Angel Man, runs the ring like a businessman using the no mercy tactics of a terrorist. Though the cartel has muscled its way into his operation, he's sure he can sidestep the wrath of the cartel's hitman and secretly start his own lucrative side business using select high-end girls, including his long-time captive, Haley, as a lure. But sixteen-year-old Haley is looking for an out, one that doesn't leave her dead. Police Sergeant Angie Granger is assigned to help FBI Special Agent John Gallagher take down the ring by going undercover into the dark world of sex trafficking. Angie's new romantic interest, former Army Ranger turned bounty hunter, Mac Barelli, is not too happy about that. Further complicating the matter, Mac is pulled into the operation when his dead military buddy's daughter is taken by the ring, and her mother uses her own attraction for Mac and his PTSD guilt over the loss of his friend to influence him into helping her look for her daughter. Events spiral out of control when the time frame for the FBI's raid is leaked, and Mac and the found girls are trapped inside the tunnels of an old monastery where the ring has its operation. But the cartel's hitman is onto them and has murder on his mind.

Book Honky Tonk Angel

Download or read book Honky Tonk Angel written by Ellis Nassour and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthy, sexy, and vivacious, the life of beloved country singer, Patsy Cline, who soared from obscurity to international fame to tragic death in just thirty short years, is explored in colorful and poignant detail. An innovator?and even a hell-raiser?Cline broke all the boys' club barriers of Nashville's music business in the 1950s and brought a new Nashville sound to the nation with her pop hits and torch ballads like ?Walking After Midnight," ?I Fall to Pieces? and "Crazy." She is the subject of a major Hollywood movie and countless articles, and her albums are still selling 45 years after her death. Ellis Nassour was the very first to write about Cline and did so with the cooperation of the stars who knew and loved her?including Jimmy Dean, Jan Howard, Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn, Roger Miller, Dottie West, and Faron Young. He was the only writer to interview Cline's mother and husbands. This updated edition features not only a complete discography and a host of never-before-published photographs, but includes an afterword that details controversial claims about her birth, the battle between Cline's siblings for her possessions, the amazing influence Cline had on a new generation of singers and, in Cline's own words from letters to a devoted friend, her excitement as her career soared to new heights and her marriage descended to new depths.

Book Striving for Better Jobs

Download or read book Striving for Better Jobs written by Roberta Gatti and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2014-09-12 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While economic growth has been sustained for a number of years in many countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, this has not resulted in the creation of an adequate number of jobs and has succeeded, at best, in generating low-quality, informal jobs. While there is a great deal of heterogeneity across countries, informality in MENA is widespread, and some countries in the region are amongst the most informal economies in the world. The book looks at informality through a human development angle and focuses specifically on informal employment. In line with this approach, the working definition for informality adopted in the book is “lack of social security coverage” (usually understood as pensions, or if a pension system does not exist, as health insurance), which captures well the vulnerability associated with informal employment. Informal workers in MENA are generally engaged in low productivity jobs - more so than in comparator countries -, are paid less for otherwise similar work in the formal sector, and self-report low levels of satisfaction at work. Also, informal workers in MENA face important mobility barriers into formal employment and thus lack of social security coverage against health, unemployment, and old-age risks. Formal employment in the MENA region is strongly associated with public sector employment. Opportunities for formal employment in the private sector in the region remain very limited. The book identifies 5 strategic directions to promote long-term inclusive growth and formality, namely: (i) fostering competition; (ii) realigning incentives in the public sector; (iii) moving towards labor regulations that promote labor mobility and provide support to workers in periods of transition; (iv) enhancing the productivity of informal workers through training and skills upgrading; and (v) reforming existing social insurance systems and introduce new instruments for coverage extension. This book is addressed to policy makers, academics, and practitioners who wish to understand the phenomenon of informal employment, and policy options for promoting more inclusive and productive labor market opportunities.

Book Doing Justice Doing Gender

Download or read book Doing Justice Doing Gender written by Susan Ehrlich Martin and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2006-10-27 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Martin and Jurik provide a clear body of evidence illuminating the gendered nature of criminal justice occupations. Of the multitude of feminist works on this topic, this is one of the best analyses available." —CRIMINAL JUSTICE REVIEW Doing Justice, Doing Gender: Women in Legal and Criminal Justice Occupations is a highly readable, sociologically grounded analysis of women working in traditionally male dominant justice occupations of law, policing, and corrections. This Second Edition represents not only a thorough update of research on women in these fields, but a careful reconsideration of changes in justice organizations and occupations and their impact on women′s justice work roles over the past 40 years. New to the Second Edition: Introduces a wider range of workplace diversity and experiences: An expanded sociological theoretical framework grasps the interplay of gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation in understanding workplace identities and inequities. Provides a better understanding of the centrality of gender issues to understanding the legal and criminal justice system in general: This edition further connects women′s work experiences to social trends and consequent changes in legal system and in criminal justice agencies. Offers a more international perspective: More material is included on women lawyers, police, and correctional officers in countries outside the U.S. Intended Audience: This is an excellent supplemental text for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses such as Gender & Work; Women and Work; Sociology of Work and Occupations; Women and the Criminal Justice System; and Gender Justice in the departments of Sociology, Criminal Justice, Women′s Studies, and Social Work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Kienzle's are the best books ever written about a cleric and among the best of everything in the past quarter century." —Otto Penzler, in Mystery Magazine "There are few authors whose books a reader anticipates from the moment he finished the last effort. . . . Add William Kienzle to the list." —Dallas Times Herald "Father Koesler is on the case, thank God." —Baltimore Sun In the fourth Father Koesler thriller, William X. Kienzle proved his versatility. Assault with Intent combines raucous humor with the same clever plotting and strong characterization that are his trademark. Murphy's Law seems to be the only force preventing four arcane conspirators from accomplishing their murderous plans to assassinate priests teaching in Detroit's seminaries. Incredibly, each of their attacks is thwarted by strange coincidence and ineptitude until they finally succeed—or do they? Father Robert Koesler, the crime-solving hero of Kienzle's mysteries, is drawn into the case first as a concerned friend of the intended victims and then as a target himself. Inspector Walter Koznicki returns to investigate for the Detroit police department and reporters Joe Cox and Pat Lennon continue their romance amid the rivalry of their two newspapers, the Detroit News and Free Press. Who is responsible for this series of assaults? A disgruntled seminary student who has gone too far? The dangerously fanatical leader of a secretive arch-conservative Catholic society? Another priest? There are far too few clues and too many possibilities. And when a zany crew of movie-makers arrives from Hollywood to film the story before the crime itself is solved, Assault with Intent becomes a three-ring circus of mystery and slapstick.

Download or read book Remake Television written by Carlen Lavigne and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remakes are pervasive in today’s popular culture, whether they take the form of reboots, “re-imaginings,” or overly familiar sequels. Television remakes have proven popular with producers and networks interested in building on the nostalgic capital of past successes (or giving a second chance to underused properties). Some TV remakes have been critical and commercial hits, and others haven’t made it past the pilot stage; all have provided valuable material ripe for academic analysis. In Remake Television: Reboot, Re-use, Recycle, edited by Carlen Lavigne, contributors from a variety of backgrounds offer multicultural, multidisciplinary perspectives on remake themes in popular television series, from classic cult favorites such as The Avengers (1961–69) and The X-Files (1993–2002) tocurrent hits like Doctor Who (2005–present) and The Walking Dead (2010–present). Chapters examine what constitutes a remake, and what series changes might tell us about changing historical and cultural contexts—or about the medium of television itself.
