This subject suggests itself as not inappropriate, and I trust it will lead to a train of remark not entirely without interest. A much broader subject would be my retrospections of Buffalo, including matters which relate not alone to medicine, but to medical politics and personal experiences in connection with different members of the medical profession. It would not be fitting on this occasion to embrace these in my reminis cences, since they would involve references to events and persons, which might not be acceptable to all. This more comprehensive view of the sub jcet I must reserve for a. Different occasion, and a date farther removed than the present from the period over which my retrospective history extends. My purpose now is to confine myself to matters pertaining to the practice of medicine, and if I am led to speak Of particular events or persons, it will be in a manner to which no one will be likely to take excep tions. It has also been found that three-fourths of the abscesses of the brain are in the temporo-sphenoidal lobes. Fracture of this bone from gun-shot is almost always followed by a profound deafness of one side, but more rarely by contra-coup of the other side. A very severe blow on one side will at times be recovered from. The following is the statement of the case I now present, in a letter from the surgeon, Dr. D. P. Miller, of Huntingdon, Pa. And lest the very title of our paper be made an example of that which it purposes to deprecate and correct, let it suffice to say that the accent falls on the first syllable ca'coepy, analogous to or'tho'epy.
