Book Calculation of Unsteady Transonic Flows with Mild Separation by Viscous Inviscid Interaction

Download or read book Calculation of Unsteady Transonic Flows with Mild Separation by Viscous Inviscid Interaction written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-11 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a method for calculating viscous effects in two- and three-dimensional unsteady transonic flow fields. An integral boundary-layer method for turbulent viscous flow is coupled with the transonic small-disturbance potential equation in a quasi-steady manner. The viscous effects are modeled with Green's lag-entrainment equations for attached flow and an inverse boundary-layer method for flows that involve mild separation. The boundary-layer method is used stripwise to approximate three-dimensional effects. Applications are given for two-dimensional airfoils, aileron buzz, and a wing planform. Comparisons with inviscid calculations, other viscous calculation methods, and experimental data are presented. The results demonstrate that the present technique can economically and accurately calculate unsteady transonic flow fields that have viscous-inviscid interactions with mild flow separation. Book Computation of Viscous Phenomena in Unsteady Transonic Flow

Download or read book Computation of Viscous Phenomena in Unsteady Transonic Flow written by U. R. Muller and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in the development towards a 30 viscous-inviscid strong interaction method for computing unsteady transonic wing flow is reported. In the current version, an ADI-technique for solving the 3D unsteady Transonic Small Perturbation Equation (TSP) has been extended by incorporating an unsteady 2D integral boundary layer method and then simultaneously solving the viscous and inviscid flow equations in a stripwise fashion.

Book Theoretical Calculation of Viscous inviscid Transonic Flows

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current status of computational capabilities for calculating viscous-inviscid transonic flows other than the solution of Navier-Stokes equations is presented. Techniques for solving transonic inviscid flows and compressible integral boundary layer methods are reviewed, and systems for strong viscous-inviscid interactions are described. Generally, the transonic viscous-inviscid interaction is characterized by a subcritical boundary layer with a supersonic outer stream. The thickening boundary layer produces a pressure rise which causes further thickening of the boundary layer. The physical flow is best modeled by direct coupling of the viscous and inviscid systems to allow immediate interaction between the shock wave and the boundary layer. It appears that the method of integral relations for the outer inviscid flow, combined with an integral boundary layer scheme, possesses such a capability. To facilitate the computation, an hybrid approach to the transonic inviscid solution, which consists of the finite difference method for solving the overall transonic inviscid potential flow field and the method of integral relations for solving Euler's equation in the shock region, is suggested. Finally, the application of the steady two-dimensional methods to the quasi two-dimensional problem on axisymmetric stream surface of a cascade flow at transonic speeds is discussed. (Author).

Book Computation of Transonic Viscous Inviscid Interacting Flow

Download or read book Computation of Transonic Viscous Inviscid Interacting Flow written by D. L. Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transonic viscous-inviscid interaction is considered using the Euler and inverse compressible turbulent boundary-layer equations. Certain improvements in the inverse boundary-layer method are mentioned, along with experiences in using various Runge-Kutta schemes to solve the Euler equations. Numerical conditions imposed on the Euler equations at a surface for viscous-inviscid interaction using the method of equivalent sources are developed, and numerical solutions are presented and compared with experimental data to illustrate essential points. Book Drag Reduction by Shock and Boundary Layer Control

Download or read book Drag Reduction by Shock and Boundary Layer Control written by Egon Stanewsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The survival of the Aeronautical Industries of Europe in the highly competitive World Aviation Market is strongly dependent on such factors as time-to-market of a new or derivative aircraft and on its manufacturing costs but also on the achievement of a competitive technological advantage by which an increased market share can be gained. Recognizing this, cooperative research is continuously encouraged and co-financed by the European Union in order to strengthen the scientific and technological base of the Aeronautical Industries thus providing - among others - the technological edge needed for survival. Corresponding targets of research within Area 3, Technologies for Transport Means, and here in particular Area 3A, Aeronautics Technologies, of the Industrial and Materials Technologies Program ( Brite -EuRam III, 1994 -1998) have been identified to be aircraft efficiency, cost effectiveness and environmental impact. Concerning aircraft efficiency - relevant to the present research - a reduction in aircraft drag of 10%, a reduction in aircraft fuel consumption of 30%, and a reduction in airframe, engine and system weight of 20% are envisaged. Meeting these objectives has, of course, also a strong positive impact on the environment.
