Book Fortune Makers

Download or read book Fortune Makers written by Michael Useem and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fortune Makers analyzes and brings to light the distinctive practices of business leaders who are the future of the Chinese economy. These leaders oversee not the old state-owned enterprises, but private companies that have had to invent their way forward out of the wreckage of an economy in tatters following the Cultural Revolution. Outside of brand names such as Alibaba and Lenovo, little is known, even by the Chinese themselves, about the people present at the creation of these innovative businesses. Fortune Makers provides sharp insights into their unique styles -- a distinctive blend of the entrepreneur, the street fighter, and practices developed by the Communist Party -- and their distinctive ways of leading and managing their organizations that are unlike anything the West is familiar with. When Peter Drucker published Concept of the Corporation in 1946, he revealed what made large American corporations tick. Similarly, when Japanese companies emerged as a global force in the 1980s, insightful analysts explained the practices that brought Japan's economy out of the ashes -- and what managers elsewhere could learn to compete with them. Now, based on unprecedented access, Fortune Makers allows business leaders in the United States and the rest of the West to understand the essential character and style of Chinese corporate life and its dominant players, whose businesses are the foundation of the domestic Chinese market and are now making their mark globally.

It demonstrates that there is no single model of Asian business leadership, and that Western models often do not fit easily alongside Asian cultural values. The book concludes by assessing how business leadership in Asia is likely to develop in future.

Book Leadership and Culture

Download or read book Leadership and Culture written by Dr. Liana C Saenz and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization is no longer a choice is a trend in everybodys life. A global leader without cultural awareness and global leadership skills is not able to lead to his [her] full potentialnot globally, not in todays world. Dr. Liana C Saenz. The success of todays global leaders and organizations depends more than ever before on their levels of intercultural awareness, perspectives on diversity, and correct application of this knowledge. In that sense, global corporations, organizations, and multicultural teams have opportunities to develop strategies that provide better solutions, increase productivity, improve effective communication, build teams and communities, and naturally bring economic benefits. Global alliances and collaboration will play a major role in all economies in the next century, in particular, between East and West; then, the understanding of Chinese business leaders is probably more important than ever as Americas well-being and security, prosperity, and future are deeply affected by developments in Northeast Asia. The current lack of literature on the relationship between acculturation and leadership for Chinese business leaders in the United States allows this book and the introduction of the study The Rapid Rise of Chinese Transformational Leadership: The Model for the Contemporary Chinese Business Leader a unique perspective and the opportunity to establish a ground based on its empirical findings. This book provides well-researched insight into leadership, culture and a key economic leader in todays world: Chinese business leaders, whose influence on the business, social, economic, and political landscapes cannot be underestimated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHINA CEO: A Case Guide for Business Leaders in China Some Western business leaders are moving into China without any clear knowledge of the many pitfalls they will encounter: the weak rule of law, forceful governmental intervention, a scarcity of managerial talent, the likelihood of counterfeiting, the fast paced business environment and surprisingly aggressive local competitors. This book uses case studies to both illuminate and examine these key managerial challenges. Each case focuses on a specific topic and is complemented with commentaries from professors and executives who have extensive front-line experience in China. The cases are the product of three-year research and are well-tested in MBA and executive courses. The authors' philosophy is that readers can learn most effectively through the experience of others captured in real cases! The book includes a broad range of companies, such as Emerson, Eli Lily, General Motors, Peugeot, Carrefour, Daimler-Chrysler, Picanol. It also includes more personal experiences concerning the many challenges of expatriate-living in China , some of whom have started their own businesses. The book provides concise but insightful analysis to help readers to get the most from the case studies. As a result, this book will help you get better prepared to face the varied challenges you will find in China. These cases complement the material presented in a previous work, China CEO: Voices of Experience from 20 International Business Leaders, also published by John Wiley & Sons.

Book Leadership and China

Download or read book Leadership and China written by Ralph J Bathurst and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its opening in 1978, China has undergone radical change. By establishing special economic zones along its Eastern coastal borders under Deng Xioping’s tutelage, China entered the global market. Loosening controls from central government allowed for a more free-market approach that facilitated easier trading partnerships across national boundaries. Leadership and China: Philosophy, Place and Practice explores the impact of these changes today. Companies across the globe are doing business with Chinese counterparts, but recently the Western world has begun treating China with suspicion, with some commentators claiming nefarious aims on the part of Chinese Communist Party, and intentions of favoring China’s growing middle class and political elites, while impoverishing other international trading partners. This calls for wise leadership on both sides of the political divide and this book facilitates conversations that explore synergies between East and West, aiming to move past suspicion and discuss how leaders might work for the benefit of all humanity. With an orientation towards conversations rather than polemics, graduate students, scholars and business leaders across the globe will benefit from this book.

This book was released on 2016-12-28 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: Economic relations between China and Germany have a long historical tradition. However, during the last two decades trade has increased significantly. From a German point of view high potential growth opportunities and untapped market niches attracted companies to enter the Chinese market. Nevertheless, those entries did not occur without difficulties for business leaders and their workforce due to cultural differences and thus, diverging styles of doing business. As a result, channelling knowledge of the two leadership cultures has become a relevant field to discover helpful aspects of interaction when managing Chinese operations or negotiations as well as cross-border mergers, acquisitions and alliances in China. Against this background, this paper aims for a description of both Chinese and German business culture with a specific focus on leadership in order to improve current understanding of effective leadership in China. In this context, this paper builds on findings of the GLOBE study, which serves as the main scientific basis. First, it will be reasoned why GLOBE study establishes a reasonable fundament for the subject at hand. Second, German and Chinese business and leadership culture will be presented. Third, based on this description a comparison will be drawn in order to reveal applied learning potentials, which will be the fourth part of this paper preceding the conclusion.

Book Global Business Leadership

Download or read book Global Business Leadership written by E.S. Wibbeke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-08-27 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Business Leadership discusses the urgent issues facing global business leaders and presents seven strategies found necessary for successful intercultural business ventures. It provides business professionals and students with insight into the failure of businesses to prepare leaders for stepping into complex cultural contexts. The Geoleadership Model developed by Dr. Wibbeke is applied to global business situations using cases taken from leading companies such as Google and eBay. The book uses a case study format to present salient issues related to intercultural leadership and then principles of the model are applied to the case in discussion format. The concepts of care, communication, consciousness, change, capability and others are analyzed in relation to how each concept is seen in different parts of the business world. Each chapter concludes with a "bottom line" example of how each Geoleadership concept directly affects business results. Global Business Leadership also provides instruction about entry into cultural contexts, negotiating, preventing and managing cultural-based local-global conflict, and preparing global leaders to increase intercultural awareness and sensitivity. Dr. Wibbeke founded and managed the leading Internet website (Web of Culture) for cross-cultural information on the Internet and shares such global experiences with other would-be globetrotters.
