Book excerpt: In her new book, Jane Katch explores the painful problems of bullying, teasing, and exclusion. Why, she wonders, does a young child, just becoming aware of the existence of the group, feel such a strong need to keep another child out? And is it possible to teach children to create social groups that aren't defined by excluding others? With her acute eye and deft pen, Katch watches her class of four- and five-year-olds begin to form exclusionary groups and tells us what happens as she tries to intervene. Talking with her brother, who teased her as a child; with high school kids; and, as always, with her class, Katch comes to new understandings of why some kids bully and scapegoat, how other kids get through the experience, and how she as a teacher might intervene. They Don't Like Me is at once a fascinating, absorbing look into the social lives of children and a book for teachers and parents who are trying to understand how to prevent exclusion and how to support children who are being teased and bullied.

Book Stop Bullying Me

Download or read book Stop Bullying Me written by Claudio V. Cerullo and published by America Star Books. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a national survey, over 200,000 children get bullied ever day in our schools across our country. And more often than not, bulling goes un-detected until it is too late. This book will help parents, students, and teachers understand what bullying is and how to speak to their children and students about bullying at home and in the classroom. If your child is being bullied, there are ways to help him or her deal with it on a day-to-day basis and lessen its lasting impact. And even if bullying isn't an issue right in your home right now, it's important to discuss it so your children will be prepared if it does happen one day. It's also important to take bullying seriously and not just brush it off as something that children have to "tough out." The effects can be serious and affect children's sense of self-worth, self-esteem, and future relationships in life. In severe cases, bullying has contributed to tragedies, such as many school shootings at all school levels--elementary, middle, high school, and even today's college campus.

Download or read book Stand Up Fight Back written by Jeremy Burke and published by Bookbaby. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stand Up, Fight Back is the story of little 9 year old boy in 4th grade being terrorized by bullies every day. It started on the school bus with verbal taunts by the bullies to all the kids. Everyday they systematically made their way around the bus teasing everyone. When it was my turn for ridicule, I tried to ignore them and hoped they would just go away. Eventually the bullies would push further and be more aggressive with their attacks to get a reaction. As they increased pressure, I would try to retreat further into my dark hole of emptiness to get away. This drove them more and more to hurt me. Eventually I caved and started to cry. It was a huge victory for the bullies to get someone to cry. As months went on the attacks became more frequent and also became physical. They would slap my head, flick my ears, punch and poke me. They would pull my shoes off and even throw them out the bus window. And the bullying made it's way off the bus and into school, the schoolyard and even out in public places. I couldn't get away. This book details the dark plight of bullying and abuse that goes on every day in schools all over the country. You hear all the details about how that little boy was systematically broken down into the darkest lows where his soul could go. I discuss the failures of the system along the way as I was being bullied. From the Bus Driver that saw it all, to the principal that heard first hand from my mother about how I looked getting off the bus being beaten to finally the bully's parents denying any wrong doing of their son. Many adults knew what was going on but none did much about it. I conclude the book with some details on how to fix this epidemic. It won't be easy and we'll never wipe it out completely. But we can take a stand against bullying, but we have to do it together. And we have to start now. The first step begins with the parents and ends with the child being bullied. Stand Up, Fight Back.
