Book Safe management of healthcare waste

Download or read book Safe management of healthcare waste written by Great Britain: Department of Health: Estates and Facilities Division and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-02-08 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication provides a framework of best practice guidance on the management of healthcare waste to help healthcare organisations and other producers meet legislative requirements. It replaces the Health Services Advisory Committee guidance document 'Safe disposal of clinical waste' (1999). The guidance has been revised and updated to take account of legislative changes governing waste management, storage, carriage, treatment and disposal, health and safety. Key recommendations include: adopting a new methodology for identifying and classifying infectious and medicinal waste called the 'unified approach'; a revised colour-coded best practice waste segregation and packaging system to promote standardisation across the UK; the use of European Waste Catalogue (EWC) codes for waste documentation; and an offensive/hygiene waste stream to describe non-infectious waste (human hygiene waste and sanitary protection waste such as nappies, incontinence pads etc.).

Book Saline Soil based Agriculture by Halotolerant Microorganisms

Download or read book Saline Soil based Agriculture by Halotolerant Microorganisms written by Manoj Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the role of salt in current agricultural approaches, including the low salt tolerance of agricultural crops and trees, impact of saline soils, and salt-resistant plants. Halophytes are extremely salt tolerant plants, which are able to grow and survive under salt at concentrations as high as 5 g/l by maintaining negative water potential. The salt-tolerant microbes inhabiting the rhizospheres of halophytes may contribute to their salt tolerance, and the rhizospheres of halophytic plants provide an ideal opportunity for isolating various groups of salt-tolerant microbes that could enhance the growth of different crops under salinity stress. The book offers an overview of salt-tolerant microbes' ability to increase plant tolerance to salt to facilitate plant growth, the potential of the halophytes’ rhizospheres as a reservoir of beneficial salt-tolerant microbes, their future application as bio-inoculants in agriculture and a valuable resource for an alternative way of improving crop tolerance to salinity and promoting saline soil-based agriculture. This special collection of reviews highlights some of the recent advances in applied aspects of plant (halophytes)-microbe interactions and their contribution towards eco-friendly approaches saline soil-based agriculture.

This document is part of a series of reference documents being developed for use at the country level. The series will include the following subject areas: * policy framework for health technology * medical device regulations * health technology assessment * health technology management * needs assessment of medical devices * medical device procurement * medical equipment donations * medical equipment inventory management * medical equipment maintenance * computerized maintenance management systems * medical device data * medical device nomenclature * medical devices by health-care setting * medical devices by clinical procedures * medical device innovation, research and development. These documents are intended for use by biomedical engineers, health managers, donors, nongovernmental organizations and academic institutions involved in health technology at the district, national, regional or global levels. Once established, the inventory serves as the foundation for moving forward within the HTM system and ensuring safe and effective medical equipment. The inventory may be used to develop budgets for capital purchases, maintenance and running costs; to build and support an effective clinical engineering department, by allowing for workshop planning, hiring and training of technical support staff, and establishing and maintaining service contracts; to support an effective medical equipment management program, such as planning preventive maintenance activities and tracking work orders; and to plan the stock of spare parts and consumables. The inventory may also be used to support equipment needs assessment within the health-care facility and to record the purchase, receipt, retirement and discarding of equipment. Facility risk analysis and mitigation, and emergency and disaster planning, are also supported by an inventory.
