Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right before she died, your mother called me on the phone and told me that there were some things I needed to know. She told me all this on a Monday.. I got the call on Thursday that your mother had passed away.' Until finding out that he would be receiving an inheritance upon his father's death, Jessie Walker's life had been fairly norma-except for the untimely passing of his mom when he was a child. But with the inheritance from his father comes an unsettling, possibly sinister discovery. Had his mom really passed away from an illness, as he'd been told, or was the real reason something much, much worse? Secret of Graveyard Hill is fiction, but it's based on one grain of truth in author James Hibbitts's life: He doesn't know the true cause of his mother's death. He and Joe Roberts have written this novel in an attempt to help him sort through his pain and to possibly find some answers.

Download or read book Odyssey of Texas Ranger James Callahan The written by Joseph Luther and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2017 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Callahan entered Texas armed, a quixotic young man enlisted in the Georgia Battalion for the cause of independence. He barely survived the 1836 Battle of Refugio and the Goliad Massacre. Undaunted by the perils of his adopted home, he remained in the line of fire for the next twenty-one years, fighting to protect Texas settlers from Apaches, Comanches, Seminoles, Kickapoos, outlaws, mavericks and the Mexican army. As a Texas Ranger, he rode with the legendary men of Seguin and San Antonio. In 1855, he commanded the punitive expedition into Mexico that bears his name, a fiasco that has been shrouded by mystery and shadowed by controversy ever since. In this first-ever biography, Joseph Luther traces the tragic course of the wayfarer who crossed so much of the Texas frontier and created so much of its story.

Download or read book Cemeteries of Unicoi Country written by Unicoi County Historical Society and published by The Overmountain Press. This book was released on 1992-08 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This labor of love began as one of the first major projects of the newly-formed Unicoi County Historical Society in the early 1970s. By 1973, about 35 cemeteries, all in the northern part of the county, had been copied. Fifteen years went by, and then, in the winter of 1987–1988, a new committee was formed and the project was begun again. The committee found that in 1960, 15 cemeteries, mostly in the southern part of the county, had been copied, adding up to a total of 50 cemeteries that had been recorded. Final copying began in April 1988 and was completed a little over a year later. The total of 166 copied included an update of the 50 cemeteries done earlier.

Download or read book The Glove written by James LeClair and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up as 'Irish twins,' Harold and Ernie Callahan often found it quite difficult to play on opposing teams. Luckily for them, as well as for the town of Johnsonville, their talents joined together as teammates and brothers for the Johnsonville Knights High School baseball team. With the championship hopes riding on their efforts, will the Callahan's and the boys of Johnsonville triumph? And when bigger challenges arrive, will the bond of brotherhood continue in the face of war? The story of The Glove is as familiar as a baseball game or fire crackers on the Fourth of July. Harold, Ernie, Big Carl, and the rest of the gang are the people you played ball with—and the people you grew up with. You may know them by different names, but you do know them. Follow along as author James LeClair weaves this classical American tale of growing up, making sacrifices, and always running out ground balls.
