Download or read book Capital Gains Tax Reliefs for Smes and Entrepreneurs 2015 16 written by Rebecca Cave and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capital Gains Tax Reliefs for SMEs and Entrepreneurs (formerly the highly-revered Capital Gains Tax, Roll-over, Hold-over and Deferral Reliefs) takes all the essential information on UK capital gains tax reliefs that may apply to small and medium sized businesses (SMEs), and builds a special focus on reliefs available to entrepreneurs. The specialist technical information will guide readers through the reliefs available for UK clients' capital transactions. The book compares and contrasts how different types of businesses can benefit and gives guidance on how to avoid the pitfalls put in place to prevent the abuse of those reliefs. It outlines the calculation, process, and application of the key tools that allow gains to be deferred, held-over, or extinguished, as well as addressing the use of capital losses which may arise. The emphasis is on entrepreneurs' relief, EIS, SEIS, and social investment relief. It is structured to reflect the changing needs of a business and its owners throughout the business lifecycle, from sole-trader to incorporation, expansion to a group, withdrawal of the founders, passing-on the business, and disincorporation. Capital Gains Tax Reliefs for SMEs and Entrepreneurs 2015/16 is designed to be used on a day-in day-out basis, with handy hints, tips and planning suggestions, a wealth of worked examples, and fully updated to the latest UK legislation. ~

Book Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives

Download or read book Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives written by Tamara Wilkinson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the best ways for governments to design venture capital investment incentives. Venture capital is a multi-billion-dollar industry and a major driver of innovation and national growth. Investment in startup companies by venture capital funds helps finance new inventions and create wealth, economic growth, and jobs. However, because venture capital investment is highly risky and sensitive to market downturns, many governments around the world use special legal and tax incentives to help encourage this form of investment. Since the introduction of the first venture capital incentive in the USA in 1958, scores of venture capital incentives have come and gone. These incentives have experienced varied success, with some failing entirely. Filling a gap in an important area, this book employs a legal and regulatory approach to examine venture capital policy from a global perspective. It uses an analytical framework to evaluate the design, implementation, and success of incentives, and looks at over 60 examples from 25 countries around the world. The book is aimed at researchers and policy makers in law, finance and economics, as well as practitioners and investors in the venture capital space. The book introduces the legal aspects of venture capital investment and presents a list of leading practice guidelines and recommendations to help policy makers design effective, efficient, and appropriate venture capital incentives.

Download or read book Budget 2011 written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Treasury Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-04-09 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report looks at the way the Office for Budget Responsibility has functioned in this, the first Budget since it was permanently established. It raises concerns about the timetable for the economic forecast, noting: the timetable agreed for this forecast and Budget required all decisions which would impact on the economic forecast to be made at least a fortnight before Budget day. It recommended that the timetable should be revisited to provide more flexibility enabling economic shocks and late political decisions to be accommodated. The Committee looked at the economy, public finances, the plan for growth, taxation and the Office for Budget Responsibility. It continues to press for a full review of the OBR including its powers, remit and relationship to Parliament. Also calling for gradual reform of the tax regime and noting the Government's decision to increase the supplementary rate of corporation tax on the oil and gas industry by 12 percentage points in the Budget - less than a year after promising to provide a stable tax regime in the sector -might weaken the Government's credibility in seeking to establish a stable tax regime. The Committee was pleased with the further reduction in corporation tax announced in the Budget as this was a positive measure aimed at boosting growth. With regard to Enterprise Zones it may have some effect in reviving particular areas, but it was noted that almost all the evidence received is unsure about the extent to which they will contribute to UK growth. It is clear that there is still much to be done on the details of this policy.

Book Financing SMEs and Entrepreneurs 2019

Download or read book Financing SMEs and Entrepreneurs 2019 written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sufficient and affordable access to different sources of finance is crucial to allow SMEs and entrepreneurs to reach their full potential. The 8th edition of the Scoreboard on SME and Entrepreneurship Finance report provides data from 46 countries around the world on debt finance, alternative finance instruments and financing conditions, as well as information on policy initiatives to improve their access to finance. In 2017, SME bank credit increased at a modest pace in many countries and declined in some others, in the context of broadly positive macroeconomic conditions, improvements in the business environment and accommodative credit conditions. In contrast, volumes were generally up for most other sources of finance relevant for SMEs and entrepreneurs, such as leasing, factoring, online alternative finance, and venture capital investments. At the same time, a growing share of SMEs relied on self-financing for their investment needs and cash flow requirements in 2017. The thematic chapter of this publication investigates the potential for SMEs to leverage their intangible assets to access external finance, especially debt.

This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The excessive complexity and burden of the Brazilian tax system, riddled by cumulative indirect taxes and heavy payroll contributions, have led to an accumulation of fiscal incentives aimed at reducing its burden on taxpayers and productive activities. Federal and subnational tax expenditures currently stand at over 5 percent of GDP. Rationalizing them can only be comprehensively feasible in the context of a broader sequenced tax reform, and could reduce resource misallocation and income inequality, as well as provide new revenues.

Download or read book Making It Big written by Andrea Ciani and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic and social progress requires a diverse ecosystem of firms that play complementary roles. Making It Big: Why Developing Countries Need More Large Firms constitutes one of the most up-to-date assessments of how large firms are created in low- and middle-income countries and their role in development. It argues that large firms advance a range of development objectives in ways that other firms do not: large firms are more likely to innovate, export, and offer training and are more likely to adopt international standards of quality, among other contributions. Their particularities are closely associated with productivity advantages and translate into improved outcomes not only for their owners but also for their workers and for smaller enterprises in their value chains. The challenge for economic development, however, is that production does not reach economic scale in low- and middle-income countries. Why are large firms scarcer in developing countries? Drawing on a rare set of data from public and private sources, as well as proprietary data from the International Finance Corporation and case studies, this book shows that large firms are often born large—or with the attributes of largeness. In other words, what is distinct about them is often in place from day one of their operations. To fill the “missing top†? of the firm-size distribution with additional large firms, governments should support the creation of such firms by opening markets to greater competition. In low-income countries, this objective can be achieved through simple policy reorientation, such as breaking oligopolies, removing unnecessary restrictions to international trade and investment, and establishing strong rules to prevent the abuse of market power. Governments should also strive to ensure that private actors have the skills, technology, intelligence, infrastructure, and finance they need to create large ventures. Additionally, they should actively work to spread the benefits from production at scale across the largest possible number of market participants. This book seeks to bring frontier thinking and evidence on the role and origins of large firms to a wide range of readers, including academics, development practitioners and policy makers.
