Book Region Nation and Homeland

Download or read book Region Nation and Homeland written by Miriam Coronel Ferrer and published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Movements tell stories of oppression and liberation. They critique the power relations that exist. They offer alternative visions of the homeland they hope to build. This volume looks at the Moro and Cordillera movements as told in their own words. Within and among these movement organizations in the Philippines, their constructed identities and claims for demanding the right to self-determination differed and evolved over time. The author shows the significant intertextuality in the discourse of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which broke away from the Moro National Liberation Front. She traces the drift to heightened ethnonationalism in the case of the Cordillera Peoples’ Liberation Army when it split from the national democratic Cordillera People’s Democratic Front. She reflects on where these mobilizations are now, and the strands of discourses that have remained salient in current times.

Download or read book Decentralized Capacity Building written by Development Academy of the Philippines and published by Development Academy of the Philippines. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new definition of capacity-building is evolving--one tha t is veering away from conventional ideas of organizational engineering . As it encompasses the broad environment or system in which social changes occur, capacitybuilding has become more complex, yet also more rewarding . Today, some of the buzzwords are empowerment, social capital, enabling environment. Moreover, culture, values and power rela tions that influence and motivate organizations and individuals are gaining more attention. There is respect and even appreciation now for informal patterns of personal and culture-bound organizational behavior- the unwritten rules of the game, so to speak. As well, there is the urge to complement, not replace, indigenous ha bits and practices. All of these are progressively coalescing into a body of concepts called capacity development.

Book Central Local Relations in Asia Pacific

Download or read book Central Local Relations in Asia Pacific written by Mark Turner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A source of perennial tension in states is the degree to which decision-making power and authority should be concentrated in central institutions and individuals. At present the conventional wisdom of central-local relations has swung in favour of decentralisation. This book investigates whether such convergence is taking place through detailed examination in Asia-Pacific. The results of the survey reveal a complex picture in which divergence is still evident in the region's patterns of central-local relations.
