This book was released on 2024-08-14 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. While new chapters and topics have been added, the handbook still follows the systematic and structured approach of the first edition. Each contributor – all of them practitioners experienced with blockchain projects within their respective areas of expertise and specific jurisdictions – elucidates the implications of blockchain technology and related legal issues under such headings as the following: understanding blockchain from a technological point of view; regulatory aspects of blockchain; smart contracts; data privacy; capital markets; crypto asset regulation in Europe, the UK and the US; intellectual property; and antitrust law. The foundational chapter on the technical aspects of blockchain technology has been meticulously expanded to elucidate the proof of stake consensus mechanism alongside fresh insights into the ERC-721 Token Standard for non-fungible tokens, decentralized exchanges, staking, stablecoins, and central bank digital currencies. As blockchain law cements itself as a distinct legal field, this new edition is poised to be an invaluable asset for legal practitioners, in-house lawyers, IT professionals, consultancy firms, blockchain associations, and legal scholars. At a depth that allows non-IT experts to understand the groundwork for legal assessments, the handbook provides those charting the dynamic waters of this field of law with a compass, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle the legal issues raised by the usage of blockchain technology.

Book The Great Power Competition Volume 2

Download or read book The Great Power Competition Volume 2 written by Adib Farhadi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Region faced numerous obstacles to building a stable and prosperous future. The region, which encompasses the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, Central Asia, and South Asia, has been plagued by economic and political uncertainty amidst dramatic shifts in the global power structure. With the pandemic now exacerbating the volatility in this already fragile region, the U.S.'s strategic objectives are rife for re-examination. A complicated stew of factors such as weakening of established governance systems, the emboldening of extremist individuals and groups through advances in digital technology, the humanitarian crises in Afghanistan and Syria, and the intensification of the great power competition with China and Russia are creating a fertile environment for the growth of violent extremist organizations (VEOs). Such organizations take advantage of vulnerable, aggrieved, and traumatized populations to fuel radicalization, recruitment, and unrest, which further undermine stability and the potential for peace and prosperity. While it is still early to fully understand how the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic will impact U.S. policy, this book provides a timely analysis of relevant dynamics such as popular radicalization, digital information ecosystems, networks of influence, and new capabilities to recognize and prepare for other such black swan events in the region.

Book Small and Medium Enterprises Law and Business

Download or read book Small and Medium Enterprises Law and Business written by Jan Winczorek and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The law plays an ambiguous role in running business. While legal tools can be used to tame uncertainties, for example, by concluding contracts to safeguard enforcement of future claims, they can also generate uncertainty. These secondary uncertainties like ones stemming from vague rights and obligations may be counterbalanced by using different resources and strategies, including acting informally, modifying business plans or accepting the losses from unpaid dues. This book discusses how small and medium enterprises use the law, abstain from using the law, and use alternative pathways to manage business uncertainties. Examining these topics through the lenses of an extensive qualitative and quantitative empirical study on justiciable issues, access to justice and legal uncertainty among SMEs in Poland, it implements and expands upon the paradigmatic paths to justice methodology which has been successfully used to study conflict resolution, access to justice and utilisation of the law by individuals in more than 30 jurisdictions. It argues that the grand promise of modern law - that it is a certainty-providing, neutral and democratic device to resolve problems and conflicts - is not fully delivered. It reveals how the conditions of a freshly developed capitalism combined with the rule of law backsliding contribute to universal, structural problems with access to justice meaning that accessing justice is a resource-hungry process, which incentivises small businesses to settle for their legal problems and engage in informal and alternative strategies.
