Download or read book Aurora Bertrana written by Silvia Roig and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2016 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silvia Roig explores the narrative of Aurora Bertrana (1892-1974), an unknown writer today, but a successful and recognized female author in Catalonia and Spain during the 20th century. Aurora Bertrana's works are almost never mentioned in manuals of literature. Her rich, intellectual work has not received the attention it deserves, relegated almost to absolute oblivion. The author reviews and studies twenty-four of Bertrana's novels written in Catalan andSpanish, including: Ariatea (1960), El pomell de les violes (MS), L'inefable Philip (MS), La aldea sin hombres (mn.), La madrecita de los cerdos (MS), Entre dos silencis (1958), La ninfa d'argila (1959), Fracàs (1966) and La ciutat dels joves: reportatge fantasia (1971). She studies her work, published and unpublished, from a feminist approach, taking into account the intellectual history of Spain and Catalonia. Bertana's strong commitment to social issues reveals her association with the Modernist and Noucentists trends of her time. Bertrana's novels reveal a unique interest in non-Western cultures and lifestyles and her work undertakes controversial topics and socio-cultural issues, while she observes and draws special attention to the situation of women in different circumstances and cultural geographies. This book is therefore anchored on interpretive and theoretical parameters that intersect with consideration of gender, such as travel-and-gender and war-and-gender. Roig uses the work of feminists such as Simone De Beauvoir, Shulamith Firestone, Jelke Boesten, Margaret and Patrice Higonnet, Michelle Zimbalist Rosaldo and Julia Kristeva to help assess Bertrana's engagement with gender and socio-political issues. This approach is particularly well suited for a writer like Bertrana, a Catalan and Republican intellectual woman forced into self-exile during the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. Silvia Roig is a Faculty Member, BMCC Department of Modern Languages, The City University of New York.

Download or read book La Sexualidad written by Elizabeth Raptis Picco and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This curriculum unit provides educators with 10 lessons designed to make sexuality education culturally relevant for Latino youth in grades five through eight. While affirming the traditions and characteristics of Latino families and cultures, this structured curriculum introduces sexuality as a lifelong process that goes beyond physical intimacy. Students are encouraged to explore the many ways of expressing themselves as males and females through activities, homework assignments, and classroom discussions. Parent participation sheets in both English and Spanish identify each lesson's goals and show parents how they can reinforce the lessons with their child. The curriculum was designed to help students: (1) identify how their cultural heritage influences their attitudes and feelings; (2) describe ways family and cultural factors affect communication about sexuality at home; (3) demonstrate steps for responsible decision making and peer pressure reversal; (4) understand common physical and social changes that occur during puberty; and (5) demonstrate positive ways to communicate questions and concerns about sexuality to the adults in their lives. The curriculum includes a section on how to use the unit and 10 lesson plans. An historical and ethnographic profile of Latino or Hispanic groups in the United States, demographic trends and family life issues surrounding the Latino presence in the United States, student workbook features, a Spanish word list, the parent participation sheets, and references are appended. Download or read book FREUD Las claves del deseo written by FERNANDO JIMÉNEZ H.-PINZÓN and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-11-24 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Intermediate Medical Spanish written by Diana Galarreta-Aima and published by BrownWalker Press. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an intermediate/advanced level textbook directed toward students who are interested in learning the necessary medical terminology and cultural sensitivity to successfully care for the U.S. Spanish-speaking community in medical contexts. This textbook is divided into 13 chapters that include medical vocabulary, dialogues between medical professionals and patients, case studies, readings on health issues that affect the Latino community, readings to deepen students’ cultural competence while working with Latino patients, and interactive and realistic activities to provide students the tools they need to effectively care for this population. This textbook is unique in the market in its cultural perspective focused on the diversity and complexity of the Latino community living in the United States. The book addresses particular health concerns that affect the Hispanic population such as specific illnesses (diabetes type 2, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HIV/AIDS, obesity, and liver disease) as well as barriers to accessing healthcare and, at the same time, the book highlights the complexity and diversity among this population. Most medical Spanish textbooks on the market only offer lists of words and common phrases to provide basic tools of communication to healthcare workers. Intermediate Medical Spanish: A Healthcare Workers' Guide for Communicating With the Latino Patient, by contrast, is directed to learners with intermediate and advanced levels of Spanish who wish to broaden their use of the target language in medical contexts. Some of the topics covered in the textbook are: children’s health, maternal and reproductive health, diet and nutrition, mental health, and physical therapy. The book includes hundreds of vocabulary exercises and critical thinking activities pertaining to cultural awareness. The book also includes a key for some of the vocabulary exercises, a Spanish-English glossary, and a list of common medical procedures
