Book Building Your Future As Young Africans

Download or read book Building Your Future As Young Africans written by Dipo Toby Alakija and published by Calvary Rock Resource. This book was released on 2019-03-06 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going by world history, mankind is always faced with all kinds of challenges that are peculiar to each nation but the patriotic or unpatriotic attitudes of the citizens always determine if the country would overcome the problems or not. Many African youths who see and feel the problems in their countries sometimes blame the Governments. Consequently, a lot of them are enlisted as rebels who often times fight against their Governments. They are also involved in crimes, terrorism and other atrocities without realizing their deadly implications in future. Youths are often ignorant of the fact that what they do today will determine what their tomorrow and the future of their countries would be. This book makes serious attempts to help both youths and adults in Africa to understand the normal process of real success through the resource materials inside. The author explains how problems can be seen as opportunities to excel in life, using real life stories as cases for studies, quoting relevant authorities to buttress his points. The book is also designed to teach African youths of the need to build their nations by encouraging them to enhance their values through skill acquisitions, setting goals and making best use of their potentials and the available resources.

Book Africa Unchained

Download or read book Africa Unchained written by G. Ayittey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-30 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Africa Unchained , George Ayittey takes a controversial look at Africa's future and makes a number of daring suggestions. Looking at how Africa can modernize, build, and improve their indigenous institutions which have been castigated by African leaders as 'backward and primitive', Ayittey argues that Africa should build and expand upon these traditions of free markets and free trade. Asking why the poorest Africans haven't been able to prosper in the Twenty-first-century, Ayittey makes the answer obvious: their economic freedom was snatched from them. War and conflict replaced peace and the infrastructure crumbled. In a book that will be pondered over and argued about as much as his previous volumes, Ayittey looks at the possibilities for indigenous structures to revive a troubled continent.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lead from the Outside is a necessary guide to harnessing the strengths of being an outsider by Stacey Abrams, one of the most prominent black female politicians in the U.S. Leadership is hard. Convincing others—and often yourself—that you possess the answers and are capable of world-affecting change requires confidence, insight, and sheer bravado. Stacey Abrams's Lead from the Outside is the handbook for outsiders, written with the awareness of the experiences and challenges that hinder anyone who exists beyond the structure of traditional white male power—women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and millennials ready to make a difference. In Lead from the Outside, Stacey Abrams argues that knowing your own passion is the key to success, regardless of the scale or target. From launching a company, to starting a day care center for homeless teen moms, to running a successful political campaign, finding what you want to fight for is as critical as knowing how to turn thought into action. Stacey uses her experience and hard-won insights to break down how ambition, fear, money, and failure function in leadership, while offering personal stories that illuminate practical strategies. Stacey includes exercises to help you hone your skills and realize your aspirations. She discusses candidly what she has learned over the course of her impressive career: that differences in race, gender, and class are surmountable. With direction and dedication, being in the minority actually provides unique and vital strength, which we can employ to rise to the top and make real change.

Book Africa s Great North Road in a VW Camper

Download or read book Africa s Great North Road in a VW Camper written by Ted Jones and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emma and I most cordially invite you to accompany us as our special arm-chair guest on an overland journey through the most exciting continent on the Planet Earth. We shall begin our journey in Cape Town, South Africa in the fall of 1964. During the following ten months we will travel and camp along Africa's Great North Road. A variety of recently created nations and peoples, a few still struggling to be free, will be visited, among them, South Africa, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and the Congo. There are, at present, more than 700 separate tribes living south of the Great Sahara Desert. Obviously all of them cannot be included. However, we will visit and camp-out with the typical African where he lives, whether it be an Afrikaner living in one of the exclusive multi-level homes cut into the rock cliffs overlooking the Bay of Cape Town surrounded by twelve-foot walls capped with broken glass and razor wire or a Wanderobo tribesman dressed in a loincloth and carrying a bow and sheath of poisoned arrows met along a primitive dusty track running through the Bush country of Tanzania. Our self-contained VW camper gave us the freedom to camp along the streets of any city or village or along the track where Native Africans were living much as they have for many hundreds of years. Please be prepared, watching people and so-called "wild" animals can take many hours and, in some instances, the supply of daylight runs out. Frequently camp was made along the track out in the Bush and was visited by elephants during the night or a pride of lions stopping by to sharpen their claws on our tires. In one instance several elephants stripped branches off a tree under which we were camped - not one of them touched the camper! It was not unusual to be awakened early in the morning by curious men, women and children who wondered what we were doing; curious but quiet and polite. We never experienced an unpleasant incident while camped out in the Bush. Getting lost in the Congo could have been a fatal mistake! My lack of attention exposed us to an outlaw group of renegades left over from the Tanzania-Uganda War. A serious effort has been made throughout to record the details and opinions as the events took place and our conclusions were formulated. The events, we think, have been accurately recorded. The opinions represent our personal interpretations and tentative conclusions. It is our sincere hope that an open-minded reading of our book will increase the degree of public conscious awareness, with respect to the critical predicament of the African peoples, their culture, environment, wildlife and other natural resources.

Book Youth and Nation Building in Cameroon A Study of National Youth Day Messages and Leadership Discourse 1949 2009

Download or read book Youth and Nation Building in Cameroon A Study of National Youth Day Messages and Leadership Discourse 1949 2009 written by Churchill Ewumbue-Monono and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2009-07-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meticulous and comprehensive documentation of Cameroonian Youth Day Messages and leadership discourse on youth from 1949 - 2009 is a gold mine for researchers, historians and anyone interested in studying youth, politics and society in Africa. The book presents and explores themes and content of Youth Day Messages: how these messages tied in with, or veered away from, key events and issues of the time; how they served as a platform for West Cameroon governments, and the Ahidjo and Biya regimes to articulate their political vision, justify their policies, sell their respective ideologies to the youth; and what lessons could be drawn from them on competing, conflicting and complementary perspectives on youth agency in Cameroon and Africa. Churchill links the Youth Day to ongoing discussions in Africa about the role and place of youths as agents of development in Africa. Most significantly, he finally puts Cameroon's controversial Youth Day in its appropriate historical context - not as a political device created by the Francophone politicians to distort Cameroonian history and erase 'plebiscite day' from the collective memory as Anglophone nationalists claim, but as a British Cameroons colonial legacy, successfully sold to the Ahidjo regime as a day to be commemorated throughout the federation, by leaders of the federated state of West Cameroon. Churchill Ewumbue-Monono, a senior career diplomat, is Minister Counsellor in the Cameroon Embassy in Moscow. A graduate of the International Higher School of Journalism, and the International Relations Institute of Cameroon in the University of Yaounde, he was a 1991-92 Fellow in Public Diplomacy in Boston University, USA. He has served in Cameroon in various professional capacities. Ewumbue-Monono has written extensively on Cameroon's political history, and his books include Men of Courage, published in 2005.

Book The Impact of Corruption in Africa

Download or read book The Impact of Corruption in Africa written by Emmanuel Ugono and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-09-18 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption has wreaked havoc in Africa more than HIV/AIDS, cancer, and malaria combined. The war and hunger in East Africa, the political unrest in North Africa, the drug issues in South Africa, and the rise in militancy and terrorism in West Africa are all children of corruption. The threat is not what we have suffered so far but what will befall us if fail to act now. In a few years from now, it will be difficult to convince young Africans that corruption is not our culture. Culture is a way of life, and it is inherited. And so it is in Africa, one government inherits corruption from another. This book is a message to every young African: Corruption is and can never be our culture; we just got it wrong somewhere. It is time to fix Africa. I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet (Mahatma Gandhi). Do not inherit corruption!

Download or read book Anxious Joburg written by Nicky Falkof and published by Wits University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interdisciplinary account of the life of Johannesburg, South Africa's "global south city" Anxious Joburg focuses on Johannesburg, the largest and wealthiest city in South Africa, as a case study for the contemporary global South city. Global South cities are often characterised as sites of contradiction and difference that produce a range of feelings around anxiety. This is often imagined in terms of the global North’s anxieties about the South: migration, crime, terrorism, disease and environmental crisis. Anxious Joburg invites readers to consider an intimate perspective of living inside such a city. How does it feel to live in the metropolis of Johannesburg: what are the conditions, intersections, affects and experiences that mark the contemporary urban? Scholars, visual artists and storytellers, all look at unexamined aspects of Johannesburg life. From peripheral settlements to the inner city to the affluent northern suburbs, from precarious migrants and domestic workers to upwardly mobile young women and fearful elites, Anxious Joburg presents an absorbing engagement with this frustrating, dangerous, seductive city. It offers a rigorous, critical approach to Johannesburg revealing the way in which anxiety is a vital structuring principle of contemporary life. The approach is strongly interdisciplinary, with contributions from media studies, anthropology, religious studies, urban geography, migration studies and psychology. It will appeal to students and teachers, as well as to academic researchers concerned with Johannesburg, South Africa, cities and the global South. The mix of approaches will also draw a non-academic audience.
