Book Canada and the International Market Structure for Petroleum Products

Download or read book Canada and the International Market Structure for Petroleum Products written by A. Robert Fraser and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oil industry is more international than any other: petroleum is the biggest item in world trade, both by value and by volume. The purpose of this thesis is to determine whether or not Canadian crude oil can be competitive on an international basis given the existing structure and pricing mechanism of the oil industry today. In an endeavour to project whether or not Canadian crude oil could successfully enter the international scene, an analysis of who controls production, refining and marketing in various selected countries and a review of the pricing mechanism was made. Special treatment was given to Japan throughout the thesis. It was found in this investigation that Canada must discount her posted price by some 46 per cent to be competitive with Japan's principal supply base, namely the Persian Gulf. In regards to Canadian oil being competitive with oil laid-down in Japan from Venezuela, a discount of 27 per cent was required. Furthermore, it was found that a discount of 41 per cent was needed to gain about 7 per cent of the Japanese market. Given these sizable discounts, the prospects of marketing Canadian crude oil on an international basis does not appear to be all that favourable.

In addition, the book explores how to price energy products and other commodities belonging to markets segmented across specific structural features. The Handbook of Multi-Commodity Markets and Products includes a wealth of proven methods and useful models that can be selected and developed in order to make appropriate estimations of the future evolution of prices and appropriate valuations of products. Book Taxation of Petroleum Products

Download or read book Taxation of Petroleum Products written by Mrs.Poonam Gupta and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1994-03-01 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The domestic taxation of petroleum products is an important source of revenue in most countries. However, there is a wide variation of tax rates on petroleum products across countries, which cannot be explained by economic theory alone. This paper surveys different considerations advanced for taxing petroleum and presents petroleum tax rate data in 120 countries. It concludes that a significant reduction in the present extremely wide variation in petroleum prices and tax rates appears warranted.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference brought together an international group of fisheries economists from academia, business, government, and inter-governmentalagencies, to consider a coordinated project to build an econometric model of the world trade in groundfish. A number of the conference participants had just spent up to six weeks at Memorial University of Newfoundland working and preparing papers on the project. This volume presents the papers that these scholars produced, plus additional papers prepared by other conference participants. In addition, various lectures and discussionswhich were transcribed from tapes made of the proceedings are included. The introductory essay explains the genesis of the conference, describes the approach taken to modelling the groundfish trade, very briefly summarizes the technical papers, and describes future plans. The project is continuing as planned, and a second conference was held in St. John's in August 1990. The conference was a NATO Advanced Research Workshop and we wish to thank the ScientificAffairs Division ofNATO for their financial support. Additional financial support was received from the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation in St. John's, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans of the Government of Canada, the Department of Fisheries of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Air Nova; we acknowledge with appreciation their help.

Book Canada s Oil Monopoly

Download or read book Canada s Oil Monopoly written by James Lorimer and published by Lorimer. This book was released on 1981 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the highlights of a 1,700 page government report on Imperial Oil, Gulf, Texaco, Shell, and other oil company operations in Canada from 1958 to 1973 - compiled from the more than 135,000 secret oil company documents that were seized by the government investigators in raids between 1973 and 1978. Taking eight years to piece together this startling picture of the inner workings of the powerful oil industry, the findings were submitted in a 1981 report on The State of Competition in the Canadian Petroleum Industry - and were immediately ordered to be made public by the Restrictive Trade Practices Commission.
