Book Solution Thermodynamics and Its Application to Aqueous Solutions

Download or read book Solution Thermodynamics and Its Application to Aqueous Solutions written by Yoshikata Koga and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-03-28 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solution Thermodynamics and its Application to Aqueous Solutions: A Differential Approach, Second Edition introduces a differential approach to solution thermodynamics, applying it to the study of aqueous solutions. This valuable approach reveals the molecular processes in solutions in greater depth than that gained by spectroscopic and other methods. The book clarifies what a hydrophobe, or a hydrophile, and in turn, an amphiphile, does to H2O. By applying the same methodology to ions that have been ranked by the Hofmeister series, the author shows that the kosmotropes are either hydrophobes or hydration centers, and that chaotropes are hydrophiles. This unique approach and important updates make the new edition a must-have reference for those active in solution chemistry. - Unique differential approach to solution thermodynamics allows for experimental evaluation of the intermolecular interaction - Incorporates research findings from over 40 articles published since the previous edition - Numerical or graphical evaluation and direct experimental determination of third derivatives, enthalpic and volumetric AL-AL interactions and amphiphiles are new to this edition - Features new chapters on spectroscopic study in aqueous solutions as well as environmentally friendly and hostile water aqueous solutions

Book The Thz Dynamics Of Liquids Probed By Inelastic X ray Scattering

Download or read book The Thz Dynamics Of Liquids Probed By Inelastic X ray Scattering written by Alessandro Cunsolo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-07-08 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its development toward the end of the past millennium, high-resolution Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (IXS) has substantially improved our knowledge of the collective dynamics of liquids at mesoscopic scales, that is, over distances and time-lapses approaching those typical of first neighboring atoms' interactions. However, despite the undoubted scientific relevance and the rapid evolution toward maturity, comprehensive monographs on this technique are not available. The primary purpose of this book is to partially fill this lack while providing a helpful reference for both mature scientists and less experienced researchers in the field. After a general introduction to the fundamental aspects of scattering measurements, the IXS cross-section is analytically derived, and the complementarity with Inelastic Neutron Scattering is discussed in detail. The remainder of the book reviews representative IXS studies on simple fluids focusing on topics as relevant as the dynamic crossover from the hydrodynamic to the kinetic regime, the onset of relaxation phenomena and related high-frequency viscoelasticity, the gradual emergence of quantum effects, the evidence of dynamic boundaries partitioning the supercritical domain, the prevalence of solid-like aspects in the high-frequency dynamics of fluids, and the dynamic fingerprints of the polymorphic nature of liquid aggregates.

Download or read book Hydrogen Bonded Liquids written by J.C. Dore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of liquids covers a wide range of scientific disciplines, primarily in physics and chemistry. As a result of this disparate activity the links between new developments in remote fields are seldom co-ordinated into a single conference. The objective of the present meeting was to gather together people with different forms of expertise. Previous ASI meetings on the liquid state have been held over an extended period and have occurred on a three-yearly basis. The first meeting in this series was on 'Structure and Dynamics of Liquids' in 1980 and was held on the island of Corsica. The next meeting on 'Molecular liquids: Dynamics and Interactions' was held in Florence in 1983 and was followed by 'Aqueous Solutions' at the Institut d'Etudes Scientifiques de Cargese in 1986. It therefore seemed a natural choice to select Cargese for the next meeting in 1989 and to choose a topic which emphasised a particular area of liquid state studies. Due to our own involvement in collaborative research we considered that 'Hydrogen-bonded liquids' would be an appropriate topic. One of its attractions, was that there was much new material coming from widely disparate investigations and it would be a convenient time to draw together the different strands. The particular interest in water was clearly central to this topic but it was thought desirable to set this development in the wider context of other systems in which hydrogen-bonding plays a significant role.

Book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity

Download or read book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a joint effort of the Research Materials Information Center (RMIC) of the Solid State Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Libraries and Information Systems Center at Bell Telephone Laboratories (BTL) Murray Hill, N. J. The Research Materials Information Center has, since 1963, been answering inquiries on the avail ability, preparation, and properties of inorganic solid-state research materials. The preparation of bibliographies has been essential to this function, and the interest in ferroelectrics led to the compila tion of the journal and report literature on that subject. The 1962 book Ferroelectric Crystals, by Jona and Shirane, was taken as a cutoff point, and all papers through mid-1969 received by the Center have been included. The Libraries and Information Systems Center of BTL has, over a period of years, developed a proprie tary package of computer programs called BELDEX, which formats and generates indexes to biblio graphic material. This group therefore undertook to process RMIC's ferroelectric references by BELDEX so that both laboratories could have the benefit of an indexed basic bibliography in this important research area.
