This memoir is not about the high-flying life of fighter pilots, test pilots, Concorde captains or astronauts. Instead, it’s a candid exploration of a less glamorous but no less eventful and enjoyable career in the skies. In these pages, the author shares the lighter side of aviation, from amusing anecdotes to the unexpected joys of the job, as he successfully navigates the industry into retirement. This book is for anyone who’s ever been curious about the realities of a career in aviation, minus the typical heroics and high-octane adventures. It’s a testament to the day-to-day effort and perseverance required to stay aloft in this challenging field.

Book The bus

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Kirchner
  • Publisher : Editions Tanibis
  • Release : 2015-10-01
  • ISBN : 284841037X
  • Pages : 104 pages

Download or read book The bus written by Paul Kirchner and published by Editions Tanibis. This book was released on 2015-10-01 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bus comic strips were first published in 1978 in Heavy Metal magazine, where they appeared regularly for seven years. From the simple, mundane premise of a man waiting for his bus, the strips quickly slip into a weird yet hilarious world where cities are surreal labyrinths and bewilderment is just around the corner. Six to eight wordless panels is often all it takes Kirchner to display his sense for the bizarre. In the bus, fire hydrants come alive, buses chose to stray away from the law, the distant horizon might be just an arm’s length away and the whole world might just turn out to be a two-dimensional panel messing with our sense of depth. More bizarre yet, in 25 years since its original publication in the USA by Ballantine Books in 1987, the bus has never been republished. This new edition contains the entire collection of strips drawn by Paul Kirchner, including a dozen previously unreleased. It also includes a new postscript and a new cover drawing by Paul Kirchner.

Book Eternal Mayhem

  • Pages : 387 pages

Download or read book Eternal Mayhem written by Aniruddha Bose and published by Smriti Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book Poetics, the Greek philosopher Aristotle, asserted suspense is the fulcrum of all thrillers, with a fusion of trepidation, thrill, expectancy, anxiety, collocated with a feel of pandering tensity, captivation, fright, fervour. The readers seize with teeth the plot, as it converges to an aleatory, cryptic and stirring climax, leaving them to ruminate.Typically, a baddie-driven one, balked by red herrings, twists, to a bewitching cliff-hanger. Pigeon-holed, the author destroys hope, elicits curiosity and springs surprise, out of the blue. This is the form of the customary mystery, psychologic, political or romantic sub-genres.Gone are the days of ancient epics, Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer's Odyssey, Mahābhārata. With evolving era, the art of story-telling has undergone radical mutation.Revering them, my attempt was to carve a new scientific sub-genre relevant to this era. The prevalent construct of private detective is trompe-l’oeil. My debut to the ambit was with a novel perception, flouting the abstruse idea with a realistic one. Among the legion deaths, deputed buffs could carry the probe. Many quotidian folks could astutely scrutinise the conundrum, until one hits the final bonanza. With this scalage, it capsized the age-old detective myths initiated by Edgar Ala Poe, to a realistic podium. Though probe was by apposite folks, solution came from the victor. In my first mystery novel, CHAKRA (Bengali 2010) later as FULCRUM (English 2013), amongst heretical ways of several murders, the booklover is in pursuit of the killer-boffo duo. Later, in PURSUIT (2013), besides original homicidal methods, I ciphered a subtly furtive profound insight into extropy of global dynamics. I fused the elided outlook of tralatitious thrillers with a philosophy for humanity. The traditional ‘protagonist’ waffled between effector and the seer.Scientific thrillers involve a sixth sense into the core of science, history, evolution with a far-flung eagle view of progress. ETERNAL MAYHEM is one of such kind spotless adrenaline raiser, a touch chalk and cheese grand narrative with numerous puzzling scientific murders occurring worldwide. This complex cliff-hanger keeps the reader’s adrenaline spurting from the onset as scientific murders take place in exotic global locations. Beautiful lassies, intelligentsia, global scientists are trapped in this white-knuckle masterpiece with all the twirl and twists that will keep the readers rapt. This volume is more than a murder mystery, to transport you from your comfy lounger to a steaming isle, be it Bali, Fiji, Hawaii, Maldives, Bora Bora, Punta Cana or exotic nooks of Jamaica and Puerto Rico. This gripping craft keeps you on your feet, as the global scientific world of genetics gets swathed in the whodunit. Amid the scientific essence of genetic cloning research, it’s a scarper from the familiar concepts, to the roots of civilisation with its resultant diversities. It reveals shocking truths, so far clandestine. The apogee seals in a startling eye-opening truth of humanity, offering a thought-provoking riveting thriller.

Book excerpt: The tall foreigner living on Port Said Street in a Cairo hotel lived a simple life, reading books and writing letters, known as Uncle Tarek to neighborhood children. They did not know that he was actually Aribert Heim—the concentration camp doctor and fugitive from justice who became the most wanted Nazi war criminal in the world. Dr. Aribert Heim worked at the Mauthausen concentration camp for only a few months in 1941 but left a horrifying mark on the memories of survivors. In the chaos of the postwar period, Heim was able to slip away from his dark past. But certain rare individuals in Germany were unwilling to let Nazi war criminals go unpunished. Among them was a police investigator named Alfred Aedtner, whose quest took him across Europe and across decades, and into a close alliance with legendary Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal. This is the incredible story of how Aribert Heim evaded capture, living in a working-class neighborhood of the Egyptian capital, praying in Arabic, beloved by an adopted Muslim family, while inspiring a manhunt that outlived him by many years. He became the “Eternal Nazi,” a symbol of Germany’s evolving attitude toward the sins of its past, which finally crested in a desire to see justice done at almost any cost.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'India, the Eternal' is a book written towards peace, prosperity and harmony of all humanity. As means to achieve that, three key steps are discussed: redefining the human identity system, reminding ourselves about the concept of Dharma (Ethics) and finally, redefining an individual's success. These methods are then employed to prescribe solutions to a severe problem of the modern world, the situation in the Indian subcontinent. The first chapter of the book looks back at the partition and independence of India from a neutral viewpoint. In the second chapter, the book proposes a manifesto towards a caste-free society in India. The third chapter goes on to outline a plan to reunite India as a country having multiple Political States. The fourth chapter describes some philosophical thoughts that may guide an individual through different stages of life. The final chapter describes the author's journey through three different continents that led to the writing of the book.

Book Something is Eternal

Download or read book Something is Eternal written by Richard Henry Orndorff and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2023-11-08 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a hypothetically dialogue on how the eternal world might seem for someone recently dead, using me, the author pretending-to-be-recently-dead, confronted with a First Greeter, an intelligent and empathetic Spirit Guide named Amorella. This work is for the purpose of challenging the Reader’s reasoning and contemplation about how it is permanently moving on. Amorella has been my creative spirit guide since the early 1980s, and she has been in my earlier published novels with iUniverse. The dialogue is candid. Amorella gives me questions to show who I am now that I am a heartansoulanmind and nothing more. I am who I am; Amorella is who she is and has been as my silent creative companion for the last forty years. Faces of the dead are visible to one another; their heartsansoulsanminds are dressed as their faces, as they were in life. One’s spiritual face masks shows intellect and emotion. The spirit mask appears young, old, or in between, whatever the nondeceptive heartansoulanmind shows. Deception is a basic need in life, not spiritual existence. I, the Amorella and Spirit Guide, see Richard as a naked heartansoulanmind. There isn't any more of Richard left, only his straightforward humanity, his outer soul, and his personality through and through. Richard's setting is quite reasonable for one who is recently been declared dead by one such as myself. Someday you will be recently dead, and someone like me, the Amorella, may show up and appear out of black. You may sense a voice kindly saying, “Hello, I am your Spirit Guide and will help in your recent transformation from a physical/spiritual being into a spirit being, similar to myself, though you were born, lived and died. I am here when you feel the need of companionship or assistance.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herbert Peppard: The Eternal Man tells the true story of a 94-year-old World War Two veteran who was a member of the First Special Service Force, which is also known as the Devil's Brigade. Peppard grew up during the Great Depression in Truro, Nova Scotia. Unable to afford books for school, he dropped out at age 16 to work at the lumberyard. But with Hitler and the Nazis terrorizing Europe, he felt the call to join the army. Critical moments of battle are interwoven with letters, written by Peppard to his family and to Greta, the woman he vowed to return to and marry. Many letters were written from his hospital bed in Naples, where he spent six months recovering after being shot. The story follows Peppard after the war when he returned home to Nova Scotia. Today, Peppard is living in the very home where he was born. He writes columns in the local paper, walks a mile every day and continues to inspire others.
