Book excerpt: The unprecedented growth in natural gas production, led by the US eastern shale basins of Marcellus and Utica shales, has changed the North American gas flows and has pushed Canadian gas exports out of the markets that traditionally-sourced western Canadian gas. [...] The first discusses the current state of Canadian gas supply and demand while the second reviews the current state of gas supply and demand in the US. [...] Canadian Natural Gas Production Canada is an important player in natural gas production and is one of the largest natural gas producers in the world. [...] British Columbia's wealth of emerging sources of shale and tight gas are changing the dynamics of Canadian supply, accounting for 35 percent of Canada's natural gas resources, of which 90 percent is found in the Montney Shale and the Horn River Basin.17 The former is a tight gas play while the latter is a shale gas play. [...] While conventional gas production is decreasing, the importance of tight gas and shale gas in Canada and the US cannot be understated.

Book Natural Gas Market Assessment

Download or read book Natural Gas Market Assessment written by Canada. National Energy Board and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excess productive capacity has gradually decreased in the natural gas market. This report provides information and the Board's observations on these changed conditions and then looks ahead to examine the prospects for gas supply over the period 1993 to 1996. The analysis and outlook are directed to both peak day and annual gas supply. A historical review of gas supply over 10 years is provided, including observations on the excess of deliverability over production, changes in remaining reserves, the trend in reserves-to-production ratios, trends in production, connection rates, gas storage, the response of Alberta supply in peak demand periods and recent developments. The Baord's methodology for estimating productive capacity is described and the results of the Board's analysis of Western Canada's productive capacity are presented and compared with other deliverability studies. A summary of the current and anticipated pipeline capacity in the producing provinces is presented and estimates for productive capacity are compared with pipeline capacity. Observations on factors influencing the interpretation of results conclude the document.
