Book excerpt: A budgie, as the common parakeet is typically called, is the subject of this Complete Care Made Easy pet guide that presents new and experienced bird keepers with insight into every aspect of selecting, caring for, and maintaining well-behaved happy pet birds. Angela Davids has written an ideal introductory pet guide, with chapters on the characteristics of the irresistible budgie, the history of budgies in the wild, selection of a healthy, typical pet bird, housing and care, feeding, training, and health care. The selection chapter offers potential owners excellent advice about selection of the color and sex, suitability of the delicate budgie with families, children, and other pets. In the chapter on housing and care, the author discusses selection of the right cage, placement of the cage, and the purchase of toys, cups, perches, and more. A bird’s diet is critical to its ongoing health, and the chapter devoted to feeding the budgie gives the reader all the info he or she needs about choosing the best diet, different types of seeds, greens, fruits, veggies, grit, as well as human foods to avoid. The chapter “Training Time” addresses finger training, towel training, perch training, and offers an easy-to-follow primer on teaching a budgie to talk. The final two chapters of the book will be useful for bird fanciers interested in learning more about the breeding and the basic color variations and genetics of this perfect beginner’s bird. The book concludes with an appendix of bird societies, a glossary of terms, and a complete index.

Book Parakeets And Budgies Raising Feeding And Hand Training Your Keet

Download or read book Parakeets And Budgies Raising Feeding And Hand Training Your Keet written by Lisa Shea and published by Lisa Shea. This book was released on with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have owned parakeets (also called budgies or keets) since I was a tiny toddler. I have photos of my pregnant-with-me-mom's parakeet (named Gandalf), so she owned parakeets even before I was born. Sometimes I've had four parakeets, sometimes just one, but in one way or another parakeets manage to wiggle their fluffy ways into my heart. This book is a compilation of my years of experience, not only with my own parakeets, but also with helping the tens of thousands of parakeet-loving visitors who come to my parakeet forum. Between the group of us we've probably experienced everything there is that could happen to a keet, good or bad. There is information on choosing a parakeet, feeding a parakeet, and full step by step instructions on hand training your parakeet. You can learn about parakeet activities, parakeet toys, and parakeet socialization. While the web is of course an awesome resource, often there are times that it's simply easier to read an organized, sequential set of instructions on an e-reader. Also, it seems that web access goes down during emergency situations! Having an ebook version of those "what to do" instructions available on your e-reader has saved many a keet owner. Think of it as part of your emergency care kit for your beloved pet. If you have any questions, always feel free to email me! I'm happy to lend a hand with keets. Enjoy!

Book excerpt: Budgies, budgies, budgies. Beautiful and cheeky, delightful and enchanting, wild or tamed budgerigars are Australia's gift to the bird world. They sing and dance, and yawn as contagiously as humans. They are masters of mimicry. They grasp simple grammar, can count to six and have memories that belie their size. They've been coveted by royals and been companions to the great and famous as well as grannies in suburban kitchens around the world. They've been painted by masters, rendered in the finest porcelain and graced fashionable hats and earrings of the highest order. Their image has been used to sell whisky, stamps and laundry detergent and everything in between. Surprising, charming and occasionally alarming, Budgerigar is the book that at last opens the cage door on the incredible story of the little bird that grew.

Book Budgie and Sissy s Adventure

Download or read book Budgie and Sissy s Adventure written by Jane Lowrey-Christian and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-08-28 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True incidents and memories from the viewpoint of the author, as a small girl in North Missouri, on a farm, along with her brothers and the influence her parents and grandparents played in their lives. All ages will enjoy reading the interactions of Budgie and Sissy as they struggle with decisions and lessons learned and react to each situation only as children can. The stories took place during the Depression and drought in the 1930s. The author is the only living member of her family mentioned in these pages and would not have had the courage to write these words as she remembers them, if they were here looking over her shoulder. She was very shy as a child and would have been embarrassed to have her family know her true feelings. This book expresses her love as a child for her family and the love she feels now as an adult when they are in her memories.

Download or read book Flight of the Budgerigar written by Penny Olsen and published by . This book was released on 2021-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Budgerigar is arguably Australia's best-known bird. At the same time, it is so ubiquitous that not everyone knows that it is Australian. Nor do many realise that the multicoloured bird that comes to mind--not to mention today's super-sized, extravagantly coiffed show budgie--is as different from the free-living original as a chihuahua from a wolf. Far from the cosy domestic lives our pet budgies live today, the native budgerigar has lived millennia of boom-bust cycles in the arid inland of Australia. Life was often short; if they were not fodder for predators, they starved or had to struggle their way to districts closer to the coast. For the Warlpiri and their Arrernte neighbours around Alice Springs, the Budgerigar (in its ancestral form) was a totem animal, featuring in art, ceremonies, songlines and legends. Since 1840, when ornithologist John Gould took living specimens to London, this little parrot has been on a remarkable journey. The Budgerigar was Australia's first mass export; its story includes British queens and nobles, Japanese princes and Hollywood stars. It has won the hearts of British spies and world leaders, including Churchill, Stalin and Kennedy. Taking the reader from the Dreamtime to the colonial live bird trade, the competitive culture of the showroom and today's thriving wild flocks, Flight of the Budgerigar is the authoritative history of the Budgerigar, written by respected ornithologist Dr Penny Olsen, and lavishly illustrated in full colour.

  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Budgie written by John Burridge and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04-04 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John 'Budgie' Burridge is a true journeyman pro and a hero to football fans up and down the country. In a unique career spanning 30 years, Budgie played 771 league games for 29 teams, including Crystal Palace nad QPR (under Terry Venables at both clubs), Southampton (alongside a young Alan Shearer), Manchester City, Aston Villa (where he would play against Barcelona in the European Super Cup), Wolves, and in Scotland with Hibernian where he was a hero in their League Cup win of 1991. That happy sojourn to Edinburgh would end in acrimony, however, as he ended up in a dressing-room fight with the manager. Highly respected as a goalkeeper, but denounced by many as an 'oddball' (he admitted that he often slept wearing only his goalkeeper's gloves), Budgie was famous for his madcap antics and his pre-match stretching routines. He would also make a point of going on a lap of honour to salute his club's fans at the end of every game, win, lose or draw -- a gesture that endeared him to legions of supporters as a man of the people. The Burridge story was far from over when he finally retired in 1997, at the age of 47. He lapsed into depression and spent months at the Priory Clinic as he struggled badly to cope with the void in his life. He became player-manager at non-league Blyth Spartans -- only to late be convicted for dealing in counterfeit leisurewear. The prosecution case was significantly strengthened by the fact that there was video evidence of half the team wearing Burridge's sportswear before an FA Cup match. Together with his wife of more than 30 years, Budgie moved to Oman in the Middle East to take up a coaching post with the national team. He sustained serious injuries when he wad knocked down by a car in 1999, but its back in rude health. He is still employed with the Oman FA, lives there, and acts as a TV pundit and newspaper columnist in Singapore. Burridge is still fascinating and funny to this day, and in this tell-all autobiography he reveals the truth behind his astonishing football career.
