Book Burst of Rhymes and Recipes

Download or read book Burst of Rhymes and Recipes written by Robbin Kingsbury and published by . This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Delightful Blend of Poetry and Herbal Tea. Robbin Kingsbury was born the middle child of five. Coming from a poorer family, there were no recreational outlets or extra social events for her to attend, at least none that were affordable, for a father who was the sole provider for a family of seven. As a result, she discovered her passion for writing, both short stories and poetry which lead her to become a professional copy writer for a radio station in Alberta. Having been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and very low iron, she discovered the healing benefits of herbal teas (non-commercial teas) and how they can help heal and sooth. Burst of Rhymes and Recipes is a collection of her most cherished poems, as well as excellent and easy to follow herbal tea recipes that can be used to optimise your health and aid with many health challenges. It also describes what an infusion is and how to create one as well as descriptions of the properties of various herbs (some from your own garden) and their unique benefits. Once you have the herbs you need, you will be able to create your own special herbal tea blends. It's time to put the kettle on, pick a recipe, infuse yourself with cup of health and vitality. Curl up with Robbin to enjoy your tea, her poetic verse, reflections and rhymes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cooking with Mother Goose is a one-of-a-kind storybook cookbook that invites parents and their children to discover delicious foods and the beloved nursery rhymes that inspire them? though this book offers so much more. You'll find beautifully illustrated nursery rhymes and tasty, nutritious recipes with photos. Expect to make precious memories, lots of little messes, and build a positive relationship between your little ones, cooking, and food.Cooking with Mother Goose isn't a cookbook simply for parents to help them prepare healthy meals for kids. Nor is it an instructional manual for parents to help teach their children to cook. Instead, it's an adventure in reading classic nursery rhymes through a new lens and bringing them to life by cooking and connecting as a family. Just as reading books aloud together brings a sense of closeness with our children, so does cooking-and playing-with food in the kitchen. Cooking together can strengthen your emotional bond while you read, talk, measure, and make messes over creating a dish. And that teaches important life lessons about food, mealtime, and nourishment of the body and of the family. Not to mention, it creates memories.

Book Humor in Modern American Poetry

Download or read book Humor in Modern American Poetry written by Rachel Trousdale and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern poetry, at least according to the current consensus, is difficult and often depressing. But as Humor in Modern American Poetry shows, modern poetry is full of humorous moments, from comic verse published in popular magazines to the absurd juxtapositions of The Cantos. The essays in this collection show that humor is as essential to the serious work of William Carlos Williams as it is to the light verse of Phyllis McGinley. For the writers in this volume, the point of humor is not to provide "comic relief,†? a brief counterpoint to the poem's more serious themes; humor is central to the poems' projects. These poets use humor to claim their own poetic authority; to re-define literary tradition; to show what audience they are writing for; to make political attacks; and, perhaps most surprisingly, to promote sympathy among their readers. The essays in this book include single-author studies, discussions of literary circles, and theories of form. Taken together, they help to begin a new conversation about modernist poetry, one that treats its lighthearted moments not as decorative but as substantive. Humor defines groups and marks social boundaries, but it also leads us to transgress those boundaries; it forges ties between the writer and the reader, blurs the line between public and private, and becomes a spur to self-awareness.

Book excerpt: Collected primarily in metropolitan New York and Philadelphia during the classic era of black street poetry (i.e., during the late 1960s and early 1970s) these raps, signifyings, toasts, boasts, jokes and children's rhymes will delight general readers as well as scholars. Ranging from the simple rhymes that accompany children's games to verbally inventive insults and the epic exploits of traditional characters like Shine and Stagger Lee, these texts sound the deep rivers of culture, echoing two continents. Onwuchekwa Jemie's introductory essay situates them in a globally pan-African context and relates them to more recent forms of oral culture such as rap and spoken word.

Book Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Crown

Download or read book Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Crown written by John Lithgow and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the success of his New York Times bestseller Dumpty, award-winning actor, author, and illustrator John Lithgow presents a brand-new collection of satirical poems chronicling the despotic age of Donald Trump. Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Crown is darker and more hard-hitting than ever. Lithgow writes and draws with wit and fury as he takes readers through another year of the shocking events involving Trump and his administration. His uproarious poems and illustrations encompass Trump's impeachment, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter protests, and much more. Lithgow targets Mitch McConnell, Mike Pompeo, Bill Barr, Jared Kushner, Elaine Chao, and many others, but also includes a few heroes of the moment, including Anthony Fauci, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and even Barack Obama. The book arrives at a time when it's needed most. With all-new poems and never-before-seen line drawings, Lithgow will once again make readers laugh and pause to remember some of the most defining moments in recent history—skewering the reign of King Dumpty one stanza at a time. Book Hugo Wolf and his M rike Songs

Download or read book Hugo Wolf and his M rike Songs written by Susan Youens and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-06-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viennese composer Hugo Wolf produced one of the most important song collections of the nineteenth century when he set to music fifty-three poems by the great German poet Eduard Mörike. Susan Youens reappraises this singular collaboration to shed new light on the sophisticated interplay between poetry and music in the songs. Wolf is customarily described as 'the Poet's Composer', someone who revered poetry and served it faithfully in his music. Yet, as Youens reveals, this cliché overlooks the rich terrain in which his songs are often at cross purposes with his chosen poetry. Although Wolf did much to draw the world's attention to the neglected Swabian poet, his musical interpretation of the poetry was also influenced by his own life, psychology and experiences. This book examines selected Mörike songs in detail, demonstrating that the poems and music each have their own distinctive stories which at times intersect but also diverge.
