She’s attempting to find out what actually happened to her papa David Winchester Darby, in the Fall of 1893. Was he mauled to death by a Grizzly bear in the mountains of western Massachusetts as they’ve been told, or, as she was told by a strange, smelly little man from Saddle Ball Mountain four years later, was he shot in the back of his head, near his hunting cabin up in the mountains. Martha uses the five W’s – Who; What; Where; When; and Why, in her pursuit of the truth. Martha’s Dilemma is written in the Epistolary style, using diary entries and letters to and from home. As you read of her adventures, you’ll feel as though you’ve been by her side for the entire journey . . . and you’ll be stunned by what she discovers.
Download or read book A Cause to Kill For written by Eric Jackson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-09-01 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A CAUSE TO KILL FOR a novel by Eric Jackson SYNOPSIS: When the United States discovers oil deposits off the southern coast of Puerto Rico, the U.S. President and Congress move to grant statehood to the island, a U.S. possession since 1898. During a plebiscite to choose between statehood, free association or independence, leftist terrorists kidnap the First Lady of Puerto Rico to force Puerto Ricos governor to cancel the vote, thus jeopardizing the national interests of the United States. Powerful political interests brutally clash with common human instincts, as Puerto Ricans decide their political future. Elison Cruz is the current governor of Puerto Rico and the top leader of the pro-statehood forces. Rigonaldo Pastrana is the fugitive comandante of September Twenty-third, a separatist organization committed to stopping Cruz from bringing statehood to Puerto Rico. In a campaign of terror, September Twenty-third attempts to assassinate Governor Cruz. When the attempt fails, they kidnap his wife, First Lady Ana Mara Cruz, and threaten to kill her if the governor doesnt cancel the plebiscite. In the Puerto Rican Senate, the terrorists have found a voice in Senator Orlando Tonos, an outspoken advocate of independence who has called for a boycott of the plebiscite. He has put himself at odds with the moderate leadership of the Independence Party, which is eagerly supporting the historic vote. Tonos calls Rigonaldo a patriot and refuses to condemn the kidnapping of Ana Mara Cruz. William Montana, the Assistant Director in Charge of the F.B.I. in Puerto Rico, has a crisis on his hands: he must arrest Rigonaldo Pastrana and rescue the First Lady of Puerto Rico. Its not an easy task. An insider is cooperating with the terrorists, he fears. Who can he or she be? A bomb explodes on a crowded street in Old San Juan. September Twenty-third has set a deadline. They are running out of time. Rigonaldo will kill the First Lady if his demands are not met. Montana has to act. In a bold attempt to pressure Rigonaldo to release the First Lady, Montana orchestrates a kidnapping of his own: Barbara Tonos, the prominent wife of Senator Tonos. Meanwhile, Karen Perez, an audacious TV reporter, interviews Rigonaldo in his hideout, sees the First Lady, and airs the encounter on prime time TV. The footage of the battered First Lady, shaken, scared, blindfolded and tied to a chair like an animal in captivity, shatters the country. And so ensues a battle of wills and conflicting ends. A quixotic race against time. As Puerto Ricans prepare to vote on their future, Governor Cruz wonders in terror if he will see his wife alive again. BOOK OVERVIEW Is it fair to say that almost every Puerto Rican living on the island of Puerto Rico or abroad has an opinion on the decades-old political status controversy? Puerto Ricans face several choices in this explosive debate: statehood, independence, free association and commonwealth. No matter which side you may take on the political status issue, you are set to enjoy the novel, A Cause to Kill For. A novel in the thriller genre that explores the status issue as the backdrop for an exciting and entertaining read. What would be the implications for Puerto Rico and the United States if huge oil deposits were found on the island? How far would the U.S. go to secure Puerto Ricos oil deposits? Would your views on the political status of the island change if you knew that Puerto Rico could be an oil-producing state? In A Cause to Kill For, the United States knows there is oi
Download or read book Reveal Release Renew written by Ashley J. Lauren and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveal, Release, Renew was written in my wholeness and my truth, centered around my personal experience growing up in what society acknowledges as a "broken home!" I speak on my life's experience, which is very personal to me! I choose to give blow-for-blow details regarding these situations in hopes it helps rescue or bring awareness and acknowledgment to what is not considered in most families as toxic and/or destructive things happening to young people! I focused on my experience in each situation, and I'm giving my audience some foundation as to why I am who I am! I speak about my viewpoint on where I lived as a child and how often being unstable affected me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I expose how I fell into certain pits as a youth due to my toxic way of thinking which was caused by major traumas I experience as a child, traumas such as different forms of child abuse and sexual abuse. I share in detail my experience with sexual predators and how the Lord helped me to escape that situation. I give some spiritual insight on issues that I was faced to overcome. I give the full back story of where my trust issues began, and I also go into me experiencing a few of my spiritual gifts in early childhood. As I grew spiritually, I noticed these same issues often tend to show up in many young girls who grow up in broken homes. So I go into explaining the revelations I received regarding these traumas. Again, this book was written in hopes that other women can read it and gain understanding and insight into her own traumatic experiences in life. Possibly she can understand where she may need the Lord to help her overcome as well!
Download or read book They Called Me Kite written by Nancy Needham and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-06-16 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebellious Katie Darlene was the youngest of three children until her baby brother was born with a heart defect. The bright teenager tells her story of growing up in a military family during a time when boys are dying in Vietnam, men are landing on the moon for the first time and her father, a mess sergeant in the Air Force, is ordered to a remote mission to Alaska. They move to her fathers hometown in Texas to have access to a military hospital and to be near family. To complicate Kate's problems, her immediate family, led by a Yankee mother, is faced for the first time with Southernisms, especially involving race relations. The feisty Kate- which is pronounced Kite in a Texas accent- keeps readers captivated and cheering for her throughout. Her story recalls eighteen months in a town full of people who can't help but admire her but wish she'd hurry up and conform so she will become the precious young lady they all know she can be. Life with her is never dull as Kite shares intimate moments such as when she tries to shave her legs, learns how to deceitfully fill the top of her first formal, experiences her first kiss and discovers boys can be teased without any effort at all. She takes life as it comes and tries to make it bend to her will. This isn't easy for a person who is colorblind in a segregated town. Her story is something to be cherished and pondered. The book is full of emotion as she struggles through a time in the late sixties when the raging Vietnam war was taking away boys as soon as they turned eighteen and wasnt always sending them home. The blood, sweat and tears of the civil rights movement was flooding much of the country and causing enormous change. But it had made not a trickle into some small towns, including where Kite must live while her father is away. Kites life changes rapidly. She would have preferred her biggest worry be about how to wear her hair. But, she can't keep societal changes out of the context of her personal life. She cant just be a kid anymore, with a hula hoop and a bag of jax. The story begins with a forward explaining the workings of her family, opens a door into her personality and tells how Kite came to live in a small Texas town in 1968 where no one seemed to know about the Beatles or that racism was against the law. She is accepted in the town because she is kin to almost everyone. Her Texas kinfolk believe there is one Glory Child born into their family each generation that is destined for some kind of greatness. Kite seems to be the chosen one since she is beautiful, has a genius I.Q. and is very outspoken. Kite takes this Glory Child business all in stride, mostly because that is her personality and the title loses significance to her since her father was supposedly his generations Glory Child and she knew of nothing exceptional he ever did. Kite does appreciate being accepted and enjoys - as most teens would - fitting in as quickly as possible. Especially since her parents moved her into such a peculiar place where people speak slower and think unlike anyone shes met while growing up on multi-ethnic Air Force bases. The transition is not as easy for the rest of her family and her mother is somewhat of an outcast since she comes from a state that fought against the confederacy. A confusing point for Kite who thought the war between the states was over except for its historical relevance. The story moves quickly with something consequential occurring on each page as Kite and the town grow up together. The people are unusual but real. Kite is an honest soul and does not hold back as she moves the story along with her innocent and often self-centered insights into a complicated world when perspectives about women, race and other important issues were changing in a way that would affect generations to come.
