Download or read book Many Paths to the Bah Faith written by Nathan Thomas and published by Greysands Media. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Many Paths to the Baha'i Faith, How People of Different Faith Experiences Discover Fulfillment in the Baha'i Faith, author Nathan Thomas explores the process that many people go through when they investigate this new world religion. The book describes how many people from Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, Native Faiths, and even agnostic backgrounds perceive and experience the Baha'i Faith. It summarizes some of the elements and teachings that people from these backgrounds often find in common with Baha'is, as the Baha'i Faith teaches that all religions come from the same foundation. It then explores some of the teachings and beliefs of the Baha'i Faith that are attractive to people. From their work for peace, justice, and equality; to their beliefs in the essential unity of science and religion and the practical approach to spiritual development, many people find aspects of this faith that intrigue them and draw them towards it. This religion, founded by a man named Baha'u'llah in the mid-1800's, offers something tangible and inspiring to every single person on the planet. And so when people have an open mind in their spiritual search, they often discover gems hidden in its depths that appeal to them. Lastly, the book explores some of the common challenges that some people overcome as they journey towards accepting this new world faith as their own. These challenges can come in many forms including new interpretations of scripture and prophesy, realizing new truths that overturn their preconceived notions, and believing that they have the personal power to change their lives and accept something new. With the help of illustrative stories, quotations from the Baha'i Holy Writings, and a brisk and conversational style, Many Paths to the Baha'i Faith can help people from a variety of backgrounds explore the Baha'i Faith from different perspectives.

Book Theory of Religious Cycles

Download or read book Theory of Religious Cycles written by Mikhail Sergeev and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Theory of Religious Cycles: Tradition, Modernity and the Bahá’í Faith Mikhail Sergeev offers a new interpretation of the Soviet period of Russian history as a phase within the religious evolution of humankind by developing a theory of religious cycles, which he applies to modernity and to all the major world faiths of Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. Sergeev argues that in the course of its evolution religion passes through six common phases—formative, orthodox, classical, reformist, critical, and post-critical. Modernity, which was started by the European Enlightenment, represents the critical phase of Christianity, a systemic crisis that could be overcome with the appearance of new religious movements such as the Bahá’í Faith, which offers a spiritual extension of the modern worldview.

  • Pages : 276 pages

Download or read book The Bah written by Michael McMullen and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bahá'í Faith is one of the fastest growing, but least studied, of the world's religions. Adherents view themselves as united by a universal belief that transcends national boundaries. Michael McMullen examines how the Bahá'í develop and maintain this global identity. Taking the Bahá'í community in Atlanta, Georgia, as a case in point, his book is the first to comprehensively examine the tenets of this little-understood faith. McMullen notes that, to the Bahá'í, Buddha, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed are all divinely sent teachers of 'the Truth', whose messages conform to the needs of their individual cultures and historical periods. But religion--which draws from the teaching of Bahá'u'lláh, a nineteenth-century Persian--encourages its members to think of themselves as global citizens. It also seeks to establish unity among its members through adherence to a Bahá'í worldview. By examining the Atlanta Bahá'í community, McMullen shows how this global identity is interpreted locally. He discusses such topics as: the organizational structure and authority relations in the Bahá'í "Administrative Order"; Bahá'í evangelicalism; and the social boundaries between Bahá'ís and the wider culture.

  • Author : Michael McMullen
  • Publisher : NYU Press

Download or read book The Bah s of America written by Michael McMullen and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2015-11-27 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bahá’í Faith had its origins in nineteenth century Shi’ite Islam, but embraces Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad—among others—as prophets, each seen as a divine messenger uniquely suited to the needs of his time. The Bahá’í community has spread to become the second most geographically widespread religion in the world. It has a 120 year history in the United States, where members have promoted their core belief that all people are created equal. American Bahá’ís have been remarkably successful in attracting a diverse membership. They instituted efforts to promote racial unity in the deep South decades before the modern civil rights movement, and despite lip service to fostering multi racial congregations among Christian churches, over half of American Bahá’í congregations today are multiracial, in comparison to just 5 to 7 percent of U.S. Christian churches. This level of diversity is unique among all religious groups in the United States. As the story of a relatively new religious movement, the history of the Bahá’ís in America in the 20th and early 21st centuries offers a case study of institutional maturation, showcasing the community’s efforts to weather conflict and achieve steady growth. While much scholarly attention has been paid to extremist religious movements, this book highlights a religious movement that promotes the idea of the unity of all religions. Mike McMullen traces the hard work of the Bahá’ís’ leadership and congregants to achieve their high level of diversity and manage to grow so successfully in America.

Book Questions from Christians

Download or read book Questions from Christians written by Thom Thompson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2002-05-30 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Questions from Christians, a conversation between a Christian and a Bahai, Christians find answers to questions about the Bahai Faith, and Bahaullah and His Teachings. In addition to learning why Bahais accept Bahaullah as the Return of the Spirit of Christ, Christians can learn what Bahaullah taught about God, Jesus Christ, the Virgin Birth, the Bible, Life after Death, Sin, Forgiveness and the Time of the End. Christians are introduced to Bahaullah as The Father of all Mankind, Who has come to lead all men and women of the earth into an ingathering and unification of the human race. This is wonderful materialnot only will it bring countless Christians to the point of accepting Bahaullah, but it also will, I am convinced, help countless Bahais to develop a new reverence for Christ, and a heightened sense of connectedness to their Christian brothers and sisters. Gary Matthews, author of He Cometh with Clouds. Where was this book when I was going through my tribulations of religious questioning? Thompson gently guides one along a path where dogmatic beliefs gradually expand into a new realm of appreciation and understanding. Dr. Bernard Nebel, author of Nebels Elementary Education.
