Download or read book Piping and Pipelines Assessment Guide written by Keith Escoe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether it's called "fixed equipment (at ExxonMobil), "stationary equipment (at Shell), or "static equipment (in Europe), this type of equipment is the bread and butter of any process plant. Used in the petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, food processing industry, paper industry, and the manufacturing process industries, stationary equipment must be kept operational and reliable for companies to maintain production and for employees to be safe from accidents. This series, the most comprehensive of its kind, uses real-life examples and time-tested rules of thumb to guide the mechanical engineer through issues of reliability and fitness-for-service. This volume on piping and pipeline assessment is the only handbook that the mechanical or pipeline engineer needs to assess pipes and pipelines for reliability and fitness-for-service.* Provides essential insight to make informed decisions on when to run, alter, repair, monitor, or replace equipment* How to perform these type of assessments and calculations on pipelines is a 'hot' issue in the petrochemical industry at this time* There is very little information on the market right now for pipers and pipeliners with regard to pipe and pipeline fitness-for-service
Download or read book Flying Insects and Robots written by Dario Floreano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-23 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flying insects are intelligent micromachines capable of exquisite maneuvers in unpredictable environments. Understanding these systems advances our knowledge of flight control, sensor suites, and unsteady aerodynamics, which is of crucial interest to engineers developing intelligent flying robots or micro air vehicles (MAVs). The insights we gain when synthesizing bioinspired systems can in turn benefit the fields of neurophysiology, ethology and zoology by providing real-life tests of the proposed models. This book was written by biologists and engineers leading the research in this crossdisciplinary field. It examines all aspects of the mechanics, technology and intelligence of insects and insectoids. After introductory-level overviews of flight control in insects, dedicated chapters focus on the development of autonomous flying systems using biological principles to sense their surroundings and autonomously navigate. A significant part of the book is dedicated to the mechanics and control of flapping wings both in insects and artificial systems. Finally hybrid locomotion, energy harvesting and manufacturing of small flying robots are covered. A particular feature of the book is the depth on realization topics such as control engineering, electronics, mechanics, optics, robotics and manufacturing. This book will be of interest to academic and industrial researchers engaged with theory and engineering in the domains of aerial robotics, artificial intelligence, and entomology.

Download or read book Permeable Reactive Barrier written by Ravi Naidu and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remediation of ground water is complex and often challenging. The passive remediation technology, currently in vogue, is based on permeable reactive barriers (PRB) that allow water to pass through while the fence/barrier made of reactive materials remediates the contaminants. Although PRB has been in operation for over a decade there are limited published books available. This book covers in one single volume all the information needed to plan, design/model and apply a successful, cost-effective and sustainable PRB technology.

Download or read book MERS CoV written by Fang Li and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is an emerging zoonotic coronavirus. First identified in 2012, MERS-CoV has caused over 2460 infections and a fatality rate of about 35% in humans. Similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), MERS-CoV likely originated from bats; however, different from SARS-CoV, which potentially utilized palm civets as its intermediate hosts, MERS-CoV likely transmits to humans through dromedary camels. Animal models, such as humanized mice and nonhuman primates, have been developed for studying MERS-CoV infection. Currently, there are no vaccines and therapeutics approved for the prevention and treatment of MERS-CoV infection, although a number of them have been developed preclinically or tested clinically. This book covers one editorial and 16 articles (including seven review articles and nine original research papers) written by researchers working in the field of MERS-CoV. It describes the following three main aspects: (1) MERS-CoV epidemiology, transmission, and pathogenesis; (2) current progress on MERS-CoV animal models, vaccines, and therapeutics; and (3) challenges and future prospects for MERS-CoV research. Overall, this book will help researchers in the MERS-CoV field to further advance their work on the virus. It also has important implications for other coronaviruses as well as viruses outside the coronavirus family with pandemic potentials.
