Cependant, l'image obtenue représente qu’une partie des informations, et nombreuses propriétés physiques du tissu restent inaccessibles. Dans cette optique, la caractérisation tissulaire, qui a pour but de définir des paramètres quantitatifs permettant de décrire l’état du tissu, est un auxiliaire précieux du diagnostic. Malheureusement, les paramètres classiques ne renseignent que sur l’état macroscopique du tissu, en raison de la résolution limitée des échographes et de la complexité de l'interaction entre l'onde ultrasonore et les tissus. Nous avons étudié diverses méthodes de déconvolution pour améliorer le pouvoir de résolution et déterminer la plus efficacement adaptée à l’échographie. Nous avons abordé les problèmes de l’estimation du rapport signal à bruit et de la réponse impulsionnelle, liés à la déconvolution. Nous avons enfin développé une modélisation acoustique du tissu musculaire en l'assimilant à un réseau quasi régulier de cylindres et poursuivi l’étude de la diffusion pour estimer les informations contenues dans l'interaction onde/tissu. Les résultats obtenus in vitro sur les muscles confirment la validité de notre approche (traitement du signal et acoustique). Cependant, un certain nombre de questions concernant l'amélioration de la déconvolution, l'estimation du rapport signal à bruit et la modélisation acoustique du milieu restent d'actualité pour mettre au point une méthode fiable.
