Download or read book The Phonetic Guide to Italian written by Matthew Lawry and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-07-27 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about learning the phrases and sentences and getting to grips with saying the language without going into the grammar first. In that way, you can have fun learning how to say certain things and also you do not come up against stumbling blocks and frustrations. The idea behind this thinking was because when I was a child, my parents used to tell me words before they taught me how to learn the alphabet, so I thought that was a better way round: get used to the language first. I wrote this book to how I thought the student of the language could assimilate and understand it and get a basic grounding of the language. I thought to myself, what was the best thing to learn first, for instance; what the differences between masculine and feminine are; what does the accent mean, so I put this information in the chapter header pages so then I could use more space to actually learn the language. I have also put in a conceptual stage, so then you can think about the language for instance. English has quite a few routes to it, like Latin, so quite a few words are very similar, even though the accent can throw us off. It sounds like proper English for instance: disgraceful, which means scandaloso in Italian, which is nearly the same in English. I believe there is no right or wrong way to learn; it depends on what you want it for. You may want to practise it on holidays, or you may want to read the Italian newspapers, so sometimes you do not necessarily have to learn the alphabet or the grammar. I like to read newspapers on holidays and watch films in Italian; that is why I wanted to learn it. It can also be useful in attaining knowledge for quizzes. The only good criticism is a constructive one, not a destructive one. Matthew Lawry. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have in writing it.

Download or read book A Guide to Italian Language and Culture for English Speaking Learners of Italian written by Barbara Gabriella Renzi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Italian textbook is divided into two parts. The first consists of texts and dialogues, which help the reader to have fun while learning Italian. This section is also peppered with grammar lessons. The second part uses a number of photos, which encourage students to speak about what they see. Its topics are culturally interesting, and include cities to visit, recipes and small biographies of famous Italian poets and writers. As such, the book is suitable for students who are at beginner and post-beginner levels; in other words, A1, A2, B1, and B2. Students of the latter level can use the first two parts of the book to revise what they have studied in the past and the third part to improve their vocabulary and their reading skills. One of the strengths of this book is in its recordings, which used several people with a range of different accents. Such variety of accents and voices represents a good training tool for the student of Italian. The book also includes contributions from Michela Dettori, Michela Esposito, Elsa Musacchio, Davide Renzi, Lea De Negri, Denise Pellini, Maria Andreana Deiana, Lia Renzi, Clara Lucci and Flavia Rovella, which serve to make it unique and interesting.

Download or read book Errans written by Christoph F. E. Holzhey and published by ICI Berlin Press. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s critical discourses and theorizing vanguards agree on the importance of getting lost, of failure, of erring — as do life coaches and business gurus. The taste for a departure from progress and other teleologies, the fascination with disorder, unfocused modes of attention, or improvisational performances cut across wide swaths of scholarly and activist discourses, practices in the arts, but also in business, warfare, and politics. Yet often the laudible failures are only those that are redeemed by subsequent successes. What could it mean to think errancy beyond such restrictions? And what would a radical critique of productivity, success, and fixed determination look like that doesn’t collapse into the infamous ‘I would prefer not to’? This volume looks for an answer in the complicated word field branching and stretching from the Latin errāre. Its contributions explore the implications of embracing error, randomness, failure, non-teleological temporalities across different disciplines, discourses, and practices, with critical attention to the ambivalences such an impossible embrace generates.
