Book CALORIMETRIC MEASUREMENT OF FLUORESCENCE YIELD

Download or read book CALORIMETRIC MEASUREMENT OF FLUORESCENCE YIELD written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for measuring fluorescence yield of solutions is described, through which the heating resulting from absorbed light in fluorescing and nonfluorescing solutions is compared. Determination of the yield is based on the fact that for the same absorption in a nonfluorescing solution all the absorbed light energy is converted into beat, and the heating of the fluorescing solutions takes place by means of that portion of the energy of the absorbed light which is not emitted in the form of fluorescence. Results of fluorescence yield measurements are presented for several solutions of dyes. The precision of measurements for substances with yields close to unity is of the order of 5 percent.

Book Calorimetry

    Book Details:
  • Author : R. Wigmans
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2000
  • ISBN : 9780198502968
  • Pages : 732 pages

Download or read book Calorimetry written by R. Wigmans and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle physics is the science that pursues the age-old quest for the innermost structure of matter and the fundamental interactions between its constituents. Modern experiments in this field rely increasingly on calorimetry, a detection techniques in which the particles of interest are absorbed in the detector. Calorimeters are very intricate instruments, their performance characteristics depend in subtle, sometimes counter-intuitive ways on design details. This book, written by one of the world's foremost experts, is the first comprehensive text on this topic. It provides a fundamental and systematic introduction, in which many intriguing calorimeter features are explained. It also describes the state of the art, both for what concerns the fundamental understanding of calorimetric particle detection and the actual detectors that have been or are being built and operated in experiments. In the last chapter, some landmark scientific discoveries in which calorimetry has played an important role are discussed. This book summarizes and puts into perspective work described in some 600 scientific papers, listed in the bibliography.

Book Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry

Download or read book Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry written by Joseph D Menczel and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is the most important thermal analysis technique used today and the most common thermal analysis instrument found in chemical characterization laboratories. DSC has become an everyday tool in characterization laboratories, but many researchers using this technique have a limited understanding of the true breadth of its capabilities. Up to now, there has been no book that would describe the application of DSC in all the various areas of materials chemistry. The Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry has been written to fill that void. This book is designed to summarize the knowledge of differential scanning calorimetry so that materials researchers and application chemists are given both a better understanding of techniques , as well as a review of the full scope of its capabilities. It also discusses how to properly interpret the DSC thermograms data obtained. Included in this work is the most up-to-date information written by some of the leaders in the field. It is written not only to help users get the most out of their equipment, After reading this book, people in all chemical and biological areas will have a broad overview of this measuring technique, and will be able to utilize this analytical technique more efficiently. - Provides a detail description of the theory behind differential scanning while simultaneously providing a wider breadth of understanding of the actual DSC technique - Includes a review of the basics of heat flux and power compensation DSC's, as well as separate chapters on inorganic and organic materials - Reviews the most common commercial DSC instruments on the market and their uses, including TA Instruments, Perkin-Elmer, Hitachi, Mettler Toledo, Netzsch, and Setaram
