Download or read book Dog Shaming written by Pascale Lemire and published by Crown. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the runaway web phenomenon (dogshamingdotcom), Dog Shaming features the most hilarious, most shameful, and never-before-seen doggie misdeeds. Our dogs are our best friends. They are always happy to see us. They comfort us in our times of need. They also eat our shoes, stain our carpets, and embarrass us in front of our guests. Dog owners everywhere have found their outlet in Dog Shaming, where they can confess their dogs' biggest (and often grossest!) sins, which turn out to be recognizably universal—complete with snapshots of ridiculously cute but shamed pups who don't seem capable of humping humans, pooping on pillows, or snagging steak straight from a grill. So share in the shaming and laugh through your frustration as Dog Shaming reminds us that unconditional love goes both ways.

Download or read book Training the Best Dog Ever written by Larry Kay and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training the Best Dog Ever, originally published in hardcover as The Love That Dog Training Program, is a book based on love and kindness. It features a program of positive reinforcement and no-fail techniques that author Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz used to train the White House dog, Bo Obama, and each of Senator Ted Kennedy’s dogs, among countless others. Training the Best Dog Ever relies on trust and treats, not choke collars; on bonding, not leash-yanking or reprimanding. The five-week training program takes only 10 to 20 minutes of practice a day and works both for puppies and for adult dogs that need to be trained out of bad habits. Illustrated with step-by-step photographs, the book covers hand-feeding; crate and potty training; and basic cues—sit, stay, come here—as well as more complex goals, such as bite inhibition and water safety. It shows how to avoid or correct typical behavior problems, including jumping, barking, and leash-pulling. Plus: how to make your dog comfortable in the world—a dog that knows how to behave in a vet’s office, is at ease around strangers, and more. In other words, the best dog ever.
Download or read book The Complete Guide to Bernese Mountain Dogs written by Andrea Brown Berman and published by LP Media Inc. This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bernese Mountain dogs are the second-largest breed of Sennenhund-type dogs, a group of four breeds developed to assist the herders and dairymen of the Swiss Alps in their daily lives. Not only did Sennenhund dogs like the Bernese Mountain Dog guard livestock, but they also protected the homestead and provided herding and drafting services. Modern-day Bernese are more likely to play the role of devoted companions than farm dogs—a role they excel at due to their affectionate and docile natures. All four of the Sennenhund breeds are hardy, good-natured working dogs with striking tricolored coats, but only the Bernese has gained widespread popularity in the United States. While Bernese Mountain Dogs are generally agreeable canines, early socialization and training are a must to uncover their true potential. This in-depth guide to the affable Bernese Mountain Dog will teach you how to make the most of your canine’s cooperative temperament, and how to avoid problem behaviors before they start. Discover the answers to crucial questions such as: Is a Bernese Mountain Dog the right dog for me? How do I select the right puppy or rescue dog for my household? Download or read book Dogs and Cats in South Korea written by Julien Dugnoille and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dogs and Cats in South Korea: Itinerant Commodities shows that though dogs and cats are consumed in the millions each year, they are recipients of both cruelty and care in a very unique way compared to other animal species in South Korean society. The anti-imperialist and postcolonial stances associated with the consumption of dogs and cats in South Korea are oversimplistic. Stereotypes by societies that do not eat these animals overshadow the various ways in which South Korean citizens interact with them, including companionship. In fact, many dogs and cats go from companion to livestock, and from livestock to companion, demonstrating that the relationships with these creatures are not only complex, but also fluid. The trajectories of the lives of dogs and cats are never linear. In that sense, individual dogs and cats in South Korea are itinerant animals navigating an exchange system based on culture, economics, and politics. With nuance and cultural understanding, Dugnoille tells the complicated stories of these animals in South Korea, as well as the humans who commoditize and singularize them.
Download or read book The Life Model of Social Work Practice written by Alex Gitterman and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1980, The Life Model of Social Work Practice was the first textbook to introduce the ecological perspective into social work practice. This fourth edition brings the text up to date by expanding and deepening this perspective. Integrating contemporary theory and research findings with numerous case illustrations drawn from a wide range of practice contexts, this textbook provides students with an invaluable introduction to the real world of social work practice and includes knowledge, methods, and skills for advanced practice. The authors detail the theoretical foundation of the ecological perspective and the life model’s emphasis on evidence- and ethics-guided practice, culturally competent and diversity-sensitive practice, and the multiple sources of accountability that social workers face. The text features an extensive discussion of the principles of trauma-informed practice and their implications for social work practice. Its discussion of cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity incorporates contemporary concepts such as cultural humility and privilege, intersectionality, and critical race theory and presents their application to practice. The authors integrate current research throughout the text and provide numerous research applications to underscore and model the importance of evidence-guided practice. The fourth edition reflects the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and the Council on Social Work Education’s most recent set of competency standards, which accredit social work schools and programs. It is accompanied by a teachers guide that provides chapter summaries, recommended teaching methods and skills, questions for discussion, and suggested assignments and identifies where in the text the nine EPAS competencies and their associated practice behaviors are addressed.
