Book Fundamentals of Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Fundamentals of Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks written by Slawomir Stanczak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-29 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide tools for a better understanding of the fundamental tradeo?s and interdependencies in wireless networks, with the goal of designing resource allocation strategies that exploit these int- dependencies to achieve signi?cant performance gains. Two facts prompted us to write it: First, future wireless applications will require a fundamental understanding of the design principles and control mechanisms in wireless networks. Second, the complexity of the network problems simply precludes the use of engineering common sense alone to identify good solutions, and so mathematics becomes the key avenue to cope with central technical problems in the design of wireless networks. In this book, two ?elds of mathematics play a central role: Perron-Frobenius theory for non-negative matrices and optimization theory. This book is a revised and expanded version of the research monograph “Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks” that was published as Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences (LNCS 4000) in 2006. Although the general structure has remained unchanged to a large extent, the book contains - merous additional results and more detailed discussion. For instance, there is a more extensive treatment of general nonnegative matrices and interf- ence functions that are described by an axiomatic model. Additional material on max-min fairness, proportional fairness, utility-based power control with QoS (quality of service) support and stochastic power control has been added.

Book Resource Allocation in Next Generation Wireless Networks

Download or read book Resource Allocation in Next Generation Wireless Networks written by Wayne Li and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Next generation wireless and mobile communication systems are rapidly evolving to satisfy the demands of various network users. Due to the great success and enormous impact of IP networks, high-speed transmission is now possible for both indoor and outdoor wireless systems, internet access and web browsing have become the ruling paradigm for next generation system. It is envisioned that new generation wireless networks and hand-held terminals will support a wide variety of multimedia services such as multimedia web browsing, video and news on demand, mobile office system, stock market information, and so on, to mobile users anywhere, anytime in an uninterrupted and seamless way with low-powered handsets. The characteristics of wireless links, as well as the desire to maintain connectivity while on the move, offer significant challenges to provisioning quality of service and the related performance is of central interest. Since the resources (such as time, frequency and code) in the wireless segments of such networks are very limited, over-dimensioning the network resource is equivalent to poor capital investment, while congestion at busy hours could mean lost calls and lost revenues. It is therefore critical for wireless network designers to utilise these resources efficiently and effectively. In response to the above demand for next generation wireless and mobile communication systems, this book aims at providing a timely and concise reference of the current activities and findings in the relevant technical fields. The primary goal is to address the key technical issues pertaining to the integrated new systems and present novel technical contributions. The book contains 14 invited chapters from prominent researchers working in this area around the world.

Book Optimization Techniques in Resource Allocation of Wireless Communication Systems

Download or read book Optimization Techniques in Resource Allocation of Wireless Communication Systems written by K. Sumathi and published by Grin Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2016 in the subject Engineering - Communication Technology, Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, language: English, abstract: The future Wireless Communication Systems (WCS) are supposed to provide high data rate to support personal and multimedia communications irrespective of the users' mobility and location. These services include heterogeneous classes of traffics such as voice, file transfer, web browsing, wireless multimedia, teleconferencing, and interactive games. In recent years, data and multimedia services have become important in wireless communications. As a result, bandwidth requirement and number of users become delicate problems. To support high data rate requirement for future WCS, it is essential to efficiently allocate the limited resources. The major challenges are the dynamic nature of wireless channel, limited resources such as power, frequency spectrum, and diversified Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a special case of multicarrier transmission that supports high data rate operation. OFDM is a modulation and multiplexing technique appropriate for current and future wireless networks. OFDM divides the available bandwidth into a number of parallel independent orthogonal subchannels and their bandwidth is much less than the coherence bandwidth of the channel. The wide band frequency selective fading channel is converted into several narrow band flat fading channels. OFDM is an excellent method to overcome multipath fading effects. One of the goals of WCS is to enhance the capacity of the channel. Multiple Access Technique (MAT) permits several mobile users to share the given bandwidth in an effective way. Basically there are four multiple access techniques available namely, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Frequency Division Multiple access (FDMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA). MAT is employ

Book Resource Management for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

Download or read book Resource Management for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks written by Amila Tharaperiya Gamage and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-18 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth discussion on how to efficiently manage resources of heterogeneous wireless networks and how to design resource allocation algorithms to suit real world conditions. Efficiently managing resources of the networks is more crucial now, than ever before, to meet users’ rapidly increasing demand for higher data rates, better quality-of-service (QoS) and seamless coverage. Some of the techniques that can be incorporated within heterogeneous wireless networks to achieve this objective are interworking of the networks, user multi-homing and device-to-device (D2D) communication. Designing resource allocation algorithms to suit real world conditions is also important, as the algorithms should be deployable and perform well in real networks. For example, two of the conditions considered in this book are resource allocation intervals of different networks are different and small cell base stations have limited computational capacity. To address the first condition, resource allocation algorithms for interworking systems are designed to allocate resources of different networks at different time-scales. To address the second condition, resource allocation algorithms are designed to be able to run at cloud computing servers. More of such conditions, algorithms designed to suit these conditions, modeling techniques for various networks and performance analysis of the algorithms are discussed in the book. This book concludes with a discussion on the future research directions on the related fields of study. Advanced-level students focused on communication and networking will use this book as a study guide. Researchers and experts in the fields of networking, converged networks, small-cell networks, resource management, and interference management, as well as consultants working in network planning and optimization and managers, executives and network architects working in the networking industry will also find this book useful as a reference.

Book Resource Allocation and Performance Analysis for Next Generation Wireless Communication and Radio Astronomy Systems

Download or read book Resource Allocation and Performance Analysis for Next Generation Wireless Communication and Radio Astronomy Systems written by Dong Han and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radio spectrum is a limited resource for both scientific research and wireless communications industry. The usage of spectrum can be either active, e.g., wireless data transmission and radar detection, or passive, e.g., radio astronomy observation. However, with the rapid growth of active communication and passive signal receiving demand, more efficient and flexible utilization of spectrum is vital. On the other hand, achieving a high power efficiency is also important to signal transmission and detection. This dissertation devotes to developing machine-type communication systems and distributed radio astronomy systems with limited spectrum and power resources. For a radio resource limited multi-tier Machine-type Communication (MTC) network, controlling random access congestion while satisfying the unique requirements of each tier and guaranteeing fairness among nodes is always a challenge. In the first part, we study the network dimensioning and radio resource partitioning for the uplink of an MTC network with signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based clustering and relaying, where MTC gateways (MTCGs) capture and forward the packets sent from MTC devices (MTCDs) to the base station (BS). Specifically, under transmission outage probability constraints, we investigate the tradeoff between network utility (in terms of transmission capacity and revenue) and resource allocation fairness. With both outage probability constraints and minimum MTCD density constraints, we propose approaches to maximize the weighted sum of quality of experience (QoE) of different tiers of MTCDs. Furthermore, a transmit power control strategy for MTCG-to-BS link is proposed to achieve a constant data rate. In the second part of this dissertation, we consider a new large-scale communication scheme where randomly distributed backscatter nodes are involved as secondary users to primary transmitter and primary receiver pairs. The secondary communication between a backscatter transmitter and a backscatter receiver introduces additional double fading channels and has a two-side effect to the primary communications. We derive the signal-to-interferenceplus-noise ratio and signal-to-interference ratio based coverage probabilities for two network configuration scenarios, which can provide useful insights in designing such systems. A conflict of the spectrum rights and needs between active wireless communication systems and passive radio astronomy systems (RASs) has become substantially greater due to the phenomenal expansion of wireless communications and increased interest in RAS observation. For sustainable growth and coexistence of cellular wireless communications (CWC) and RAS, a coordinated shared spectrum access paradigm was recently introduced. Embracing such a paradigm, the third part of this dissertation proposes a distributed auxiliary radio telescope (DART) system which can geographically and spectrally coexist with CWC while offering additional capability or performance enhancement to RAS. Theoretical performance analysis of the DART system with different quantization resolutions is presented, and approximate closed-form expressions are obtained. Adaptation of the cooling power of DART receivers according to the time-varying ambient temperature is also proposed. Furthermore, an analytical expression for the DART system parameters under the shared spectrum access paradigm and cooling power constraint to achieve the same performance as the existing single-dish RAS with a radio quiet zone is developed to provide guidance in the DART sysvii tem design. The numerical and simulation results illustrate the feasibility and potentials of the proposed DART system.

Book Capacity Analysis of Vehicular Communication Networks

Download or read book Capacity Analysis of Vehicular Communication Networks written by Ning Lu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-21 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SpringerBrief focuses on the network capacity analysis of VANETs, a key topic as fundamental guidance on design and deployment of VANETs is very limited. Moreover, unique characteristics of VANETs impose distinguished challenges on such an investigation. This SpringerBrief first introduces capacity scaling laws for wireless networks and briefly reviews the prior arts in deriving the capacity of VANETs. It then studies the unicast capacity considering the socialized mobility model of VANETs. With vehicles communicating based on a two-hop relaying scheme, the unicast capacity bound is derived and can be applied to predict the throughput of real-world scenarios of VANETs. The downlink capacity of VANETs is also investigated in which access infrastructure is deployed to provide pervasive Internet access to vehicles. Different alternatives of wireless access infrastructure are considered. A lower bound of downlink capacity is derived for each type of access infrastructure. The last section of this book presents a case study based on a perfect city grid to examine the capacity-cost trade-offs of different deployments since the deployment costs of different access infrastructure are highly variable.

Book Resource Allocation and Cross layer Control in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Resource Allocation and Cross layer Control in Wireless Networks written by Leonidas Georgiadis and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2006 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information flow in a telecommunication network is accomplished through the interaction of mechanisms at various design layers with the end goal of supporting the information exchange needs of the applications. In wireless networks in particular, the different layers interact in a nontrivial manner in order to support information transfer. In this text we will present abstract models that capture the cross-layer interaction from the physical to transport layer in wireless network architectures including cellular, ad-hoc and sensor networks as well as hybrid wireless-wireline. The model allows for arbitrary network topologies as well as traffic forwarding modes, including datagrams and virtual circuits. Furthermore the time varying nature of a wireless network, due either to fading channels or to changing connectivity due to mobility, is adequately captured in our model to allow for state dependent network control policies. Quantitative performance measures that capture the quality of service requirements in these systems depending on the supported applications are discussed, including throughput maximization, energy consumption minimization, rate utility function maximization as well as general performance functionals. Cross-layer control algorithms with optimal or suboptimal performance with respect to the above measures are presented and analyzed. A detailed exposition of the related analysis and design techniques is provided.

This book was released on 2018-07-30 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the latest research and development of new technologies for cognitive radio, mobile communications, and wireless networks. The contributors discuss the research and requirement analysis and initial standardization work towards 5G cellular systems and the capacity problems it presents. They show how cognitive radio, with the capability to flexibly adapt its parameters, has been proposed as the enabling technology for unlicensed secondary users to dynamically access the licensed spectrum owned by legacy primary users on a negotiated or an opportunistic basis. They go on to show how cognitive radio is now perceived in a much broader paradigm that will contribute to solve the resource allocation problem that 5G requirements raise. The chapters represent hand-selected expanded papers from EAI sponsored and hosted conferences such as the 12th EAI International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems, the 11th EAI International Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness, the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, the 8th International Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications, and the EAI International Conference on Software Defined Wireless Networks and Cognitive Technologies for IoT.

Book Resource Allocation and Capacity in Wireless Communications and Networks

Download or read book Resource Allocation and Capacity in Wireless Communications and Networks written by Zikai Wang (Ph.D.) and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to allocate resources in the era of Big Data in telecommunications becomes a new issue. Smartphone data could be a function of personality, as the smartphone supports interpersonal interaction, and the data collected from the smartphone usage often contains rich customer opinion and behavioral information. A bandwidth allocation method based on smartphone users' personality traits and channel condition is studied in a unified mathematical framework in this dissertation. Personalizing bandwidth allocation could be done by analyzing smartphone users' personality traits, resulting in business intelligence, a smarter and more efficient usage of the limited bandwidth, while taking channel fading conditions into account. Using the diagnostic inference, the service provider could calculate user's probability of having each personality trait stand on its data usage. One step further, its bandwidth usage of the following period can be predicted using predictive inference. For our proposed bandwidth allocation scheme, both the outage capacity and outage probability are studied in fading channel. Therefore, service providers shall better allocate the limited bandwidth, provide more personal service to each user, and adjust the bandwidth allocation further on account of the real channel condition. How much information can be transported, i.e., the transmission rate, is another subject of great interest in hybrid wireless networks. The main focus of this paper is the effect of channel fading in hybrid wireless network, in which a wired network of base stations is deployed to support long-range communications between wireless nodes. Two types of transmission mode in hybrid wireless network, i.e., intra-cell mode and infrastructure mode, are considered. To effectively overcome fading impairment, optimal multiple access technique is applied, allowing opportunistic sources to transmit concurrently with the scheduled source. Those different sources, much like in wideband CDMA system, share the entire bandwidth. A successive interference cancellation (SIC) strategy is then introduced at receiver side to limit the intra-cell interference and achieve the maximum capacity. Meanwhile, frequency reuse scheme is employed to minimize the inter-cell interference. Since the outage capacity over different fading channels will exhibit different asymptotic behaviors, in this dissertation we examine the Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami-m models, which are the most commonly used fading models. Close-form solutions for outage throughput capacity at high signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SNIR) are derived. It is showed that, with opportunistic sources, the intra-cell mode effectively combats fading as wireless nodes increases; however, the infrastructure mode is bottlenecked by the downlink transmission since base station is the only transmitter in the cell during the down link phase. The theoretical bounds obtained and proofs are instrumental to the future network modeling and design. Array signal processing plays an important role in many areas. Besides the Uniform Linear Array, their are many sparse array that have been proposed, for example, Minimum re dundancy array, Co-prime array, nested array, etc. However, most of the array structures have certain disadvantages. A new type of non-linear sparse sensor array called sparse convolutional array is illustrated which can reduce the number of physical sensors while remain a decent performance in DOA estimation. The sparse convolutional array contains three groups of physical sensors and is able to form a hole-free difference co-array. By adding sensors on two sides instead of the center, the proposed array shows improved performance compares to some other approaches while reminds few physical sensors. The array geometrical structure is illustrated and the numerical result is provided. We also extended this array structure to two dimension case and the performance is illustrated. Automatic modulation classification (AMC) is a fundamental process in wireless communication. In our work, we proposed a Convolutional neural network based Automatic Modulation Classification (AMC) over Rician Fading Channel. We constructed a system to simulate the received modulated samples through Rician fading channel. 6 commonly used modulation methods are considered, including BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK, 4-PAM, 16-QAM and 64-QAM. The scheme of proposed convolutional neural network classifier is illustrated, and the neural network is trained with the generated samples and the classification accuracy is demonstrated. The classification accuracy of different mod methods are shown, respectively. And accuracies among different K-factor and maximum Doppler are investigated. Finally, we demonstrated the bit error rate of the system assume a successive modulation detection.
