Book Expanding Your Biblical Horizons

Download or read book Expanding Your Biblical Horizons written by Gregory Sephus and published by . This book was released on 2012-07-05 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Expanding Your Biblical Horizons" is adapted from Dr. Samuel J. Schultz's book entitled "Broadening Your Biblical Horizons" (Old Testament Survey). I have adapted this new title to amplify the former edition "Ministry of Hermeneutics" (June 1, 2011). Further research and clarity was prompted by Bible critics, doubtful skeptics, and of some nonreligious persons. Those who have read the former edition will certainly enjoy this newly revised edition, because it contains many new paragraphs and illustrations not found in the other edition. This book is written in a dictionary, glossary, concordance, apologetic style; with clarifying definitions, explanations, word studies, and biblical response; to bridge the gap between past and present tense. It is not designed to prove hermetic strength of religious expertise or imagination; nor to abuse, distort, or overemphasize what is already stated, but to eradicate unawareness (John 8:32), encourage the well-informed to re-visit (Proverbs 25:2), culminating Christian unity (I Corinthians 1:10-13). The subject matter of this revision is Hermeneutic Theology (God interpretation). Hermeneutic Theology denotes God's logical science of certified facts stated to man systematically. The objective is to thwart all notion of independent thoughts that cause wavering trust in God (I Peter 4:11), and to prove that all theology apart from Hermeneutic Theology is not factual or necessary (Romans 3:4). The doctrinal presentations of this book are completely impartial, and hard to argue. One need not be a Christian to search the Scriptures (II Corinthians 11:14-15; James 2:19), but to have eternal life, you must come to Jesus (John 5:39-40). Some might ask "What importance Hermeneutic Theology has to do with salvation?" Let me say right here that a person's theology governs his/her behavior. The behavior of a person supports his/her theology. Change is the inevitable result accomplished by the behavior of a person. And the two are subjective to theology. The word "theology" is common. But, "hermeneutics" is a word that many have never heard before. Such is the need to expand your biblical horizons.Paul wrote: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2). Also, in the words of Paul: "My conscience is clear, but that doesn't prove I'm right. It is the Lord himself who will examine me and decide. So don't make judgments about anyone ahead of time, before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due" (I Corinthians 4:4-5; NLT).

Book On the Road and Off the Record with Leonard Bernstein

Download or read book On the Road and Off the Record with Leonard Bernstein written by Charlie Harmon and published by Charlesbridge Publishing. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating Leonard Bernstein's centenary with an intimate and detailed look at the public and private life of the Maestro written by his former assistant. Foreword by Broadway legend Harold Prince. "An affectionate portrait of an eminent musician who was driven by demons." —Kirkus Reviews "Harmon’s personable and warm account of what it was like to work for one of the twentieth century’s musical giants casts new light on Bernstein and his world." —Booklist "This multifaceted perspective gives readers plenty of salacious gossip paired with insight into Leonard Bernstein’s remarkable artistic achievements later in life." —Library Journal On the Road is a colorfully written, unforgettably entertaining and unputdownable book, and is available just in time for LB’s 100th birthday. Unreservedly recommended. —Fanfare Magazine Leonard Bernstein reeked of cheap cologne and obviously hadn't showered, shaved, or slept in a while. Was he drunk to boot? He greeted his new assistant with "What are you drinking?" Yes, he was drunk. Charlie Harmon was hired to manage the day-to-day parts of Bernstein's life. There was one additional responsibility: make sure Bernstein met the deadline for an opera commission. But things kept getting in the way: the centenary of Igor Stravinsky, intestinal parasites picked up in Mexico, teaching all summer in Los Angeles, a baker's dozen of young men, plus depression, exhaustion, insomnia, and cut-throat games of anagrams. Did the opera get written? For four years, Charlie saw Bernstein every day, as his social director, gatekeeper, valet, music copyist, and itinerant orchestra librarian. He packed (and unpacked) Bernstein's umpteen pieces of luggage, got the Maestro to his concerts, kept him occupied changing planes in Zurich, Anchorage, Tokyo, or Madrid, and learned how to make small talk with mayors, ambassadors, a chancellor, a queen, and a Hollywood legend or two. How could anyone absorb all those people and places? Because there was music: late-night piano duets, or the Maestro's command to accompany an audition, or, by the way, the greatest orchestras in the world. Charlie did it, and this is what it was like, told for the first time.

Book Justification Volume 1

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Horton
  • Publisher : Zondervan Academic
  • Release : 2018-11-27
  • ISBN : 0310491622
  • Pages : 400 pages

Download or read book Justification Volume 1 written by Michael Horton and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of a two-volume project delving into the doctrine of justification. Michael Horton seeks not simply to recover a clear message of its role in modern Reformed theology, but also to bring a fresh discovery of the gospel in a time when contemporary debates around justification have reignited. The doctrine of justification stands at the center of our systematic reflection on the meaning of salvation and grace as well as our piety, mission, and life together. And yet, within mainline Protestant and evangelical theology, it's often taken for granted or left to gather dust in favor of modern concerns and self-renewal. Volume 1 is an exercise in historical theology, exploring the doctrine of justification from the patristic era to the Reformation. This book: Provides a map for contemporary discussions of justification, identifying and engaging principal sources: Origen, Chrysostom, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, John Duns Scotus, William of Ockham, Gabriel Biel, and the magisterial reformers. Studies the transformations of the doctrine through Aquinas, Scotus and the nominalists leading up to the era of the Reformation and the Council of Trent. Concludes by examining the hermeneutical and theological significance of the Reformers' understanding of the law and the gospel and the resultant covenantal scheme that became formative in Reformed theology. Engaging and thorough, Justification will not only reenergize the reader—whether Protestant or Catholic—with a passion for understanding this essential and long-running doctrinal conversation, but also challenge anyone to engage critically with the history of the Church and the heart of the gospel.
