Book Campbellism Revealed Or Salvation by Faith Versus Salvation by Water Classic Reprint

Download or read book Campbellism Revealed Or Salvation by Faith Versus Salvation by Water Classic Reprint written by G. W. Pool and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-27 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Campbellism Revealed, or Salvation by Faith Versus Salvation by Water Quotations from the Christian System have been placed at the beginning of the most of the chapters, in order that the reader might have the privilege of examining for himself the teachings of Campbellism as set forth in the language of its author, and that there might be no possibility of accusing me of misrepresentation. I do not wish to be misunderstood. I be lieve that there are some of these people who have risen above this system, and are Christians in spite of the doctrines they hold; for these I have the utmost respect, but I have no respect, what ever, for the doctrines themselves. Other books have been freely consulted in the preparation of these pages. All of those from which I have received aid can not be mentioned here, except in this general way, but I am especially indebted to the learned author of Errors of Campbellism. Book Salvation From Sin the End of Christian Faith Classic Reprint

Download or read book Salvation From Sin the End of Christian Faith Classic Reprint written by John Humphrey Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Salvation From Sin, the End of Christian Faith In denying that the Old Testament saints were born of God, we must not be understood as denying that they had any religion. It appears by the passage above quoted, that there are two dis tinct stages in religious experience, in the first of which men may properly be called servants of God, while yet they are not sons. It is important that this distinction should be clearly seen, and constantly kept in view. We admit, and teach, that the Old Testament saints were servants of God in the ages before Christ, and that they became sons at his coming. But what is the difference between servants and sons? Did not the Old Testament saints love God Yes and so many servants love and honor their masters, while yet there is no vital union, no blood-relationship between them. So there was no vital union between God and man, till Christ came in the flesh. Abraham was called the friend of God, and he doubtless loved God as a man loves his friend but it is not said in scripture, and it is not true, that Christ was in him that he dwelt in God, and God in him. This spiritual indwelling was hid from ages and from generations, and was manifested only after the mission of Christ. Col. 1 26, 27. It is this that brings men into blood-relationship to God, so that they are entitled to the name of sons of God. But when they knew God, they glorified him not as God. The idea of a Spiritual Being, to whom they could have no access through the medium of external sense, did not suit their depraved minds. Hence, forgetting that God, whom they could not see, they adored the sun, moon, and stars, and creeping reptiles, and images, which they could see and feel.' Book The Great Salvation Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Great Salvation Classic Reprint written by Ely V. Zollars and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Salvation 1. Every institution, whether secular or religious, has certain fundamental principles that determine its character, and out of which everything connected with it of a practical nature naturally and necessarily springs. In order to a clear and comprehensive view of the system, it is of the utmost importance to obtain a proper understanding of its great elementary fundamental principles. These truths find strong confirmation when applied to the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to a clear understanding of its character, and an adequate conception of its practical applications and possible blessings, a knowledge of certain fundamental matters called "First Principles" is imperative. It is the purpose of this volume to give, not, perhaps, an exhaustive, but a somewhat comprehensive, view of The First Principles of the Gospel of Christ, beginning with a consideration of the recognized moral malady of sin, thence passing onward to a study of the divine remedy as revealed in the gospel, thus tracing the path in the progress of the soul from the state of depravity even unto the blessed consummation of a perfect character; or, in other words, considering the steps in the journey of man from the "Paradise Lost" to the "Paradise Regained." 2. This discussion, as has already been intimated, can not be exhaustive. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Extent of Salvation: A Treatise Showing the Compatibility of a State of Punishment Beyond the Grave With Universal Salvation The design of this volume is to show forth the consistency of scripture truth. Although it will be found to conflict with the va rious systems of theology generally received in our day, yet it is hoped, that this fact will not influence the judgment of the Church for or against its merits, until they have been carefully and prayer fully considered. One of the deadliest shafts of infidelity against the inspiration of the volume of Divine truth, is wielded under the assumption, that it contradicts itself and against Christianity in general; that its advocates are so divided in sentiment and belief, even on those doctrines which are considered as essential to vita]. Religion. Although the inspiration of the sacred scriptures has been fully attested by noble champions in the Church of Christ; yet it cannot be denied, that infidelity has had, for reasons above inti mated, the power, not only of weakening the Church Within, but also of greatly retarding the missionary of the cross in his efforts to tell of a Saviour's love to a world lying in wickedness. If what is set forth in this volume is a true exposition of the word of God; it will be found that doctrines, apparently conflicting, when rightly viewed, perfectly harmonise - It will take from the hand of infl delity that weapon which has done more evil in these latter times, than all other instrumentalities of Satan. It will have a tendency to promote such an alliance among the saints of the Most High, as will be truly formidable against every thing that opposeth and exalteth itself, in opposition to Truth. Book Baptism in the New Testament

Download or read book Baptism in the New Testament written by G. R. Beasley-Murray and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptism In The New Testament In this thorough and well-documented study of the sacrament of Holy Baptism, G.R. Beasley-Murray presents a critical defense of the doctrine of believers' baptism on the basis of the New Testament evidences. The author--one of the leading New Testament scholars in England--is himself a Baptist; but his discussion transcends denominatioal lines. Beasley-Murray begins by discussing various rites that precede Christian baptism historically, and analyzes the relationship between these earlier rites and baptism. From these antecedents--Old Testament ritual washings, Jewish proselyte baptism, the lustrations practiced at Qumran, and the baptism of John the Baptist--the author proceeds to the foundations of Christian baptism in the career of Jesus, its emergence as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, and its development in the New Testament epistolary literature. In his consideration of the doctrine of Christian baptism as ariculated in the New Testament, Beasley-Murray focuses his attention on the necessity of baptism and its relationship to grace, faith, the Spirit, the church, ethics, and hope. A careful examination of the rise and significance of infant baptism follows, and the study concludes with a selected bibliography and several indices.
