Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the most hilarious autobiographies that has come out in a long time, this story of Buckskin Joe will entertain readers of all ages. . . . [Glenn Shirley] has done an excellent job in arranging and editing Hoyt's war diary, penciled notes, and other materials into a readable book. It makes a bully story."—Wayne Gard, Southwest Review In his lifetime Edward Jonathan Hoyt, better known as Buckskin Joe, staged more excitement than Buffalo Bill, Fairbanks and Flynn, Karl Wallenda, and Batman put together. Born in Canada in 1840, he fought in the Civil War, homesteaded in southern Kansas, chased outlaws as a U.S. marshal in the Cherokee Outlet, prospected for gold from Nova Scotia to Central America, and served as a troubleshooter for "Haw" Tabor, the Silver King of Leadville. But essentially he was an entertainer, specializing in fêtes of music and feats of strength and agility. The master of sixteen musical instruments, he played in frontier bands. An acrobat and aerialist, he toured in circuses, once walking a tightrope two thousand feet above the Royal Gorge. His last hurrah, before pursuing his fortune in the jungles of Honduras, was a tour in Pawnee Bill's Wild West show. Glenn Shirley, who edited Joe's journals, is the author of Law West of Fort Smith (also a Bison Book) and many other works on frontier and outlaw history.

Download or read book Rover P6 2000 2200 3500 written by James Taylor and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rover P6 was unquestionably one of the best saloon cars to come out of Britain in the 1960s and was winner of the first-ever European Car of the Year award. It combined a wealth of technical innovation with a distinctive appearance that incorporated exactly the right degree of Italianate sharp-suited appearance for its time. It was, and remains, a great car to drive, and all these qualities were combined with the space and practicality of a four-seat family saloon. Rover P6: 2000, 2200, 3500 - The Complete Story documents its evolution from the earliest ideas in the 1950s to the end of production in 1977. It describes all the models with specification tables and paint and trim options, including NADA and Federal cars and remembers the motorsport successes and failures. It records the manufacturing process at Solihull and CKD overseas and includes a useful chapter on buying and owning a Rover P6.
Download or read book A Fistful of Icons written by Sue Matheson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a century of reinvention and, frequently, reinterpretation, Western movies continue to contribute to the cultural understanding of the United States. And Western archetypes remain as important emblems of the American experience, relating a complex and coded narrative about heroism and morality, masculinity and femininity, westward expansion and technological progress, and assimilation and settlement. In this collection of new essays, 21 contributors from around the globe examine the "cowboy cool" iconography of film and television Westerns--from bounty hunters in buckskin jackets to denizens of seedy saloons and lonely deserts, from Cecil B. DeMille and John Ford to Steve McQueen and Budd Boetticher, Jr.
