Download or read book Broken for Good written by Rebecca Rene Jones and published by FaithWords. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A daughter's narrative about life with and without her father, whose death plunges her into deep grief but gradually becomes her most compelling reason to hope. Like so many Christian women, Rebecca, her mother, and her two sisters love a man who does not walk beside them in faith. As his cancer returns after a year of remission, they face his last days. As the women in his life struggle to savor their final times together and let go, he finally reaches out to God, and tells them so. Her father's death opens the landscape of heaven and hope to her. She beautifully renders those visions as well as the underbelly of sorrow as she is finally forced to wake up to the world, to new hungers, and to a far more dangerous faith. Here is a spiritual coming of age manifesto that will take its place alongside Voskamp and Lamott as uplifting writing on loss, grief, and growing up, quick.

Book excerpt: A deep exploration of the intersection of faith, creativity, and justice from acclaimed hip-hop artist and creative polymath Sho Baraka “Sho has the courage to say what many are thinking and the candor to say what many are not. His words have positively influenced me for years—now this book gives the world that influence.”—Lecrae You were created to help bring truth and beauty into this broken world. God made you with an imagination and a yearning for justice. No matter your calling or vocation, you can help shape a better world around you through your creativity. But that doesn’t mean it will be easy. We are surrounded by toxic stories and bad cultural thinking. We’re held back by incomplete theology. But does it have to be like that? Is frustration the end of the story? In the face of confusion and injustice, we can lose sight of our true narrative—the one that started in a garden and wants to make our real lives better today. In He Saw That It Was Good, activist and recording artist Sho Baraka wrestles deeply and honestly with these questions, gives you permission to do the same, and shows a hard-earned path to creative change. With Sho, you’ll engage with art, justice, and history. Learn from the powerful principles of historic movements, explore why it’s important to cultivate your creative calling (no matter what you do!), and discover a fresh look at how the gospel can transform how you see God, your neighbor, your work, and your world. You’ll return to your biggest and truest story. Your life (and your world) need never be the same.

Book excerpt: This is the part of the book where I'm supposed to convince you that reading this book is worthwhile. I wish I didn't have to. I wish I never had to write it. But brokenness exists. I go through most days feeling broken and having thoughts of suicide. So, here's my book to you. I didn't write it to make a lot of money, but out of a need to survive, and to hopefully help others who read it. It is born out of my story of living with a mental illness. I write about things in this book that made life easier, and at times, probably kept me alive. You shouldn't have to wait to tell your story until you have things all figured out-I'm not even close, but I'm sharing mine. I pray what I've learned encourages you to share your experiences with someone too. Here are some things I'd like you to think about as you consider reading this book. Do you:Feel like you have to pretend you're not broken, and pray that your struggle doesn't get passed on to your kids?Feel overwhelmed with inadequate boundaries and need help knowing where to draw the line with people?Get those check-in sheets every time you go to your therapist and can't make sense out of the scale they're using? Feel lost between faith and sanity, success and failure, hope and helplessness? If you feel broken, I wrote this for you.

Download or read book Broken written by Daniel Clay and published by Emblem Editions. This book was released on 2009-08-04 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An edgy, affecting, and darkly funny debut novel — narrated by Skunk, an eleven-year-old girl in a coma — that explores innocence and its betrayal as powerfully and unforgettably as do Lullabies for Little Criminals and The Lovely Bones Skunk Cunningham’s world is a small one, populated by her family; her teachers and schoolmates; and her neighbours, the quiet Buckley family and the five terrifying Oswald girls and their thug of a father, Bob. When Saskia Oswald, with her stilettos and tight pants, asks shy Rick Buckley for a ride in his new car, he can’t believe his luck. But after a quick fumble, Saskia broadcasts Rick’s deficiencies to anyone who will listen, including her younger sisters. This act of thoughtless cruelty will see Rick dragged off by the police, humiliated, and “broken,” — and, in a tragic chain of events, will leave Skunk hanging on to her young life by a thread. From her hospital bed, Skunk shows us her hapless father finding love, and her idealistic favourite teacher losing it; “Broken” Buckley spiralling into madness; and the Oswald clan coming apart at the seams. As we inch ever closer to the mystery behind her coma, Skunk’s innocence becomes a beacon by which we navigate a world as comic as it is tragic, and as engaging as it is finally uplifting. Broken introduces Daniel Clay as a brilliant and utterly original voice in international fiction.

Download or read book Swahili for the Broken hearted written by Peter Moore and published by Random House. This book was released on 2003 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Question: What do you do when you're dumped by the Girl Next Door? Answer: Throw yourself into another madcap adventure and travel from Cape Town to Cairo... A week after breaking up with the GND (his travelling companion through Central America) Peter Moore heads off to Africa to lose himself for a while. In the grand tradition of 19th-century scoundrelas, explorers and romantics, Africa strikes him as the ideal place to find solitude and anonymity in the face of a personal crisis. What follows is Peter's journey from one end of the Dark Continent to the other. Travelling the fabled Cape Town to Cairo route by any means of transport he can blag (or if he must, pay) his way onto, it's an epic trek that sees our intrepid Antipodean experience everything from the southernmost city in Africa to the Pyramids, vast game parks and thundering falls, cosmopolitan cities and tiny villages as he journeys through the very heart of Africa. And travelling on his own, it's inevitable that Peter falls in with a motley cast of characters and has a myriad misadventures: including coming face to face with a wild Hyena with very bad breath, crossing the treacherous Sani Pass, the highest in Africa, narrowly escaping a riot by hiding in a coffin shop, saving oil-covered Penguins in South Africa, acting as an extra in a WW2 epic, not to mention dodging 20,000 single woman trying to catch the eye of the king of Swaziland during the annual Reed Dance. And then there was the time when he was kicked out of Robert Mugabe's birthday bash at gunpoint...
Download or read book The Beauty of Broken written by Elisa Morgan and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find beauty and hope by facing and dealing with the messiness of family life. The family is an imperfect institution. Broken people become broken parents who make broken families. But actually, broken is normal and exactly where God wants us. In The Beauty of Broken, Elisa Morgan, one of today’s most respected female Christian leaders, for the first time shares her very personal story of brokenness—from her first family of origin to the second, represented by her husband and two grown children. Over the years, Elisa’s family struggled privately with issues many parents must face, including: alcoholism and drug addiction infertility and adoption teen pregnancy and abortion divorce, homosexuality, and death Each story layers onto the next to reveal the brokenness that comes into our lives without invitation. “We’ve bought into the myth of the perfect family,” says Elisa. “Formulaic promises about the family may have originated in well-meaning intentions, but such thinking isn’t realistic. It’s not helpful. It’s not even kind.” Instead she offers hope in the form of “broken family values” that allow parents to grow and thrive with God. Values such as commitment, humility, relinquishment, and respect carry us to new places of understanding. Owning our brokenness shapes us into God’s best idea for us and enables us to discover the beauty in ourselves and each member of our family.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I knew he would ruin me from the moment we met. Everything about the man screamed confidence. Sensuality. Intelligence. Worldliness. But it was how he saved me that ruined me most. Through him, I learned to end my path of self-destruction. I no longer needed to numb the pain with mindless one-night-stands and drunken blackouts. He made me feel worthy. Treasured. Optimistic about my future. Here I stand four years later, in a coffee shop a world away, still broken...but beautifully so. My scars no longer hold me back. Instead, they give me strength and enrich my appreciation for the good things in life. I have hopes and dreams...faith that anything is possible. I am no longer the lost little girl fighting for survival. I have direction. I have courage. I am not without possibility. I'll always have Gavin to thank for that-Mr. Cooper, I remind myself. That's who he is to me now: just a former teacher. I know what you're thinking, but don't worry. I was eighteen when we first met. Legally, we did nothing wrong. Morally? Well, I guess that depends on how flexible your morals are. My name is Kat and this is my story.

National Abuse Hotline 800-799-SAFEI find myself in a dark alley with the dickhead that tried hitting on me in a bar, beating the ever loving shit out of me. Why you ask? Well, when he grabbed me inappropriately and without my permission I kind of lost it and may or may not have but definitely did, emasculate him in front of all his friends in the bar, and everyone else. Thinking that was end of it I moved on, clearly, he didn't as my current situation proves. From there a tattooed man scares him off and gets me to help. Little do I know him and his friends are going to become a permanent part of my life, helping me heal both mentally and physically. Kyle, Flynn, Owen, Silas, and Heath all stand next to me helping with my issues and keeping me safe as I work through things from my past that pop up from this recent attack. When it turns out I have a stalker, they guys draw closer to me as we all try to navigate my crazy life. In getting to know them and spending time with them, I've come to realize I like them, all five of them. Does that make me selfish? Yep. Can we all make this work? I guess we'll see... This book contains some cliffhangers, not all plots get resolved in this book. It is reverse harem where the heroine ends ups with at least three of the guys.
