Book Business Ethics A Christian Method for Making Moral Decisions

Download or read book Business Ethics A Christian Method for Making Moral Decisions written by John K. Tarwater and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regardless of one's function in the marketplace (consumer, producer, CEO, etc.), one is confronted by an ever-expanding world of moral questions. How does one make moral decisions in this changing environment? In his Business Ethics: A Christian Method for Making Moral Decisions, John Tarwater provides the reader with the fundamental tools necessary for making business decisions that honor God. In contrast to secular texts in business ethics that focus on changing ideas of corporate citizenship or stakeholder relationships, Tarwater emphasizes Scripture's fixed understanding of one's conduct, one's heart, and one's purpose when making moral decisions. In addition to exploring the interconnectedness of these three historic elements of morality, Tarwater links them to contemporary issues in the business world. By focusing on the method for making moral decisions and not just the consequences resulting from them, Tarwater illustrates how Scriptural principles assist readers with perennial concerns that undergird ethical dilemmas in every era.

Book excerpt: Integrity is essential to Judeo-Christian business ethics. But today’s business environment is complex. Those in business, and those preparing to enter the business world, need to grapple with the question of how integrity and biblical ethics can be applied in the workplace. They need to go “beyond integrity” in their thinking. Beyond Integrity is neither excessively theoretical nor simplistic and dogmatic. Rather, it offers a balanced and pragmatic approach to a number of concrete ethical issues. Readings from a wide range of sources present competing perspectives on each issue, and real-life case studies further help the reader grapple with ethical dilemmas. The authors conclude each chapter with their own distinctly Christian commentary on the topic covered. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can one be a Christian in the world of business, not just on the weekend? How can one be honorable in business? Through the integration of the Christian worldview and business ethics, this book provides Christians with a mental framework with which to answer these important questions. Beginning with Genesis as the foundation for the Christian's worldview and the Ten Commandments as the outline for the Christian's ethical obligations, the authors develop principles upon which ethical choices can be made, even when working in a primarily non-Christian-oriented business environment. The book is designed to be helpful both to those beginning their career in business and those already employed in business who struggle with how to engage in today's business environment while maintaining their commitment to God's vision for life to be both meaningful and honorable. Topics of business ethics such as employee rights, discrimination, technology and privacy, insider trading and accounting fraud, and the special challenges of working internationally are covered. The added value this book brings to these discussions lies in its serious consideration of the Christian worldview as foundational to ethical decision-making in everyday areas of business.

Book The Moral Background

Download or read book The Moral Background written by Gabriel Abend and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, many disciplines have become interested in the scientific study of morality. However, a conceptual framework for this work is still lacking. In The Moral Background, Gabriel Abend develops just such a framework and uses it to investigate the history of business ethics in the United States from the 1850s to the 1930s. According to Abend, morality consists of three levels: moral and immoral behavior, or the behavioral level; moral understandings and norms, or the normative level; and the moral background, which includes what moral concepts exist in a society, what moral methods can be used, what reasons can be given, and what objects can be morally evaluated at all. This background underlies the behavioral and normative levels; it supports, facilitates, and enables them. Through this perspective, Abend historically examines the work of numerous business ethicists and organizations—such as Protestant ministers, business associations, and business schools—and identifies two types of moral background. "Standards of Practice" is characterized by its scientific worldview, moral relativism, and emphasis on individuals' actions and decisions. The "Christian Merchant" type is characterized by its Christian worldview, moral objectivism, and conception of a person's life as a unity. The Moral Background offers both an original account of the history of business ethics and a novel framework for understanding and investigating morality in general.

Download or read book Ethics at Work written by Theology of Work Project and published by Bible and Your Work Study. This book was released on 2017-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right, and workplace ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right at work. For the Christian, this means applying the Bible and other resources of the Christian faith to help decide and do what is ethical or moral at work. Three general approaches to ethics have achieved widespread use both in Christian moral thinking and in the world at large: 1. Command--What do the rules say is the right way to act? 2. Consequences--What actions are most likely to bring about the best outcome? 3. Character--What kind of moral person do I want to be or become? What distinguishes Christian ethics is not that it uses different approaches, but that it brings biblical values into each of these approaches. There are biblical commands (also called principles), biblically desired outcomes and biblical character traits (also called virtues) that Christians need to bring into their moral decisions, actions and development. In developing a Christian ethic, we will consider what help the Bible provides for each of these approaches. Then we'll explore whether we might need to combine these three in some way to give us a more balanced and integrated approach. Finally, we'll consider how to live with the reality that our world is fallen, or imperfect, and that there is almost never a perfect solution. These Bible studies are part of The Bible and Your Work Study Series. Each book contains Scripture references, thought-provoking questions, and prayers to help you explore what the Bible says about work and apply it to your life in positive, practical ways. The lessons in each chapter are designed for thirty-minute lunch breaks, although they can be used in other formats as well.

This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can traditional Christian teachings help corporate executives make ethical business decisions? That's what Peet van Biljon and James C Sprouse address in their new book. Satisfied that they are working for legal businesses and already adhering to corporate and professional ethical standards, too many executives separate their work lives from the practice of their faith. Business decisions greatly affect the lives of employees, customers, suppliers, and society at large. In pursuit of profits, businesses may underpay and overwork employees, use unethical sales techniques, sell dangerous products to vulnerable consumers, cut costs so it harms people, and take other questionable actions that while legal, do not conform to Christian values. It doesn't have to be this way. In this new guide you will learn and be challenged to make better choices based on Biblical values. By placing detailed analyses of core business practices side by side with Biblical texts and guidance, this book identifies many potential areas for improvement. Whether it is providing a framework to navigate the challenges of automation and globalization, or advocating for fair employee compensation, Business Ethics for Executives connects the world of modern business with that of faith.
