Book Coming Out to the Streets

Download or read book Coming Out to the Streets written by Brandon Andrew Robinson and published by University of California Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth are disproportionately represented in the U.S. youth homelessness population. In Coming Out to the Streets, Brandon Andrew Robinson examines their lives. Based on interviews and ethnographic fieldwork in central Texas, Coming Out to the Streets looks into the LGBTQ youth's lives before they experience homelessness—within their families, schools, and other institutions—and later when they navigate the streets, deal with police, and access shelters and other services. Through this documentation, Brandon Andrew Robinson shows how poverty and racial inequality shape the ways that the LGBTQ youth negotiate their gender and sexuality before and while they are experiencing homelessness. To address LGBTQ youth homelessness, Robinson contends that solutions must move beyond blaming families for rejecting their child. In highlighting the voices of the LGBTQ youth, Robinson calls for queer and trans liberation through systemic change.

Book excerpt: Revised to incorporate the changes in opinions and attitudes since its first publication, the second edition of 'Places of the Soul' has brought Christopher Day's classic text into the 21st century. This new edition of the seminal text reminds us that true sustainable design does not simply mean energy efficient building. Sustainable buildings must provide for the 'soul'. For Christopher Day architecture is not just about a building's appearance, but how the building is experienced. 'Places of the Soul' presents buildings as environment, intrinsic to their surroundings, and offers design principles that will open the eyes of the architecture student and professional alike, presenting ideas quite different to the orthodoxy of modern architectural education. Christopher Day's experience as an architect, self-builder, professor and sculptor have all added to the development of his ideas that encompass issues of economic and social sustainability, commercial pressures and consensus design. This book presents these ideas and outlines universal principles that will be of interest and value to architects, builders, planners and developers alike.

No business has an infinite amount of money and making wise investments is what separates success from failure. Accounting and the preparation of financial statements allow business owners, managers and key stakeholders to make operational, financial and strategic decisions, by collating transactional data and presenting it in a format that is easy to understand and can be used as the basis for making educated business decisions. The most common financial statements are the Income Statement, the Balance Sheet and the Statement of Cash Flows. 'Non-reporting entities' don't need to prepare General Purpose Financial Reports, but must still meet legislative requirements to keep adequate books and records, meet their taxation obligations and to meet any other specific reporting requirements dictated by the organisation structure or activities." -- overview.
