This book provides the first comprehensive study of the impact of Soviet policy on the Caucasus, focusing in particular on the period from 1917 to 1955. Book Ottoman Refugees 1878 1939

Download or read book Ottoman Refugees 1878 1939 written by Isa Blumi and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first half of the 20th century, throughout the Balkans and Middle East, a familiar story of destroyed communities forced to flee war or economic crisis unfolded. Often, these refugees of the Ottoman Empire - Christians, Muslims and Jews - found their way to new continents, forming an Ottoman diaspora that had a remarkable ability to reconstitute, and even expand, the ethnic, religious, and ideological diversity of their homelands. Ottoman Refugees, 1878-1939 offers a unique study of a transitional period in world history experienced through these refugees living in the Middle East, the Americas, South-East Asia, East Africa and Europe. Isa Blumi explores the tensions emerging between those trying to preserve a world almost entirely destroyed by both the nation-state and global capitalism and the agents of the so-called Modern era.

Book Britain and the Armenian Question

Download or read book Britain and the Armenian Question written by Akaby Nassibian and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1984 Britain and the Armenian Question examines the direction, changes, and ramifications of British policy towards Armenia during 1915 to 1923. The author has made extensive use of parliamentary papers and those of the Cabinet, Foreign Office, War Office and India office as well as documents produced by pro- Armenian groups during the period. This material is used to build up a detailed and incontrovertible study of British policy, which shows the extent to which it was governed by self-interest even when support for Armenia was its most altruistic. Once Britain secured predominance in the Persian Gulf, she lost all her interest in Armenian territory and the dilemma was posed when the war ended: not only did she no longer need Armenia but also had to decide who to support in Russia. Armenia lost out on all sides and was compelled eventually to adapt herself to the policies of the surrounding countries. This is an interesting read for scholars and researchers of international relations and international political history.

Book Anglo Soviet Relations 1917 1921 Volume 3

Download or read book Anglo Soviet Relations 1917 1921 Volume 3 written by James Ramsey Ullman and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-12 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 1920 the civil war that had ravaged Russia in the wake of the Bolshevik seizure of power was all but over, and with it the attempt of foreign governments to intervene on behlf of the anti-Communist forces. The government most deeply involved in this intervention was that of Great Britain. Yet scarcely a year later Britain was the first major power to come to terms with the new leadership in Moscow. Richard H. Ullman's account of that cautious coming to terms offers a perspective on the processes by which British foreign policy adjusted to the drastically changed circumstances of the aftermath of World War I. Another important theme is the way in which British policy, and the conceptions of peace and security that underlay it, diverged from that of Britain's closest ally, France. The book is, as well, a contribution of the growing literature on bureaucractic politics and the politics of foreign-policy making, and is a protracted essay on the statecraft and political style of David Lloyd George. It draws on many new sources, among them the interecepted and deciphered telegrams of the Soviet mission in London. Richard H. Ullman is Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University. The Anglo-Soviet Accord is the third and final volume of his Anglo-Soviet Relations, 1917-1921. Originally published in 1973.
