Book The Holy Spirit Calling

Download or read book The Holy Spirit Calling written by A. L. Istener and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is being published as gift to the Chaminade-Nativity Community of Faith - It is they who brought me from a very dark place into the light. They restored my faith and gave me hope. Like Ezekiel’s vision (37) in the graveyard, I received the Holy Spirit and came to life! This is my gift to them. I have published it to preserve 40 years of private revelation given to me by the Holy Spirit. I believe that the Lord wants it published to remind us that we are well loved, that he is alive and well in his church, and that He died for all mankind. In the Catholic Church, these words are considered “private revelation”, as distinguished from the Scriptures or the official teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church. As such, they require consultation and discernment as to their authenticity. Before publication they were submitted to the Magisterium of the Archdiocese of Miami (as the conscience of the community) and found to be free of doctrinal or moral error. This process is known as receiving the Imprimatur – see on page 3. As members of the Charismatic Renewal part of each meeting is devoted to listening to the Lord and speaking out a word He may have for us. We call it “prophecy”. Its authenticity is discerned by the community. We believe that prophecy is one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us to guide, correct, encourage, and build community, reminding us that God remains with His church and continues to reveal Himself to us. Prophecy is ordinarily spoken out spontaneously, not written as mine is. Over the years I wondered why my prophecy was written, until I started to prepare this book for publication. It was then that I realized that He knew 40 years ago that He wanted this book to be published. Had they been given spontaneously they would not have been written down and I would not have had them to publish. It had taken me 40 years to see it. Two books, God Calling and Jesus Calling were the inspiration for the title of the book. These two authors, looking for a reason to go on living, found no consolation in their desperate prayers. In a final effort they decided to pray as usual, listen and write down anything they thought could be a response from God. In their listening a dialogue began that flowered into relationship. Something interesting happened in the process of publication. Because many people, when they read some of the words thought that it was poetry I had written myself, I wanted to assure that everyone knew that I was not the author of the book but that I was, like the other two authors, only a listener and collector of the words. This was made clear in the Introduction and Conclusion of the book. After much thought I decided that under these circumstances it would be best to use a pen name rather than my own and had fun picking one out – A.L. Istener (a listener). After sending the name in to the publisher I had lunch with a friend and colleague who is Hungarian. “Isten”, she said, means “God” in Hungarian. He had figured that out too. Oddity: Most of the words have no punctuation – After praying about it, my understanding is that those who know his voice know his inflections also, which makes punctuation unnecessary. I like the sound of it better myself without it. It is my hope that those who read this book do so using the following method – His favorite invitation “Come here, climb into My arms. Let Me cradle you right here, close to My heart. Can you hear it beating? I just want to love you.” I guarantee that you will be able to recognize his voice too.

Book Caught up to Heaven with the Holy Spirit

Download or read book Caught up to Heaven with the Holy Spirit written by Grace I. George and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pleasefor Jesus sake, stop neglecting the Bible, and get it inside you! We are under demonic attack on an unparalleled scale. Jesus sees your pain and wants to rescue you from darkness, just as he rescued Grace George. It may seem impossible, but with God, nothing is impossible. This first volume of Caught up to Heaven over 320 times contains a number of testimonies, revelations, dreams, and songs given to Grace by Jesus. Many of the victories she saw in heaven have already happened on earth, including raising the dead to life. Her ministry is a reflection of Luke 4:19: The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. Remember John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. This is what the Word of God says, and every word in the Scriptures is true.

Book The Crusades to the Holy Land

Download or read book The Crusades to the Holy Land written by Alan V. Murray and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-04-28 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the latest scholarship by experts in the field, this work provides an accessible guide to the Crusades fought for the liberation and defense of the Holy Land—one of the most enduring and consequential conflicts of the medieval world. The Crusades to the Holy Land were one of the most important religious and social movements to emerge over the course of the Middle Ages. The warfare of the Crusades affected nearly all of Western Europe and involved members of social groups from kings and knights down to serfs and paupers. The memory of this epic long-ago conflict affects relations between the Western and Islamic worlds in the present day. The Crusades to the Holy Land: The Essential Reference Guide provides almost 90 A–Z entries that detail the history of the Crusades launched from Western Europe for the liberation or defense of the Holy Land, covering the inception of the movement by Pope Urban II in 1095 up to the early 14th century. This concise single-volume work provides accessible articles and perspective essays on the main Crusade expeditions as well as the important crusaders, countries, places, and institutions involved. Each entry is accompanied by references for further reading. Readers will follow the career of Saladin from humble beginnings to becoming ruler of Syria and Egypt and reconquering almost all of the Holy Land from its Christian rulers; learn about the main sites and characteristics of the castles that were crucial to the Christian domination of the Holy Land; and understand the key aspects of crusading, from motivation and recruitment to practicalities of finance and transport. The reference guide also includes survey articles that provide readers with an overview of the original source materials written in Latin, Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Armenian, and Syriac.

Book THE HOLY BIBLE Updated American Standard Version UASV

Download or read book THE HOLY BIBLE Updated American Standard Version UASV written by Christian Publishing House and published by Christian Publishing House. This book was released on 2022-02-07 with total page 1448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Updated American Standard Version (UASV) is a literal translation. Translating from the original languages of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek is a task unlike any other and should never be taken lightly. It carries with it the heaviest responsibility: the translator renders God’s thoughts into a modern language. What does that mean? It means that our primary purpose is to give the Bible readers what God said by way of his human authors, not what a translator thinks God meant in its place. In other words, our primary goal is to be accurate and faithful to the original text. The meaning of a word is the responsibility of the interpreter (i.e., reader), not the translator. The translator remains faithful to this literal translation philosophy unless it has been determined that the rendering will be misunderstood or misinterpreted. The translator is not tasked with making the text easy to read, but rather to make it as accurately faithful to the original as possible. UASV PURPOSE Our primary purpose is to give the Bible readers what God said by way of his human authors, not what a translator thinks God meant in its place.—Truth Matters! UASV GOAL Our primary goal is to be accurate and faithful to the original text. The meaning of a word is the responsibility of the interpreter (i.e., reader), not the translator.—Translating Truth! OUR RESOURCES The Updated American Standard Version will be one of the most faithful and accurate translations to date by Christian Publishing House. It will remain faithful to the original and what the authors penned. We will not go beyond the translator’s responsibility into the field of the interpreter. Removing the Outdated Passages with the Old English “thee’s” and “thou’s” etc. have been replaced with modern English. Many words and phrases that were extremely ambiguous or easily misunderstood since the 1901 ASV have been updated according to the best lexicons. Verses with difficult word order or vocabulary have been translated into correct English grammar and syntax, for easier reading. However, if the word order of the original conveyed meaning, it was kept. More Accurate The last 110+ years have seen the discovering of far more manuscripts, especially the papyri, with many manuscripts dating within 100 years of the originals. While making more accurate translation choices, we have stayed true to the literal translation philosophy of the ASV, while other literal translations abandon the philosophy far too often. The translator seeks to render the Scriptures accurately, without losing what the Bible author penned by changing what the author wrote, by distorting or embellishing through imposing what the translator believes the author meant into the original text. Accuracy in Bible translation is being faithful to what the original author wrote (the words that he used), as opposed to going beyond into the meaning, trying to determine what the author meant by his words. The latter is the reader’s job. The translator uses the most reliable, accurate critical texts (e.g., WH, NA, UBS, BHS, as well as the original language texts, versions, and other sources that will help him to determine the original reading. Why the Need for Updated Translations? New manuscript discoveries Changes in the language A better understanding of the original languages Improved insight into Bible translation

Download or read book Getting the Holy Ghost written by Peter Marina and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book carries an ethnographic signature in approach and style, and is an examination of a small Brooklyn, New York, African-American, Pentecostal church congregation and is based on ethnographic notes taken over the course of four years. The Pentecostal Church is known to outsiders almost exclusively for its members' "bizarre" habit of speaking in tongues. This ethnography, however, puts those outsiders inside the church pews, as it paints a portrait of piety, compassion, caring, love--all embraced through an embodiment perspective, as the church's members experience these forces in the most personal ways through religious conversion. Central themes include concerns with the notion of "spectacle" because of the grand bodily display that is highlighted by spiritual struggle, social aspiration, punishment and spontaneous explosions of a variety of emotions in the public sphere. The approach to sociology throughout this work incorporates the striking dialectic of history and biography to penetrate and interact with religiously inspired residents of the inner-city in a quest to make sense both empirically and theoretically of this rapidly changing, surprising and highly contradictory late-modern church scene. The focus on the individual process of becoming Pentecostal provides a road map into the church and canvasses an intimate view into the lives of its members, capturing their stories as they proceed in their Pentecostal careers. This book challenges important sociological concepts like crisis to explain religious seekership and conversion, while developing new concepts such as "God Hunting" and "Holy Ghost Capital" to explain the process through which individuals become tongue-speaking Pentecostals. Church members acquire "Holy Ghost Capital" and construct a Pentecostal identity through a relationship narrative to establish personal status and power through conflicting tongue-speaking ideas. Finally, this book examines the futures of the small and large, institutionally affiliated Pentecostal Church and argues that the small Pentecostal Church is better able to resist modern rationalizing forces, retaining the charisma that sparked the initial religious movement. The power of charisma in the small church has far-reaching consequences and implications for the future of Pentecostalism and its followers.
