as he does he finds a wonder never dreamed of, the Phoenix. The Phoenix introduces David to an endless list of his friends from mythology and in the process opens David's eyes to the wide world both the unseen world and seen world. In the unseen world David and the Phoenix share many adventures all the while a scientist is trying to capture the Phoenix to prove to the world that the bird is real. The phoenix takes David on "educational field trips" to meet sea monsters, fauns and other creatures. Plus they hatch a hysterical plot to scare off an over eager scientist from the phoenix's trail. David learns some valuable lessons about life, one is that nothing remains the same as one grows up. The other is... well perhaps you should read the book yourself and find your own lessons within the pages. A well written story, "David and the Phoenix" has no particular time setting so that it could very well be placed in current time. It brings back to me memories of times when life was much simpler, more pleasant and without the problems we as adults face. It's a story of childhood and the dreams that children of every age share and which we all to soon leave behind. Of course, there is the traditional fiery death of the phoenix in the story.

Heading back home, things are turned upside down when Gil is captured by a renegade Indian, who exacts a plan of revenge after being humiliated by Gil. Follow along as Gil makes a daring escape in a torturous barefoot run for his life. Gil's challenges, as a newspaperman turned deputy Sheriff, are tempered by a love consummated in marriage, only to be lost through a tragic accident until a renewal of life is found in a most unexpected relationship. There's plenty of old-fashioned adventure, romance, trials of life, and surprising humor that comes at the most awkward of times. Set in 1944 at Fort Neal, a segregated army camp in Louisiana, Charles Fuller's forceful drama--which has been regularly seen in both its original stage and its later screen version starring Denzel Washington--tracks the investigation of this murder. But A Soldier's Play is more than a detective story: it is a tough, incisive exploration of racial tensions and ambiguities among blacks and between blacks and whites that gives no easy answers and assigns no simple blame.
