Volume 2B covers larger fungi in the Basidiomycota, along with the larger Myxomycota. Groups dealt with in this volume include bracket fungi, slime moulds, puffballs, earthballs, earthstars, stinkhorns, birds nest fungi, coral fungi, jelly fungi, polypores, and stereoid, corticioid and thelephoroid fungi. This important work includes entries for more than 1,700 accepted names. Book Zoological Catalogue of Australia

Download or read book Zoological Catalogue of Australia written by G. Cassis and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2002 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The infraorder Pentatomomorpha is the subject of the second volume in the Zoological Catalogue of Australia series dealing with the true bugs (the suborder Heteroptera). It includes the bark bugs, stilt bugs, seed bugs, cotton stainers, burrowing bugs, shield bugs and stink bugs. Many of these species are of significant economic importance both as pests and as natural enemies of other insect pests. In this catalogue, the authors propose a new classification for the Australian Heteroptera based on the most recent developments in heteropterology worldwide. The proposed classification departs significantly from all previous treatment of the Australian fauna. There is a comprehensive treatment of the classification and nomenclature of the Australian species and a thorough review of the literature concerned with the higher classification of the Pentatomomorpha. The volume gives detailed information on the distribution and ecology of each species and features the first in depth listing of their host associations, including a significant accounting of the plant associations. All species and generic synonymies are given, including extra-limital synonyms, along with detailed type specimen data. Features * Provides a new classification for the Australian Heteroptera, reflecting the most recent developments in Heteropterology worldwide * Covers 34 families, 439 genera and 1179 species * Completes the work for the Australian Heteroptera, complementing volume 27.3A * Includes comprehensive synonymical and bibliographic listings and detailed distribution information * Gives the first listing of the host plants of the Pentatomomorpha in Australia * Sample

Download or read book Flora of Australia written by Australian Biological Resources Study and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2004 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 55 contains an account of the largest family of lichens in Australia, the Parmeliaceae. This family, familiar to most people as the common grey or brown to yellowish green foliose lichens of rocks, soil and bark, has about 60 genera and 1000 species worldwide. Thirty-one genera and 395 species are recorded from Australia. The book has keys for identification of genera and species. Each species is fully described, with bibliographic information, a full Australian synonymy, notes on habitat and distribution, and a summary of its chemistry. A distribution map is provided for each taxon and many species are illustrated in colour. An innovation in this volume is the inclusion of a synoptic key to the genera. This volume provides an excellent modern account of a difficult family

Book Catalogue of Australian Mosses

Download or read book Catalogue of Australian Mosses written by Heinar Streimann and published by CSIRO Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous taxonomic revisions and a substantial amount of additional floristic information have become available since the publication of Streimann & Curnow's Catalogue of Mosses of Australia and its External Territories in 1989. Monographs of Australian families and genera have included descriptions of many new taxa and the reduction of an even larger number of names to synonymy. Moreover, many taxa have been newly reported from Australia, while other Australian records have proved to be based on misidentifications or could not otherwise be confirmed. Taxonomic revisions from other regions have also resulted in many name changes among Australian taxa, and floristic research has provided numerous new State and Territory records.

Book Systematics and Evolution

Download or read book Systematics and Evolution written by David J. McLaughlin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes treatments of systematics and related topics for both fungi and fungus-like organisms in four eukaryotic supergroups, as well as specialized chapters on nomenclature, techniques and evolution. These organisms are of great interest to mycologists, plant pathologists and others, including those interested in the animal parasitic Microsporidia. Our knowledge of the systematics and evolution of fungi has made great strides since the first edition of this volume, largely driven by molecular phylogenetic analyses. Consensus among mycologists has led to a stable systematic treatment that has since become widely adopted and is incorporated into this second edition, along with a great deal of new information on evolution and ecology. The systematic chapters cover occurrence, distribution, economic importance, morphology and ultrastructure, development of taxonomic theory, classification, and maintenance and culture. Other chapters deal with nomenclatural changes necessitated by revisions of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants, including the elimination of separate names for asexual states, as well as methods for preservation of cultures and specimens, character evolution and methods for ultrastructural study, the fungal fossil record, and the impact of whole genomes on fungal studies.

Book Key to the Genera of Australian Macrolichens

Download or read book Key to the Genera of Australian Macrolichens written by Patrick M. McCarthy and published by CSIRO Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macrolichens are not necessarily large lichens. Instead, the term has been used traditionally for lichens other than crustose types, i.e. scaly, leafy or shrubby lichens, usually with discrete organs of attachment to the substratum; in other words, distinctly three-dimensional, in contrast to their closely appressed or immersed, two-dimensional relatives. This key to the genera of Australian macrolichens follows recently published guides to apothecial crusts and pyrenocarps. It covers all 135 genera of macrolichens known to occur in Australia, and illustrates two-thirds of them in full color. To ease identification, it uses mostly traits that are visible with the naked eye or a 10× hand lens, and for all genera it adds information on habitat, distribution within Australia, and literature references.
