Download or read book Car Boot Tales written by Paul J. Rose and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you've ever wondered what goes through the mind of a car boot stall holder, then there are two things you need to do:1. Read this book2. Get yourself some new hobbiesIf you're thinking about setting up your very first car boot stall, then this book will be an excellent guide for you. If you've done one before, then the characters you'll meet in here will be all too familiar to you.Whilst it would be all too easy to present this book as some sort of manual, it's primary purposes is to make you wonder why anyone in their right mind would ever choose to sell at a car boot sale. The hours are unsociable, the weather unpredictable and the profits are non existent. But do it right, and they'll be the most hilarious and fun way to spend a morning.Paul J Rose took his assorted 'treasures' to a selection of car boot sales close to his home. His mission was a simple one - to clear out his house. However, as time went on, something much more interesting happened; the exchanges that took place between buyer and seller became more and more ridiculous.Eventually, the desire to get rid of stuff took second place to the gathering of stories. People's attempts at negotiation were frankly laughable, and it became clear that there was a pattern, and if that pattern could be recognised, then every car boot sale would be a joy.If you're looking for a guide on how to make the most money at a car boot sale, then you won't find it here. This is a light hearted look at the people that choose to spend their early mornings in a field, looking to purchase other people's junk. Well, 'light hearted' would be one way to put it; 'rant on the part of a middle aged malcontent' might be another. For the entrepreneur, your guide to making millions awaits you....in some other book. In here, we cling to a simple mantra: "These people are paying me to clean my house."What you do need to know is that every exchange that takes place in this book genuinely happened. The internal monologue of the seller will certainly have been enhanced for comedic purposes, but however unbelievable these stories get, please know that they are all completely true.So if you're looking for an easy read that hopes to bring you some laughs, then Car Boot Tales is definitely the book for you.Enjoy it on the train. Read it on the bus. Fill pointless moments in the toilet. Seriously, how is any of this a big deal? It's a book - if you don't know the portable nature of books by now then there's really very little hope for you.
Download or read book Cat O Nine Tales written by Jeffrey Archer and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2007-06-12 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cat O'Nine Tales is the fifth collection of irresistible short stories from the master storyteller and bestselling author Jeffrey Archer. Ingeniously plotted, with richly drawn characters and Archer's trademark of deliciously unexpected conclusions, some of these thirteen stories were inspired by the two years Jeffrey Archer spent in prison, including the story of a company chairman who tries to poison his wife while on a trip to St Petersburg—with unexpected consequences. The Red King is a tale about a con man who discovers that an English Lord requires one more chess piece to complete a set that would be worth a fortune. In another tale of deception, The Commissioner, a Bombay con artist ends up in the morgue, after he uses the police chief as bait in his latest scam. The Perfect Murder reveals how a convict manages to remove an old enemy while he's locked up in jail, and then set up two prison officers as his alibi. In Charity Begins at Home, an accountant realizes he has achieved nothing in his life, and sets out to make a fortune before he retires. And then there is Archer's favorite, In the Eye of the Beholder, where a handsome star athlete falls in love with a three-hundred-pound woman...who happens to be the ninth richest woman in Italy. Jeffrey Archer is the only author to have topped international bestseller lists with his fiction, non-fiction, and his short stories. Cat O'Nine Tales is Archer at his best: witty, sad, surprising, and unforgettable.

Download or read book The Toothful Tale written by Dr Pratyush Dhage and published by Pratyush. This book was released on with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SYNOPSIS This tale traces a part of the life of Yash and his doctor friends, namely Tania, Maahi, Krishna, Siddhanta and Balminder. This story and theme are one of those which has been attempted for the first time. There have been stories on general doctors but never especially on DENTISTS or their life. A dentist ever shown in movies is generally depicted as a funny or a stupid or a desperate person. This story takes the reader inside a ‘Dental College’ and ‘A hospital’ to bring out the incidents that go on. These include a viva, argument with teachers, a doctor slapping his mate in front of the patients and getting two notices from the principal. A strike against the hike in fees and its ‘political’ end by the college management, the chaos when a HOD enters the department, the atmosphere before a Dental council inspection in the college. From viewing surgeries performed by their favourite teachers to finally the feeling of going and registering as one... The Toothful Tale covers it all. It all starts on a train in which a young dentist (Yash) is going for his Internship. In the train, he finds company with a girl (Anvesha) who is a first-year student in his college. The girl forgets to ask what Yash does and a hilarious incident tells Anvesha that Yash is a senior in her own college! A tale in which, young doctors learn to examine and deal with a variety of patients ranging from a man who has Trigeminal Neuralgia (The worlds worst skull-cracking headache) to a woman who cannot close her mouth due to Mandibular Dislocation. They see a patient who has broken a safety pin in his tooth, keep cool when one comes and fights with them, meet a crying 55-year man who holds their feet and then a 70-year-old man who desires to die instead of living in pain. From a 16 year old boy who has a life threatening allergic reaction called as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis to a dead body that has the brain and eye hanging out. From a 15 yr boy who has Psoriatic Arthritis, to a 35-year-old woman who has Pemphigus Vulgaris - The most deadly skin disease in the world. They take part in the surgery on a case of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis and enjoy the comments made by the operating dentist. It also traces the thoughts of the new doctors as they encounter these cases. They on their part, try to deal with the inhuman attitude of the nurses and the ward boys toward the ailing patients and do their part in making life easy and comfortable for the ailing... They find around them many serious things that include infanticide in the sewer and studying for a good life. They play with small kids, cry over the thought of being bad to parents, feel happy when good incidents come in others life, listen to a real-life story told by a Railway Engine Driver From discussing dowry to bringing out a small truth in today’s most marriages; and doing their part to help and punish some dastardly acts such as eve-teasing, child abuse and trying to stop a group of rioters of a political party. They enjoy hilarious incidents over a year such as puncturing a teacher’s car tyre to impersonating one at a conference. They go for tours, live for two days without electricity and sometimes race cars at night on the Marine Drive. From using their sophisticated dental instruments to handling weird and irresistible gadgets, from discussing funny errors taking place in the clinics with patients to saving innocent juniors from ragging, they do it all... A friendship story that starts in a train and unknowingly blooms into a heart tickling love tale. A tale that brings out the feelings of a boy and a girl when they go out together for the first time on an outing, a tale that tells about the pleasures of sneaking out of the hostel for the thrill of getting wet in the rain with someone you like. Some different ideas of romance wherein, they go for a round through the wards of a hospital, get their teeth cleaned on a dental chair and recreate the appearance of a 13 year old young boy with a broken tooth. A story in which, a proposal on the Yamuna Bridge gets its suitable reply in the world’s finest building - The Taj Mahal. There is love, fun and then there is the girl slapping the boy for his mistake that nearly costs him his life. A romantic kiss that starts in 2008 and ends in 2009, getting engaged for real in a heartwarming situation at the end, The Dentists live a year of life that everyone wants to live at least once...
Download or read book Tell Tales written by Various and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2015-03-28 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every person has a tale to tell, a short story in them, a glimpse into someone else’s life and the things that have happened to them. Everyone has a voice, but not everyone has the courage to use it, to tell their tales with honesty and conviction. We found our voices over coffee and treats at Libby’s in Marple Bridge one dismal Wednesday morning in January. An idea was formed when a group of like-minded women friends decided to try to write some of these stories down to raise money for The Christie Hospital in Manchester. None of us has made any money from the writing of these stories. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? The first part, perhaps the most difficult part, was finding what to write about, experimenting with rhythm, style, tone and words to express our stories in a way we hoped would be of interest to someone else. But as our confidence increased and we bounced stories and ideas around between each other, writing and rewriting, we discovered that we liked the sound of our own voices! So, here are our offerings. We hope you will enjoy them, read them and hopefully, return to them occasionally. We hope to entertain you and to make you reflect on your own lives and experiences as you share ours. Sally Clegg & Sharon Goddard (Joint Editors) "Fiction is the art of the possible, of making imaginary words real, of being able, if only in a limited word-count, to put this world to rights. The best fiction is challenging and yet familiar, complex and yet sure of itself, able to disrupt or ruffle, but able also to smooth out differences, to restore, to heal. The stories in Tell Tales know a thing or two about the challenges of living and how they are to be overcome by generosity, attention and good faith. The stories, presented here anonymously in a spirit of inclusiveness all too rarely encountered, speak to lives that are knotty and difficult and at times impossible, as all our lives frequently are. They are sharp and clever, funny and kind. So is the project. All proceeds from the sale of this anthology go to the Christie Hospital which does such excellent work in caring for those who most need our care. I am happy to support this book, and I urge you to buy it for yourself and for everyone you know, to take heart from its big heart, and to enjoy it as I have done." Download or read book The Reporter s Tale written by Tom Davies and published by Berwyn Mountain Press. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 707 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reporter’s Tale is an adventure story about Tom Davies, a young Welsh writer who travels the world looking for the truth and, in a few days of blistering revelation in Malaya, finds it in a series of visions. Thereafter, he takes his new insights on a journey through the media, becoming a reporter for top Sunday newspapers – and later an award-winning author of many books – and realising he has a fresh understanding of the causes of the violence which is so blighting the modern world. His odyssey of discovery begins in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles where he finds that the media – with its persistent pursuit of violence – is the cause of much of the disorder there. The global media, which specialises in reporting the worst of everything from everywhere, has become the mother and father of modern terrorism, he says, giving the IRA disproportionate power and importance merely because they offer violence. Television in particular is the catalyst for the growing disorder in our streets: becoming the very leader of street riot while also giving motive and reward to suicide bombers. The many revolutions of the Arab Spring are fully explained by his visions, he shows. Here the world’s media first began feeding on the self-immolation of a Tunisian trader before spawning revolution after revolution in neighbouring countries. They all wanted freedom and democracy, we were told, but all that seemed to be happening was that they were deranged by watching too much television news as each service, particularly Al Jazeera, spooled out violent imagery on an almost twenty four hour loop mostly from footage downloaded from their viewers’ mobile phones. All outlets of the media have come together and conspired to set loose a tide of evil which is turning violence into the very oxygen we are all now breathing, Davies shows in this book which may well be the most powerful and trenchant attack ever mounted on the tyranny of the modern media.

Download or read book Thapathi s Tale written by Radha Raju and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-01-24 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thapathi’s Tale is a first person account of a woman born within the first decade post-Independence. It chronicles her transformation from a shy little girl in an orthodox south Indian family in Chennai, raised to be a “good home maker”, to a confident professional, eventually transcending the prevailing cultural definitions and expectations. This tale, told without filters, captures with candour the way she keeps pushing her boundaries, finding her own space in the world, to establish her individual identity as a person of her own. But this book is more than just her story- it chronicles the changing values and lifestyles of a generation that experienced transformation and the adaptations needed for coping at every stage . Every era comes alive through the small details, captured with love and humour. “Thapathi” is the affectionate name given to Radha by her grandchildren. While this story was originally written for them, it will resonate with generations that grew up in pre-liberalised India, and experienced the enormous change that took place in the turn of the century. And for the fresh generations to which Thapathi’s grandchildren belong, it will give a glimpse into a warm and cosy world that has vanished from sight but lingers in the minds as stories of a fading generation.
